I had the letter come through the post yesterday and I don't subscribe to Sky Sports. I can confirm it does say what the OP stated about the red button with an asterisk which states "coming to Tivo boxes soon". I'll try to upload a picture if I can find it.

---------- Post added at 10:42 ---------- Previous post was at 09:58 ----------

Found it! (It was in the bin, so sorry about the stains).

There was an accompanying letter too. So as you can see from the pictures, the leaflet is targetted towards those not currently subscribing to Sky Sports and you shouldn't be surprised that you haven't received one yet.

Nice one nn012 thanks for the trouble you went to...appreciated.

So this letter is going out to VM customers comfirming Football First but VM Customer care on Twitter et al can't confirm if we're getting Football First.. this is EXACTLY why some of us get SO frustrated with VM!!!!

They are a great company, in time i believe will be way ahead of the field when it comes to TV but their PR is a joke!

denphone 06-08-2011 12:21

Re: sky sports red button

Communication is their biggest weakness by far but they do have many great strengths as well.

richard1960 06-08-2011 12:35

Re: sky sports red button

I also got the leaflet after i gave up taking sky sports its obviously targetted at those that do not take the sky sports package,i got well cheesed off after Red Button cricket appeared on sky a couple of months ago,but was not made available to VMs sky sports subscribers,i now stream all my cricket for free off the web,and even get the sky sports commentary.LOL:D:D

However if Red Button ever does get sorted out i may be willing to shell out £22.50 a month again,if not its their loss not mine.;)

VMs communication is worse then dire in my view.:(

Do you guys think it will work for La Liga games too at the end of the season when they sometimes put Real Madrid or Barcelona on red button?

I just ordered a standard Virgin Media box so I can get red button for the football season (I have Tivo right now) and they said on the phone it would be free as I'm on the XL package. I'm having it installed on the same TV as I don't have 2 TV's.

I wondered if this will normally enter me into a new contract or is adding a box not part of the contract service?

Please help as I might have to cancel as I move out in July.

It will normally tie you in to a new 12 month contract? But you should be able to move the services to the new property (if cabled)

Thanks.

Well even if I don't I will only have to pay a few months cancellation fee right?

But I'm having the V HD box installed on the same TV as my Tivo box, would there be a problem with that? or will the engineer be ok with it?

It will be good because when I move into a bigger house (I live in a bed-sit right now) I can put it in my bedroom or kitchen the other box (provided I move into a cable area which I've had problems with in the past)

So long as your TV has two HDMI sockets you'll be fine , assuming you want HD on both boxes, if not you could connect one via start.

Only 1 HD socket but it's possible to disconnect 1 when I'm not using it.

Or plug an adaptor in what gives you more than one HDMI.

Something like this http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tv...-hdmi-2x1.html

There's probably cheaper that's just first I found.

The guy on the phone was helpful and gave me free installation. BTW he said they defiantly got the red button for the football season, they got told it.

I went through to retention's which probably helped (not the foreign-based call centers)

Just be aware that you'll have to cover the IR receiver on the box you're not watching as they both respond to most of the same remote codes.

Re: sky sports red button

Found this on the VM help and support forums, TiVo subscribers look away now,

Quote:

I just got off the phone to a really helpful Customer Relations team member Rebecca in Sheffield.

She has had it confirmed from her manager (Andy Hufton) that there will definitely be this red button function for the first game of the Premier League. Absolutely no doubt.

http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/andy-hufton/25/399/503

There is a chance that the service will be live earlier but I got the impression it may well be a test/beta.

Also Tivo access is still under development - which I would imagine means it will be a long time before Tivo boxes can use the red button.

If these functions do not work on the first day, I know there will be a lot of **bleep** off people. I guess the Advertising Standards Authority would be the first people to contact!

http://www.asa.org.uk/.
Only time will tell if this is correct or not.

ok lads & lasses, if you access guide on your remote, then press 9, help & info then press 2, virgin tv, then press 2 again, red button & interactive services, then press 4, it will explain that the red button service is now available.

None of it, Spider it's not as we were also told on a Sky internet page that compared the two platforms that it would be "LIMITED" on Virgin so we had no idea exactly what we would get... I hope that's clear!

Great news, hope i get the letter soon!

Has anyone noticed that the red button comparison no longer appears on Sky's 'Sky vs Virgin' page, but it does still appear on their 'Sky vs BT' page. I would like to think that this means that we will get the full service (at least until Sky find another way of delivering exclusive stuff to their own customers). Perhaps it's time to get Sky Sports back if we are finally getting what we are paying for!
On a separate note, does anyone know if it is possible to set V+ to record red button stuff?
