Well regarding the £7 charge as now seems to be true i shall take it anyway as we have the sports and movies and it is worth it for both,but if we do remove the movies somewhere down the line then the hd sub would be took off as i cant justify £7 just for two sports channels if it was for the four off them then maybe another matter.

And thats the cost PER DAY.

I think its certain boxes on our samsung v+ they are there in the 800s same for the v hd box dont kinow about the samsung v box haven't looked on there as the eldest daughters room is like a bomb site.:D:D and i am not going to venture in there.

Well it seems that nobody is really entirely sure at the minute about what the pricing is as it is yet to be officially announced. A full announcement of pricing etc. is expected on Monday. So we shall have to just wait and see what VM have planned :)

It is rumoured that Virgin Media will be giving everyone free tickets to every football game next season.
The reason behind this is that there will be no extra charge, you can watch it in HD and 3D with surround sound, truly making you feel "as if you are there".

Yup, doing the same myself. Blue Sky, bright sunshine, laughter of kids playing... washing line full of clothes that got soaked in the frequent heavy showers when we were cycling earlier on..;)

Right can someone just clarify this for me, I have a XL TV package with the HD Box and I have the Sky Sports package, is the rumour that for me to get sky sports hd I need to pay a extra £7.00 ?? or the fact Im on XL and subscribe to sports already it will be free, whats the rumour ??

Yes but with Sky you have call out fees - £10 HD fees - higher box fees especially on multiroom. If your box need assistance you will have to pay up to £50 for an Sky engineerer to come and fix it. Plus when there is bad weather like rain the picture breaks up, I know this because 3 of my friends are on sky and all 3 said the same. They all wish they lived on cable streets to get virgin.

These are the resons I am with Virgin Media today and not Sky.

You're right, it's not a rumour, it's just plain incorrect.

Ofcom didn't set a price for HD, they agreed with Sky that it was a developing market and that setting a set price on it could prevent future innovation. Instead they ruled it must be offered on "fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory basis" Section 1.7 in the statement deals with it.

In the third review they proposed that price, but then decided not to implement any fixed pricing.

Totally agree matey,But got to say im a little disappointed in VM if charges are true.Its clear that sky were desperate for VMTV so VM were in the driving seat and should have got the best deal for there customers and i think £5,£7 or £10 charge for vip xl customers isnt and not including sports 3+4 is a shambles,Now they are left with no bargaining tools and sky have total control.Its all very good having a long term carrage agreement but it doesnt stop them upping the prices and also giving us new HD channels that start after the agreement was signed.I felt selling to sky was a mistake and i feel things will get worse,Monday`s annoucement could be the start of price increases and the slow demise of VM from the TV side of things.I so hope i am very wrong :(

VM will be concentrating on getting the best deal for their shareholders - it's what companies do. If that means all customers have to pay for the Premium HD channels or if they are included in the VIP or XL tiers at no additional charge will be based on which is thought to get the best return for the shareholders. Let's just wait until they are ready to tell us - coming soon ;)

Monday can come and go for all I care. I've already decided that I'm not going to bother take on any of the newer packages. Virgin already screw me out of £6 a month just because I want a decent phone line into my house instead of their shoddy effort, so why would I want to pay another £27.50 or so to get just 2 HD sports channels. I don't care about SD sports channels. Almost double my monthly bill for 2 channels, no thanks VM. I already feel cheated that 20% of my monthly bill is to pay not to have a phone line that doesn't even have basic items like caller display on it for heavens sake.

Yeah I did think that was what they may be referring to, would have though it very strange to close that many HD channels especially as a carriage deal has been done for them with Virgin. Looking forward to seeing some of the stuff on Arts in HD and 5.1 sound.

History, Nat Geo Wild and MGM HD are the HD channels I'd most like to see on Virgin that we don't have already. MGM especially because the one thing we don't see much of at the moment in HD is films. (I know Film 4 is imminent!)

just had a VM enginner out to repalce my old fualty pace box, gave me a new v hd box, i asked him about the sky sports hd channels and he says he has had emails saying it will be £7 extra per box. I know its come from an engineer but all the rumors and chat is pointing in that direction. If its true i done think i will go for ss hd just noemal ss sd

Sources confirm that there is a rumour regarding the rumour that Virgin will be charging £7 per month, per box for Sky HD Premium content.

Anyway, the erm, rumour regarding the rumour indicates that Virgin will be making an announcement on Monday to confirm the other erm, rumour regarding the Sky HD Premium content charge. The rumour that Sky HD content was coming to Virgin was confirmed as a fact, and therefore, is no longer a rumour.

However, the rumoured £7 per box, per month charge is in itself, a rumour, and should not be confirmed as fact. The rumour is that Virgin staff are instructing customers not to believe any rumours and wait for the facts. The facts are rumoured to be revealed on Monday, but that in itself, its a rumour.

I posted this previously however I'm sure it got lost about 30 pages ago :)

Does anyone know if Virgin have any plans to expand on the foreign channels they offer?

My fiance is German, and it would be great if we could get acces to German channels such as ZDF, RTL etc.

I can't get a satellite dish to receive the channels as I live in a ground level flat surrounded by trees and the guys upstairs won't allow me to put a dish higher up :(

Yet again....YOU don't know what these 'daft' prices are yet. Wait unitll the cross the board pricing has been announced.

The prices, whatever they are, will be relative to an individual's pocket and to how much an individual believes is value to them.

No matter how much conjecture, rumour and counter rumour is posted on any forum, Virgins pricing module will be one that HAS been set after some market research done in the field, and one that fits their business model.

A few hundred folk stamping their feet and spitting out their dummy 'threatening' not to pay any extra (when the majority actually will when it comes to it), on an internet forum will have no effect. This sort of thing happens on internet forums across a whole spectrum of subjects, and unfortunately, internet forums are full of folk that are so insular they think that their ranting is actually going to have an effect. It won't. The business in question have set their pricing....and it will only be actual revenue, or lack of it, that will change that model.

At this time, from what we can see, VM are not going to add any more foreign language channels. This is a shame as I think it would be useful for education purposes - I watch TV5 to help me with my French.

You could try an online player such as Livestation to stream channels to your PC

not sure on the content of the channels you listed but don't ZDF show some sports ? if they do there is the issue of rights there as I don't think VM couldput any foreign channels on that show sports as the UK rights would probably be covered by another channel

Very unlikely VM will add more foreign channels beyond more Asian ones. The only solution for him would be internet tv, ARD, ZDF etc can be found on the net someplace, somewhere.

Many of the original cablecos did used to have a bouquet of foreign stations on analogue and it varied from region to region, but you would usually get one French, German, Italian and Spanish channels at a minimum. Alas, as space got limited the channels were dropped for English language ones and VM shows no inclination of changing that.

That's interesting. SS1 and SS2 HD could have slipped in at 515 and 516 without any trouble, unless they need room for SS3 and SS4 HD too - which would be a major surprise to say the least.
