Sorry unable to supply screen grabs plus all the channels are showing no programme information the wife did switch the V+ off last night and I rebooted this morning when I got up

I'll try a reboot and see what happens

Same has happened for me as well, on 116 it explains the channel moveabouts but I don't know what that 165 is cause the actual 165 is Diva +1

Well the reboot didn't fix anything it's now showing all programme information as loading.

There is another channel with no information on it's channel 145 in the middle of the E4/MORE4 section

Hi, Liverpool is part of the Telewest network served by the Knowsley headend, Wirral & Manchester is part of the old Nynex/CWC/NTL network currently served by the Bromley headend.

However, no BBC Radio 4 LW, BBC Radio London or BBC News Multiscreen. NGTV_Switch has also disappeared off the channel provisioning.

Also, Total Services on V Box has now gone up to 301 and Total Services on V+ Box has gone up to 308. Technical Stuff also shows that the V+ Box rebooted around 3am.

Exact same thing happened to me. Rebooted at 3:17am in the morning (could tell as it chopped a tiny bit off my recording) checked for the channels and none there. etc etc. What was it and i thought it should be NGTV now

Dear Matt,

Thank you for your recent email regarding the launch of ITV1 HD.

We are currently in negotiations with ITV in order to provide a UTV HD channel in Northern Ireland in the near future.

We appreciate when viewers take the time to contact us as your views are important and have been seen by UTV senior management.

Best wishes,

I asked would we have it for the world cup and got this helpful reply

Sorry Matt but I won’t be able to respond any further.

Best wishes,

Sarah

Someone who posted on Wikipedia thinks Virgin Media will move Diva +1 from Channel 165 to Channel 166 before the end of this month.

But an Virgin insider has told me that Diva+1 is not being moved until Virgin drop this channel on April 1st.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

So no NGTV for me today, but strange that it rebooted due to the channel reshuffles and the updating message on on demand yesterday and the loss of NGTV_Switch channel off the EPG today. Spiderplant was correct...as usual :D

Last week, we told you that E4 HD and Film4 HD would be available to customers who had our ‘M+’ TV service and above. Unfortunately this could have been a little clearer - Film4 HD will certainly be available to customers on M+ and above, however E4 HD will be included at no extra cost for our ‘XL’ TV customers only. I hope to god that Oldham does NOT get the NGTV update on the 28th March (29th - Midnight) because WRESTLEMANIA 26 is on and I would rather have no TV at all than to miss it. Please Virgin Media dont update on that night.

It is odd that Film 4 is going in the M+ but E4 in XL, I can certainly understand putting HD in the XL pack to help recoup cost and tempt more subscribers to upgrade but this really shows some randomness on where channels end up.

There's no mention in the press release of it being "exclusive", and Sky normally bang on about that. It is though subscription-free - I can't see that £10 a month charge being justifiable when Virgin are offering a dozen HD channels now (and none of them HD showcases like Luxe) to XL customers.

Gold wouldnt work but Dave would i think with its endless re-runs of top-gear (which are now in HD) plus the original content could be recorded in HD and scaled down for SD side of things.

but like i said most of the UKTV going HD would be a very slim chance

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

So current standings Sky have 42 HD channels to VM 13 with what I feel is a Go Get List of 11 more taking VM to 24 HD channels.

This then leaves Sky's own HD channels which I can only presume will be part of the Ofcom ruling.
My understanding is that Sky HD channels are a option to VM but this would result in VM charging customer in the region of £20 per month - something that does not make sence when VM are trying to compete.

In that case if VM can offer all HD channels (excluding Skys HD channels) for no extra monthly subscripion then I think us VM customer are getting a good HD service - with the extra option to add Sky HD channels at a premiem.

It would be also intresting to see how sky reach the 50 HD channels mark by Xmas.

I do know that the below HD channels are in early statges

BBC News HD
ESPN Americia HD
Good Food HD
Since VM have delayed selling VMTV channels its suggested they could revert back to the old plan which was to HD Bravo, Challange and V1. - But i'm guessing these would go down the same route as Living HD - VM Only.

So thats a possiable 6 more but knowing Sky they seem to convert all Sky Channels to HD so guessing Sky2/3 will also get the HD treatment and maybe Sky Sports News.

TheDon 17-03-2010 14:56

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Your "Sky Only but VM go get List" options include a number of channels that BskyB have partnerships in. It's only Nat Geo Wild, Rush, Luxe and Disney Cinemagic that BskyB have nothing to do with (and possibly Five, but that remains to be seen) the rest were launched in partnership with BskyB, so could have limitations on their availability to other platforms.

It's surely no coincidence that of all the channels announced not a single one of them has any involvement with BskyB.

@ TheDon

Yes agree but unless there owned by BskyB then they do not own the rights, exclusivity rights are for limited period of time, after this time then these can be offered to any service provider.

If the service provider takes up the option is another matter.

If BskyB have done the same with Five HD (Cash Injection) then you can bet it would well be over a year until VM customers get Five HD.

But Sky have not stated exclusive to Sky so it seems another deal must of being done.

Argh what is VM's obsession with rebooting my V+ around 3AM and nothing has changed, there is no point! The live events 'upgrading' message is probably a lie as well. Silly.

The go get list could well be a possibility if virgin have said more to follow so could be any number of these.Have you any idea red with working for vm?.

From reading WWW.VMHD.BLOGSPOT.COM Big Red does not work for VM he has friends that work there and that is where he gets the info from.

Anyway on another note :welcome: Big Red to the forum.

media boy, sorry to bring this up, I have one minor problem with your grammar. (mine is not perfect at all but I thought I would bring this to your attention)

Your use of 'an' is nearly always wrong.

An is used before a word that starts with a vowel ie. an igloo, an apple an orange an exclusive etc etc.

A is used elsewhere ie. a HD channel a virgin customer a new channel..

Hope this helps and please dont take this personally its just a bit of advice to enhance my reading pleasure of your posts which I find very helpful!!

@ Gadge

Sorry Gadge this is not the place to state if I work or if I know VM staff.
VM take early press releases/inside Intel serious so to protect myself and others its best not to say - Hope you know what I mean

All I can say is BBC News HD, ESPN America HD and Good Food HD are all coming at some point this year.

As stated and as per TheDon post some of the 11 go get could be part of a Sky exclusive - but depends when that exclusive right finishes - Sky do not own these channels.

I fully expect Nat Geo Wild, Rush, Luxe and Disney to be a easy get for VM. and no doubt be part of the VM 20-30 HD channel line up before end of year.

Plus with VM putting the sale of VMTV on the back burner rumours are they could revert to the original plan which resulted in 1)HD and 2)ReBranding to VM - 2) could be expensive and would only be part rebrand as Living has already gone through rebranding and I can not see that getting redone - although VM class Living as there equal to Sky1 (Not Virgin1)

Also Picture Box the £5 amonth extra for movies which is owned by Universal - talks are ongoing that Picture Box could be crapped with VM&Universal partnering there own Movie Channels to compete against Sky.

The £5 picture box is simply not worked as is costing VM more money that it receives.

Plus there are rumours and these are only rumours that with the TiVo boxes coming to the UK by end of the year TiVo and VM are looking into extending TiVo current Blockbuster deal to the UK or seeing what options they have with Love Film - If true this would replace the Film Flex option we have now or mean Film Flex would be come Box Office like pre DVD release.

All I can say I was with Sky for 10 plus years and for me to move from Sky with what they offer to VM must say what direction VM are going in.

And to add to the above watch out Sky Sports - ESPN are coming.
Fully expect ESPN to out bid Sky on more than one Prem league package when they next come up for bidding - ESPN are a huge Global force.

Remember Sky only get UK rights to Prem League with the Prem League selling Global rights direct - if we all think the current prem deal is crazy then I hate to think what the next deal will be.

And who pays for this? Yep us - does anyone recall Sky reducing the Sports package when Setanta/ESPN had 2 packages - not a chance.

The Future is Bright and the Future is VM.

Actually, whilst your post is mostly corrent, An is used before words that start with a vowel SOUND, not an actual vowel.

There's many cases of words that start with consonants where An is the appropriate word, such as "an hour", and words that start with vowels where A is the correct prefix, like "a united".

Like many words starting with H, HD is a special case which directly depends on the pronunciation of the letter H, many people will pronounce H with a h sound, as in heyatch, others with an a sound, as in aytch. In the latter An is correct.

For the "corrected" 10 go get list, the below are the one's which could be difficult

Bio - AETN UK & BskyB (Launch Date SKY) 05/11/2008
C&I - AETN UK & BskyB (Launch Date SKY) 05/11/2008
History - AETN UK & BskyB (Launch Date SKY) 26/10/2006
MGM - Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer & BskyB (Launch Date SKY) 14/12/2009

Sky dont own these channels put partner to produce a HD platform and in some cases HD content.

MGM could be another year but from what I saw when I had Sky there was aload of rubbish - so not missing much.

With the other 3, they have being out in the open for some time and since there owned by the same broadcaster we could get all 3 or could fall under this Ofcom ruling VM are waiting to hear.

So lets say 6 out of the 10 are surley 100% coming soon HD channels

---------- Post added at 18:26 ---------- Previous post was at 18:18 ----------

im sorry to say but there is more to sports than football and to be honest football is all that ESPN is bothered about.
there is a serious lack of motorsports on ESPN and they missed out on both NASCAR (live and highlights) and Indycar (highlights), whats even worse is they missed out on NASCAR to a public broadcast channel.
sure ESPN get DTM but its only due to the fact it is a left over off the Setanta deal. i think its pretty poor that ESPN have big presence in US and they cant even get the bigger Motor racing series from the US on air here in UK.

there is too much focus on football on ESPN that is not relevent here in the UK and there is fans of sports that they are already showing in the US but dont show here in the UK.

you say whch out Sky Sports - ESPN are coming !!

i say Sky Sports have nothing to worry about as all the stuff shown on ESPN is very minority orientated apart from the football and SKY have a wide range of sports that i will watch.
even eurosport has WTCC, SKB, Moto GP, F3 series that are all coming in HD soon.

I am afraid the words are true regarding espn coming for sky sports have you seen the size of espn they make sky look like amateurs money wise plus they also have much deeper pockets.

No like big red said i feel they are getting there grounding. I fully expect them to be serious bidders come the next round of TV deals. They are not fly by night people. I think sentanta going under forced there hand a little. So now they have got into the market cheaper than they first thought.

Men and Motors update.

ITV told a Sky Viewer that M&M close at 6am on April 1st on Sky. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...&postcount=214

But Virgin are set to drop M&M next Thursday (March 25th) so we may get an extra week.

More info as I get it...

they may have deep pockets but they proved they are too scared to dip into them with NASCAR i mean they lost out to a public access channel FFS !!!

it just seems that everytime i put ESPN/HD on there is nothing but football on and to be honest football does not float my boat.
i really thought the we would get some of the US motor racing series here in UK that they alrready have contracts to show in US but we get nothing other than DTM that is a leftover from Setanta.

even Eurosport shows more US motorsport than ESPN as they show the US 24 hours series !!!

like i said they already failed with NASCAR which is the most popular US racing series public access and that is really bad for a broadcast company with so called "deep pockets".

Sky have the rights to Nascar in the US and did so before ESPN joined the UK market - So they were unable to offer this to us UK fans.

ESPN own the NASCAR rights in US and also plan to release NASCAR via HD. - if you watch NASCAR on Sky sports you will see that its covered by ESPN
and in some cases FOX and sometimes by ABC which comes under the same ownership as ESPN.

Remember this is ESPN first year.

Sky dont own the rights to NASCAR here in the UK the deal ran uot with the daytona 500 this year. some little nobody picked up the UK rights to air on public access because ESPN were either too slow or not willing to pay for it.

as for Indycar sure Sky have the deal for that but Five had the highlight rights packaget oboth NASCAR and Indycar but it ran out last year and so far nobody has picked up either. if ESPN were the company you say then they would snap up a highlight package for both but they clearly are only bothered about football here in the UK.

Open Access 3 have NASCAR rights in the UK - Sky only.

Thats shows you how much Nascar was watched.

There is not much motor sports that gets people jumping up and down to watch it.

Indy Car - I give you that one, I think its one if not the best motor sports on 4 wheels at the moment.
F1 would rather watch paint dry - its the new Nascar
Nascar - after time its gets boring and very late nights early mornings.
WTCC - I'm sure this was on Grandstand, then ITV1, moved to ITV4 does it sit on motorsports channel now?
Moto GP - agree its good.

So Indy Car and Moto GP are must have sports but all have long term deals with current broadcasters.

---------- Post added at 19:35 ---------- Previous post was at 19:27 ----------

Remeber ESPN have not being in the UK for a year yet and already they have a good size lineup.

You can say Golf(Rights bought up by Sky since Setanta crash), Motor Sports, Cricket (Mainly Sky and ITV4 viewing of the Prem League "that says it all") are all missing from there lineup.

They only have one UK channel with ESPN Americia manily for US sports and Classic

A1 GP Sky Sports ???

all the above are awesome motorsport series and more like BTCC, World series by Renault, GT racing series, WRC, IRC etc that dont get aired and are pretty entertaining. they would be easy for ESPN to get deals and broadcast but they dont seem interested in nothing but football. look at the list you posted over half of it is dedicated to football and the rest is split between lost of minority sports (i do like NHL though).
its a shame that ESPN are not going for these as motorsport looks awesome in HD.

A1 GP - was setup to rival F1 which Sky but alot of money into.
NASCAR - Just tells you if Sky dont extend deal then was the viewing at the time of the day worth it. - so why would ESPN pick up left overs.

F1 - Will never go to a pay tv station it will always remain on a free to air broadcaster - There is a rule about this - I will try and dig it out but it goes for other sports a % of them have to be shown on free to air channels.

Yes agree its footbal football football - but the rights to those football leagues are cheap and its what most people watch - Serie A football has alot of UK followers and the fact the rights to these were up due to the Setanta Crash.

You got to look at there point of view what are current ratings, NASCAR must of beimng either asking for too much money or the viewing were that bad that all have rejected hence why its on Open Access.

Remember ESPN started June last year so not even a year yet and not even started.

F3 series - Eurosport/Eurosport HD

NASCAR (awesome IMO) open access (public broadcast)
A1 GP Sky Sports ???

all the above are awesome motorsport series and more like BTCC, World series by Renault, GT racing series, WRC, IRC etc that dont get aired and are pretty entertaining. they would be easy for ESPN to get deals and broadcast but they dont seem interested in nothing but football. look at the list you posted over half of it is dedicated to football and the rest is split between lost of minority sports (i do like NHL though).

Everything you just listed is already shown on other channels. ESPN can't buy rights for a sporting event which has already been sold to another broadcaster. They can only get the rights when the current contract runs out.

A lot of people seem to think they can pay to show whatever they want. This isn't the case. If they could, ESPN would easily have snapped up everything you listed and more sports besides, but as it is, they have to wait.

World series by Renault, GT series, WRC, IRC, Le Mans 24 hours (enduro series). all these are not getting live coverage. sure we get some highlights coverage but there is nothing live shown. NASCAR was up for grabs and ESPN let it slip away.

even DTM on ESPN was not shown live last year for most races because of football even though they have the contract to show both qualifying and race live. it just seems a missed oppertunity for someone like me who is not into football and prefers motorsports i mean even Sky Sports knows that Football is not the only sport out there and offers a greater choice of alternative sports to god damn football.

to be honest im suprised that ESPN have not snapped up feeder series like WSBR, Indy lights Formula BMW, Formula Palma Audi, ARCA etc as these are great series to watch and the licences will be for almost nothing.

A1GP is dead. Le Mans 24 hour will be on Eurosport again this year in June.

So how are we doing at this staying on topic idea?

New thread idea- My preference in televised sport and how that really affects the games SKY and ESPN will play next time rights come up for renewal

I don't think home and away or neighbours are made in HD anymore, i think it was too time consuming for them as it takes longer to edit and they have to make 4 eps a week on average.

But why would ESPN buy up rights and then use Live time up for something thats not bringing the audances in.

Every one of Sky's sports deals is multi million and in one case billions and on long term deals, most dont run out until 2014 and were extended last year.

World series by Renault, GT series, WRC, IRC, Le Mans 24 hours - the rating are that poor its only worth highlight rights.

DTM - whats the betting it gets dropped after the deal runs out - if the air time is better used by something that people will watch then they are going to do that.

In my eyes is just shows how poor NASCAR was for Sky to drop - Your saying ESPN missed the oppertunity to get it - why would ESPN buy something thats no getting the audances even on Sky.

ESPN are competing against Sky Sports and have just started, they bought into a inherted Prem League deal which see's them loose a package but ESPN are a huge global force and will sign multi million pound deals if it gets the audances.

It just shows with the likes of the indina cricket league not even ITV think its worth showing on prime time ITV1 instead its on ITV4.
NASCAR on Open Access3 - not open access 1/2 but 3.

ESPN and Sky are competing for Premium sports - Football is part of that if you like it or not.

Your comparing Sky's choice v ESPN - some facts Sky have being around in the UK since 1989 - ESPN -Aug 2009 7 months compared to 20+ years.

Sky have 5 UK sports channels compared to ESPN 1 or 3 if you want to include ESPN America and Classic.

Will ESPN choice get better and bigger - Yes
Will ESPN be able to equal its self to Sky - Yes but time will tell 2014 is a HUGE date in ESPN diary - most of the multi million/billion pound deals that Sky have will expire within this year.

HD shouldn't take any longer to edit than SD. The only different is the amount of detail you see but that's off topic for this thread as Five HD isn't (yet) coming to Virgin!

oops sorry yeah agree back to Virgin

the thing is just cause your opinion is that most motorsports are not worth watching there is a big following of people that think it is. i hate football and think that all the air time it gets is a waste.

have you ever been to a race ???
i have and i know that crowds are bigger on avarage than what most football matches get (WRBR at sliverstone last year was over 150,000 to that one event alone).

the problem is that ESPN is hung up on football there is far too much of it aired and it ****es me off.

DTM is the biggest touring car series in europe and hope that it ESPN dont drop it but if they do Eurosport will pick it up and then again its ESPN`s loss and hopefully either way ill get to see it in HD.

yes i know the Le Mans 24 hours is on Eurosport but only the one race (or 2 if they get the Spa 24 hours as well) there is 9 races in total to the series and 8 of which will not be aired its another wasted oppertunity especially as Nigel Mansell is driving in the full series with his own team. what more do you need to pull an audience than probably the most well known of British drivers ever to race.

the problem is ESPN wont give motorsports a try as it seems they are too worried in loosing the die hard football fan.
