Sorry I didn't realise you had been missing from the forum, have you been somewhere?

:D Glad to see you safely home. Did you get a chance to do any sightseeing? At least you managed to miss some of our rotten weather.

Yay! - just booked the flights for next summer's holiday.

Off to North Cyprus last week in July, first week in August - two families and assorted offspring, staying at our friends' villa near Catalkoy.

Some views of the accommodation...

Off for this year's holiday in 10 days. Three weeks in Malaysia. The downside is that some bright spark thought it would be a good idea to cycle 650 miles in the hot and humid tropics in 16 days :erm:

We went there in '84 - my bro-in-law was doing his post-doc at UBC; we toured BC (Summerland is lovely), and camped on Vancouver Island (where we found out that bears do, in fact, defecate in the woods), and had a long weekend in Seattle (it's only a couple of hours drive away).

Enjoy - BC is a lovely place.

Sit through 3 hours of adverts at the start and get constantly pelted with M&Ms and nachos from the back?

Then you notice a big hole in the seat of your chair where someone's tried to stub out a sneaky cig. To top it off some nightmare family arrives 10 minutes after the start of the film and the usher shines a torch in your face while looking for a spare seat.

Pleased with myself for being brave. I have bought many items from ebay over the years but have never bid for anything as I find loosing difficult in any area of my life. I have bid for 4, I repeat 4 items this morning and my knees are already knocking at the thought of someone winning the items instead of me.

If anyone has the time can they keep their fingers crossed for me for the next 3 days. Pretty please. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2013/05/7.gif

If I am looking to bid on something that is not Buy it now, I always put it and similar items on my Watch list and try and wait until the last few minutes and have a second page open with my bid pre entered and as the Auction enters the last 10 seconds I then bid, if I win I win if not I live to bid again.;)

I am a real woose, I worried for hours last night, read all the guide lines, put the items on a watch list, bookmarked the seller, and then rechecked everything I had done a second and third time.

This morning the checking cycle started again and I decided enough was enough and put bids on all four items. I only really want one item but if I win all four I wont mind at all though John may just ban me from ebay auctions in future when he is swamped with my treasures and has fears for my sanity.

Do you put a maximum bid as that atleast helps to try and win the auction. Otherwise the next person just bids and is ahead of you.
Good luck in the auction and even if you don't get it, there will always be a next time.

No one had placed a bid on any of the items since they were listed 4 days ago so I just put a bid in for the amount suggested. Have I messed up already?

Halcyon 12-12-2010 11:35

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

No. It just means that if someone comes along and puts the next bid in then they will be the current higest bidder replacing you.

let's say there is an item at £2. I would put a bid of £5 so when the next person goes to bid £2.50, £3, or £4, you will still be the highest bidder upto the maximum bid you placed. So you might get the item at your original £2 but in case someone bids you have a chance with your maximum bid.
Ofcourse if the bidder goes over your £5 maximum then they are the leading highest bidder.

I tend to hold back on the maximum I am willing to pay and make a bid 15/20% under and try to be home when the auction ends and add the final bit with 30 seconds spare. If I am beat then I dont mind ( obviously on low cost items I dont try this)

That is why I only put them on my Watch list and bid at the end just in case I win them all.;):D

I was recently looking for a 19 inch monitor local to myself and looked for weeks as did not want to pay postage on such an item, then oddly someone put one on for Buy it now for £25 so I swooped and got a monitor worth over £70 for my patience and it is like new.:)

Ah, so that's how it works. I was worried that I would end up paying more than I needed to. I see now that it works the same way as a normal auction where I can leave a bid with the Auctioneer but he will only use my reserve to take my bids over a competitors.

I shall be delighted if I win all four even if John is muttering about my driving him to bankruptcy. I have even been back on ebay having another search this morning and have found a fifth item in the series which I have bought sohe is now regretting encouraging me.

Now that way seems even more guaranteed to give me heart failure. Thank goodness what I am bidding for doesn't involve hundreds of pounds. I can see I have a lot to learn about this ebay auction lark. Give me a proper auction any day, at least the agony of waiting is a bit reduced and I have the satisfaction of being able to glare at any misguided people who dare to take my items.

I was so happy to find the things on ebay after searching for so long. Why can't I just buy the dratted things and be done with it. LOL This is turning into a moan and taking the thread off topic. Sorry folks.

Remember though that you do not have to just bid on items on Ebay as the are plenty of Buy it Now auctions where you pay the price for the item such phone batteries, phone covers even art products and they are usually cheaper than going to the store.:)

You do artwork for a living and probably use certain brands try searching for them on Ebay and you may be pleasantly surprised.;)

In fact most of my recent purchases have been Buy it Now ones.:)

:D Everything I have bought over the last few years from ebay have been from Buy it Now sellers and I have bought everything from art supplies to a kitchen sink in the past. White and blue LEDs, two sets years ago that I had before anyone else as they were special import ( by Konst Smide at £40 a set!) and another I picked up recently. Mostly silver decorations as I rather like an "Ice tree". Not so unusual now.

We drag the same old tree and deccys out every year. Looking quite sad now, baubles include a couple of these thin glass ones that I bought in Woollies for around 4D many years ago, what's that in new money? But would I part with them.....?:)

Good luck, I'm 100% sure of the outcome but my fingers will be crossed on the night. :)

I am very very happy. A nervous wreck, high on caffeine but very happy.

........https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/02/21.gif https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2014/03/1.gif https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/02/21.gif

I won all 5 of the items I bid on. OK so no one else wanted them, but I was still a nervous wreck by the end.

Thanks deffy for keeping me sane. :D

(Just in case anyone remembers my original post you will notice I bid on an extra item and got that as well.)
