I dont know whats going on here. Im just browsing the net no video streaming at all.

That bump about 8pm tonight must be a routing issue to thinkbroadband as I've got it as well... Thought it might be a local downloader at first but it's showing on three graphs upto now

craw-cmts-06? That's Crawley.

The problem is only really screwing with NCUK traffic, by the looks of things. I can't think of anything particularly important hosted by NCUK anyway, so most things should still be working normally.

Nah, the very bottom one (looks like a consumer line not a router, is labelled 'VM').

Either way its pretty bad.

That was my old VM line in Edinburgh EH9. That snapshot was in fact the best it's ever been.

yep same 8pm spike.
(The smoothness of the line at 3am to 10am was because I swapped back to VM DNS again, 10 am spike is the PS+ auto boot of the PS3.)

check the ip matches on thinkbroadband. google MY IP, it will appear uptop. also lookup where on the map on a site via google result has your IP address. then finally check your modem shows the same IP.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

More of a routing problem to TBB i believe...

I ran a comprehensive ping test while the graph was "in error" and my average latency and jitter was pretty much stable and where it should have been, contradicting what was being shown by TBB.

Jayster 21-06-2012 14:24

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

It was a routing error as pretty much confirmed by qas.

Anyway I have another slight oddity:
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/06/17.png
From 11-8 I was downloading at full speed constantly so I dont understand how between half 1-4 and 6-8 I had lower min avg and max latency.

qasdfdsaq 21-06-2012 14:28

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

There's a few explanations, including from the way DOCSIS3 handles upstream data.

boroboi 21-06-2012 14:46

It might also be less buffering, resulting in data being allowed to pass faster.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

I wish i could say my R36 upgrade was better than the VMNG300, but up to now it isnt :(

Seems a lot more testy during peak hours than my VMNG300. Off peak, i can't fault it, latency seems a lot more stable and doesn't jump hardly, but soon as it starts getting busy it's all over the place, where as that wasn't the case with the VMNG300... seems to go from one extreme to the other.

I'll give it a few more days but im not seeing the sort of improvements i've seen with others. Ironically, i'm seeing "better" results in combo mode as opposed to modem mode, which is surprising too! I will post graphs at a later date as i only upgraded yesterday.

after months of complaining and money of my bills looks like virgin media started to try and fix my problem, super went down last night and when it came back on all my SFID numbers had changed my Chanels id,s had all changed and now i have 6 downstream channels instead of four, look at my chart you can clearly see the improvement , my jitters are now always under 5 ,4 ,3 ,2, i wonder if they are going to add 2 more downstream channels again too make it 8 in total. i wonder how long this will last

also my Downstream Channels power level is way to high at 58.0 dBmV, virgin media are replacing my rg cable on the road for a new better rg cable that will fix my power levels and improve 100mb stability

please tell me your thought and advice on the new rg cable thank you

Massive outage last night and my minimum ping has increased, it seems I'm now being routed Staverton -> Birmingham -> Manchester -> Brentford -> TBB. Same for f8lure, reverse trace has 3 of the usual hops missing.

One would hope this is just some temporary rerouting while they upgrade the Aztec West -> Staverton link, but its probably more likely to be permanent knowing VM.

I also see a few different forward and reverse paths - e.g. traffic going Swansea => Birmingham => London and returning London => Manchester => Birmingham => Swansea

You know, I think Virgin have done some major work in my area. This is with a Superhub on wireless, look at the jitter on RC30 firmware!

Yet IE9 give me consistantly this

Not a lot of difference apart from the jitter which is consistantly higher on FF13

FF 13.0.1 Kymmy. It's the only browser I use.

I use FF13 all the time too, but thought I'd try IE9 the other day (32 and 64 bit) and they consistently gave me better pings. It wouldn't really bother web browsing but it does go to show how which software you use can change things

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

I'll give IE 64bit a try later Kymmy. I don't have 32bit installed. Worth a comparison.

This is using IE9 64bit. Had to download Java first!

VMDG480 - Router Mode R36

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2012/06/4.png

R36 still performing ok in router mode. Ping is remaining stable fluctuating from 24 to 26, except for the typical spike up to 40

R30 here with the Superhub in router mode, so things seem to be looking up for VM, i really want to know what they have done though.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

I wonder if they have just finished upgrading part of the core network or something? Can't think of many other things that would cause a wholesale improvement for people all over the country (bar R36 which isn't rolled out yet).

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

It's nothing to do with the core network. The core network isn't really a problem in most places.
