Rafa Benitez is largely responsible for revamping the youth system at the Kirkby academy and bringing in quality coaches like Rodolfo Borrell and Pep Segura who have made significant progress in developing some of the young, local lads into contenders for first team action in the premiership. He even brought back to the club a certain Mr Kenneth Dalglish.

When the likes of Flanagan, Robinson, Kelly to name but a few talented lads on the books are knocking on the England senior squad door I hope that the individuals who saw Rafa as an easy target during the ill fated reign of Gilette and Hicks consider a change of career (people like Henry Winter, the odious glob of waste Danny Kelly and everyone else who works within the News Intl sphere of evil)

I think that Tottenham are starting to crack (nothing unusual) clubs like WBA should be minemeat for the quality players that Spurs have.

It will be Europe next season, but not champions league, we just are not good enough, this season.

That may sound harsh, but its the truth, We MUST get quality players in, Woodgate, King and Defoe must go.

From the neutral's perspective Arsenal are very pleasing on the eye but I'm kind of surprised they were still in contention for so long. They don't have that ability to dig deep when things are going against them.

Personally I think they're only a couple of players short of being an outstanding team but those players have to be leaders on the park. They need a captain that can get them to focus when the going is getting tough.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

There were two problems yesterday with the Old Firm game, One the referee was really under the pressure.

The Penalty was that soft, it was unreal and the player deserves an Oscar as dive of the season and the referee gave it, and then at the end of the game Lennon, after all the trouble over the last couple of weeks was walking off with hands on his ears, how stupid.

The SFA have to crack down hard on this, there are so many problems in this game, that both clubs need there heads banging together.

There were 1.000 extra coppers there yesterday in case of aggro - Scottish football Grow up.

Are they? I personnally find them very boring and predictable. I'd much rather watch a direct team who actually shoot from further out than 3 yards.

No club should be held responsible for the actions of a minority of their fans. Man United have sung about Hillsborough for example. Liverpool fans about Munich. It doesn't represent the fan base as a whole.

The club should be held responsible for banning the fans that sing these songs, which doesn't seem to happen. It doesn't represent the fan base as a whole but tonight it represented the vast majority of the city fans at the game.

You don't need to remind me United and Liverpool fans sing similar songs, i think its disgusting no matter which clubs 'fans' sing them.

I always find it funny when so many people, supposed professionals and experts included, start raving about a player when they play against an English team and/or in a big match, as though they're some unknown talent who've suddenly popped up from nowhere or their performance is some rare incredible feat for the special occasion.

Manuel Neuer is good. Wow. Ya think? Apparently there's this little Argentine guy doing well in Spain too. I think he's scored 50 goals this season!

Doesn't mean he didn't play well. Messi is a very good player when he doesn't score goals, still one of the best in the world, he is more effective at supporting players like Villa and Ronaldo would be for example.

Makes me luagh that Sir Alex is complaining that Tv broadcastors have so much power in football, that they don't have a winter break.

Dont clubs have breaks for internationals and there players are treated with upmost care and shouldn't need a break for winter, as most clubs these days have brilliant playing services.

If he goes back many years, clubs played in some terrible conditions and didn't whinge once. Scottish can complain as there winters normally last longer than ours and suffer more than us. Just think Sir Alex, l would have to work 18 months to get the wages that ONE player earns a WEEK.

That linesman in the Chelsea v Spurs game and the referee need bloodty glasses, the Cheslea goal WAS NOT OVER THE LINE.

The rules in football states ' the ball must be CLEARLY over the line'

---------- Post added at 19:32 ---------- Previous post was at 18:21 ----------

The Kalou goal was offside. When he got the ball, he was in an offisde position when he scored.

This is typical of Chelsea, they win games on 'official cock ups' We have to have extra officals at these games, sadly this happens at big games ie Man Utd, Chelsea where officials are 'pressured' by the players top give decisions.

Spurs season is over, we have now no chance of qualifyiing for Europe, we have lost out as we are not good enough.

We have got players that are simply not playing to form, Its Ok for Harry saying that we have got things going against us, but if we don't put the chances away, we simply won't climb that ladder.

I can see a big massive clearout by Spurs in the summer, but Levy won't pay the money to get the goods, and IF we are not in Europe, then we won't get the big players out there, I can see Bale and Modric going, despite them being on long term contract. Levy won't turn down bids of £40 million for Bale.

yes we were rubbish but with Nani and Park out there we were two players down in midfield and the others didn't do a lot either.

Once again we can't play away from home and we've never found out why all season.

I've said on other forums at home you can carry a few players not performing but not away. Maybe that is the problem

Our away form in the Champions League has been quite good. A five goal or more scoreline isn't the only indicator of a good performance. :erm:

Anyway, today we were dire.

That got me thinking and looking at the first season of the Premiership is quite interesting,

Not one overseas manager, unless you count Joe Kinnear, the same for all team captains, only one manager sacked and that was at the end of the season.

I don't know about Forest but I think that Oldham Athletic's chances of a return are somewhat remote.:(

I'd prefer to see a Welsh club (Swansea, obviously) in the Premiership if only to annoy the "this is England" types.

There's a 50% chance of it happening although there's a clause in the building contract of the Liberty Stadium that says Swansea must stuff up any good chance of promotion by either a) playing really well but failing to score or b) playing ok against decent opposition yet awful against poor teams.

I've seen lots about this on FB - what did he do?

I've been reading up about him recently and his time spent at LFC was not quite as rosy as some people think. He was not a team player and didn't even participate in out of school golf etc so good riddance, the team has come on leaps and bounds since he and the other one left ;)

My thoughts exactly, whilst Messi and to a lesser extent Tevez symbolise all that is good about Argentine football, Mascherano is a throw back to the past, Rattin would have been proud of him.

Take that challenge near the end, it was a 50/50 ball and he actually kicked the foot of the Madrid player with his toe yet writhed about on the floor holding his leg six inches above his ankle.

He was rolling around after every challenege made on him, then making a miraculous recovery in time to get up and shout at the ref telling him to book the Madrid player. It was just down right cheating most of the time, especially the challenge towards the end involving Diarra, where there was nothing else on his mind other than trying to get him sent off.

Its strange because i don't remember him doing anything similar whilst at Liverpool, it seems to be something hes picked up at Barca. I always thought he was supposed to be a 'hard-man' type player, obviously not.

Ermm. Sherer may have scored more goals, but I would hardly class him as a graceful player. Bergkamp may not have scored that many, but he never seemed to score a crap goal. Just works of art ranging from from quite special to absolutely jaw-dropping...

Point taken. It's telling though, that a video of Shearer's highlights includes misses and him taking his shirt off and walking into the tunnel. (I lost interest after that).

As if "raising" Shearer for Bergkamp isn't questionable anyway, you're doing so in the context of gracefulness of all things?

If i suggest Zidane as the most graceful, are you going to raise me Peter Beardsley?

This is easily one of my favourite goals of all time, it still gives me goosebumps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsZkCFoqSBs

To do that, at that moment, in the quarter-final of a World Cup. Incredible. And the commentary is just the icing on the cake.

I don't know what Shearer has to do with the 2010/11 football season, unless you're talking about his rather dull commentary for BBC Sport

Big Joe saved us the game again, the kid seems to have an old head on young shoulders.
Must say unlucky to Spurs, you where gracious in defeat (unlike some teams i could mention :p: ) and but for the fact your strikers didn`t seem to know where the net was you could well have taken a CL spot!

Hopefully beat the Potters on Saturday then that monkey is finally lifted, trouble is this is City we`re talking about :erm:

I think Peter Crouch found the net okay....just at the wrong end

I think Spurs were pathetic, why oon earth does Harry pick Crouch, there is Pav and Defoe on the bench.

Crouch was terrible, no only does he get sent off in the Euro game, he then scores for City.

There are several players that must leave in the summer, Crouch and Gomez, give Cudicine, he was great last night, and this sore back lark from Harry was a farce, this season we just burn't out and don't have the power to keep up with the pace.

Levy must spend the money now, enough of this 'cap' that Spurs have, start spending.

I disagree with you Arthur, to say Spurs were pathetic is just plain wrong. They actually played some good football but yet again the problem was sticking the ball in the oppositions net. They are making chances just not converting them on a consistent enough basis. To many draws!
Looking at the spurs strikers stats this year makes woeful reading:

Anyway good luck against Liverpool, i thought the way your players wished the City players good luck after the match was a credit to the club.

Hi Matty,When l say pathetic about Spurs, is for the way they don't put the ball away, the golden chances over this season they have had, they should be at the top of the league.
Years ago, they used to be known as 10 minute wonders, as they conceded more goals in that time.

They MUST rebuild and Levy must open his cheque book - but l bet he won't.

Them moths need to fly some time :D I wonder if we`ll see some big changes at Spurs this summer or just a bit of tinkering Arry style?

I really can`t understand why he doesn`t play Defoe, personally i think he`s the best natural goalscorer from England around at the moment. Give him a few chances and he`ll normally tuck one away.
Is Levy more worried about wage structure and balancing the books, i suppose only the future will tell.

Do Spurs=Arsenal ??? :erm: :p:

Some interesting facts:

  • Spurs have won 1 of their last 13 matches.
  • Since beating AC Milan, Spurs' record is identical to their record after winning the League Cup. Ramos was sacked.
  • Redknapp's net spend since joining Spurs is £60m. They rank 7th in the highest wage budget.

Why, not only is Redknapp not receiving flack but being defended by mainstream media hacks?

Far better managers than Redknapp have, are and will be under pressure and scrutinised for such a record. But yet again, Redknapp's chummy relationship with the media proves it's worth.

Fun and games at the Hearts vs Celtic game.

Neil Lennon gets attacked by a fan and there seems to be trouble kicking off round the stand

First all I think you need to give Spurs leeway considering the entire season they had, it isn't great but it's hardly been awful either. So I actually think any excessive flak is unjustified.

However I totally agree that certain other managers, pretty much all of them, would be under a lot of pressure by now. It is because of his relationship with the media and it's absurd that while Wenger gets immense pressure from the media for achieving 3rd with the same kind of resources, 'Arry gets none.

This is getting more and more absurd. The SPL needs to do something, it's becoming really damaging to the image of Scottish football, something which was already not especially great.

It's mostly down to the sectarianism in Glasgow. The knuckle draggers on both sides of the divide either love or hate him.... and it's nothing to do with football.

I'm a Celtic fan and strongly opposed Lennon's appointment. With his history of problems playing at International level there was always going to be trouble. He is quite an obnoxious and aggressive character who has had a diplomacy bypass but he doesn't deserve what he's had to endure this season.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Hi LondonRoad, thanks for that IF Lennon is bringing bad feelings to Celtic, then WHY don't the club sack him.

Lennon is bringing so many problems to the club, surely it is tarnishing the club, last night he had more bodyguards coming off the pitch, then l have seen for officials.

Something must be done to stop a big club going down the drain with this aggro round every corner, l watch BOTH Celtic and Rangers, and my wifes family come from Glasgow and are all Celtic fans, and don't like me watching Rangers, BUT l say ITS FOOTBALL.

I am a big Spurs fan, but l watch all football.
