Re: Heavy Snow warning for Wales (Met Office Flash Warning)
there is already a thread
SNOW |
Re: Snow !
merged ;)
It's just chuffing cold here in Surrey. I don't think we're expected to suffer problems this time round. |
Re: Snow !
It was -3.5 C when I set out for work (at 9:30am) this morning.
|
Re: Snow !
It's raining here in Swansea. The bus company says snow has disrupted service in Garnswllt and Cimla.
|
Re: Snow !
Bright sunshine here in Manchester but it is still only 2C so lots of glowing red noses. I'm not looking forward to the snow they are predicting for this area on Sunday.
|
Re: Snow !
Bright sunny but brass monkey wotsits here...
|
Re: Snow !
Well, there has barely been a cloud in the sky here since all this 'awful' weather kicked off. Cold but clear. Long may it continue. :D

no idea arthur ,but when ever i have seen a gritter in the morning over the last 2 days they have had a couple of inches of snow on the top of the roof so they have been parked up all night instead of out gritting |

A whole inch in Cardiff... buses being cancelled already.
|
Re: Snow !
Well, what a surprise ... Asda man was here about 8.30pm and there wasn't a sign of snow. Now I look out the window and we have half an inch of it, and more steadily falling. And Mrs T. is just starting her journey home on a road that will be un-gritted for the last 3 miles to the house. :erm:
|
Re: Snow !
it's been snowing in newcastle for about 2 hours now realy heavy ,my cats climbing the window trying to catch the snowflakes :D
|
Re: Snow !
The whole people assuming a road is ungritted because they happen to have not seen a gritter and the road is bad is once again starting to get my goat!!! I know for a fact (Father working gritting callout for years) they have been out gritting in this area during most of the bad weather for the last several years and there are always people still saying they haven't!!! They just seem to be easy targets for a lot of people!!
Just because you've not seen it doesn't mean its not been past when you have not been looking. Gritters are not some magical vehicle that stops all effects of snowfall, you grit to early and the salt is washed/driven off the road and the snow settles, you grit after it starts to settle and you are to late, the snowfall is to heavy and it settles anyway. The council around here HAVE been out gritting and are whenever there is a risk of icy roads never mind heavy snowfall. As it stands we have had no snow although it's been Brass Monkeys. |
Re: Snow !
I want to see some snow!!!

Re: Snow !

An inch or two here in Leicester. Not enough to make you feel Christmassy but enough to ensure the locals empty Tesco of bread and milk, and to ensure public transport completely shuts down.

Weather said we weren't going to get any signs of snow here until Sunday. so we get some snow this morning
watching the news and the reporter is somewhere where the snow isn't that bad. it looks like when it's thawing out and almost gone. she bends down and wipes a bit of snow off a sign and says this gives you an idea of how bad it is  send her to somewhere where there is snow and she'd wet herself. it's crazy the way the media try and make it sound like it's a crisis when really it's just a little bit of snow. |

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/at...1&d=1290863053 The temperature at 1pm: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/at...1&d=1290863053 And the temperature on the solar panels at the same time: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/at...1&d=1290863053 I love technology. Free hot baths even in the middle of winter. :D |

Looks Glorious Chris. Congrats.

Re: Snow !
-7C in Manchester at present, it will be one or two degrees less than that up here in Oldham, either way it is the coldest it has been this winter.

So where is this snow?Seems the forecast has changed again.
So much for that couple who had a snow sled taking up room in their trolley at Asda yesterday..They are going to have to make a hell of a hike to find any snow round here. |

No snow here, but it's bloody cold (Manchester)

I'm going to brave the outdoors shortly, but in the meantime, here's one Mrs T took out of the dining room window about an hour ago.
Foreground is our front lawn and fence. At the centre of the picture is our road, with the neighbour's front lawn to the left of it. Although it's not possible to see where one ends and the other begins. http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/at...1&d=1290942884 |

Re: Snow !
The picture is taken from a height some way above the roof of the car, looking down. The snow is a fair way past half-way up the tyre. ;) The amount of snow on the top of the car roof should give you a clue as to the true depth.
Away from the side of the house, in the middle of the lane, the depth this afternoon was at least 15", possibly 18" in places. Say about 40cm. |

I cleared 13inch of snow off my conservatory roof this morning A bit of advice for those who have had heavy snow and have conservatories ,make sure that your polycarb roof on your conservatory (especially the leanto type like mine) hasn't got too much snow on it especially if your house roof hasn't got any snow boards as the snow can go straight through if the snow slides of the roof .Mine was approaching the snow load limit for the type of roof 0.6kn/m2 which most peoples will be unless they have a glass roof |
Re: Snow !
Again.... nothing :(
|
Re: Snow !
Just woke up for some strange reason, looked outside and i saw some snow on the ground!.
I can rest now, night all :D. Now its coming down heavy!. |
Re: Snow !
We've had about 1 inch of snow overnight here in Warrington
|
Re: Snow !
So it's creeping closer.Snow in Liss, some snow in Portsmouth and up on high ground(that will be Portsdown Hill) and apparently some points west.
Yet again Portsdown Hill protects us.This town is not called Lee-on-Solent for nothing.:) ---------- Post added at 07:31 ---------- Previous post was at 06:48 ---------- Hmm! Now it's lighter I notice that we did have a very fine layer of snow that's almost gone. Not even a millimetre really. At least it's a little warmer. ---------- Post added at 08:35 ---------- Previous post was at 07:31 ---------- Trying to snow.Laying in patches. |
Re: Snow !
Joy - travelling to London on the 9:40 train, so I booked a taxi for 8:30 (the journey to the station usually takes 20 minutes, but best to be safe than sorry, eh?) - taxi firm just rung up and told me the taxi would be 30 minutes late, due to traffic delayed by snow; is it me, or might they have planned for this?
|
Re: Snow !
This country planning for snow?
You have lived in the UK more than a year haven't you? The slightest hint of White stuff brings everything to a juddering halt every year without fail. :( |
Re: Snow !
Gadget likes it. Perhaps it keeps all the pond life at home?
|
Re: Snow !
Snow here now - couple of inches (well depth isn't everything you know!!! ;) ) in the SE London/N. Kent area.
I've been listening to LBC all morning and hearing quite a few drivers whingeing about how slowly the traffic is moving in the snow/ice. What does it take to make these people ever feel the need to slow down I wonder??... |
Re: Snow !
Here is -10 C and 2 feet of snow.. Tonight is forecast to be -23C...Cheers from Warsaw.

Re: Snow !

Re: Snow !
Just got back from a walk up the local high street. The traffic is ground to a halt and nobody is going anywhere for the foreseeable future so far as I can see. The usual shenanigans such as wheel spinning, u turns, abandoning cars etc. isn't helping matters either.
The wife and our eldest decided to walk the 3 miles to our youngest's special school to collect him and are on their way back now. The school buses ran this morning but there's no sign of any this afternoon so God only knows how those who don't have the option of walking will be getting their kids home this evening. |
