I make it 21 goals in six games and top of the league.

We're just following the excellent example of Man United, who have made the 2-2 draw part of their awesome weaponry this season.

Stoke 0-0 Forest

I'm pretty pleased, drawing 0-0 away to the league leaders, with Reidy in exile.

We even had a winner disallowed.

Following the example of United's poor defence? Leaking 2 goals at home today, leaking another 3 goal at home against Middlesborough? OK Arse didn't lose either but again, they can't be truly be considered the 'great' team they think they are until they fix this problem, at home at least.

At least your injury list isn't practically the whole team, to the extent that you're in the relegation zone and have been for three weeks, without a win all season. :(

Arsenal aren't about defence, they're about attack. They push that far up the field I'd expect them to leak goals.. they're much better than manu were in there hey dey.. they're such a delight to watch :droooool:

Yeah but with reidy and the fake marlon throwing their toys out, and commons out for three weeks (torn calf) how long will it be before we can't field a team?

If there was ever a time to play the lads from Newcastle, then now is it. Beaumont in CM and Gardner LM. Or at least give Bopp another chance at CM, Jess was garbage again today and Tank is seriously **** (what have the hoofers done to him?).

Kinnear better do something, hopefully get on the phone to Pardew and get the real Marlon back. (I wish he'd shut his gob though).

Daws back in three weeks, host of players to come back in 2-4 weeks but will we have any players left by then?

The physios / fitness coaches need sacking, our players have looked injured all season.

Every team has their day. Man Utd have had theirs and I am hoping they have another one starting quite soon.

I have followed Man Utd since 1963, so I am unlikely to change now, although I admit Arsenal do play some very attractive football at times.

A lot of the problem about when Man Utd were doing good, is that not many fans of other teams admitted the fact, because a lot of fans of other teams are just so anti Man Utd that they are blinkered in their outlook and wouldn't admit it even if their life depended on it, which I think is quite sad.

we've played all teams down the bottom who we should have beaten but have got one draw and lost the others..

Not when there's a perfectly good Mickael Silvestre to be at fault for things. Told you he was rubbish. It's not anti-Man U to point that out, it's an obvious fact.

Chelski 0 - **** 0 - suddenly yesterday's point looks quite good. Mind you, 4-1 away at Everton looks an excellent result, since they're now up to third. Wonder what the spud-faced granny shagger makes of that. Tomorrow's game at Old Trafford will decide who's the North-West's third best team.

Arsenal all about attack? Supported by the stats - the only real opposition in the league is Chelsea. Both have played three games home and away. Arsenal have scored 7 more goals at home and 8 more away from home. They've conceded 4 more goals at home and 2 more away from home. Chelsea have yet to concede a single goal away, and have only let one in at home. This with two new defenders and a new goalkeeper. Boring but formidable.

Such amusing bitterness....bet the barren years (ie most of the 90s) built up all that nastiness and resentment...:D

BBKing 19-09-2004 19:26

Re: [Merged] - Football talk

Bitterness cunningly disguised as a big, self-satisfied grin actually. At last we can get back to ignoring the North and having some proper London rivalry.

Barren 90s? 2 League titles, 2 FA Cups, 1 League Cup, 1 Cup Winners Cup. A lot of teams (Tottenham, Everton, Newcastle and Liverpool, to name four) would swap what they achieved in the 90s for that haul.

Now the early to mid 80s, you might have a point.

I notice you didn't disagree with me about Silvestre. Nice to have you onside on that.

Yes but they don't seem to have the same type of, er...'fans' that Arse do.

One FA Cup and one League Cup. We win again.

Quote:

I have absolutely no idea what this means. Everton have working-class Scouse fans (apart from the one from south-east London I know), Newcastle have incomprehensible, aggressive Geordie fans, Spurs have knuckle dragging cavemen and Chas and Dave. Arsenal have the odd luvvy and large numbers of shaven headed blokes with tattoos, plus Jews, Greeks and Turks and Irish. In other words, a typical cross-section of North Londoners.

Did I mention that Tim Howard is rubbish this season as well?

And neither Rooney (who has yet to play for his new club) and Rio (who we all know why) has played for Manyoo for a long time (or ever) so won't be match fit.

Liverpool have seemingly been galvanised by Benitez and look a decent side, ManYoo on the other hand have been all over the place all season and part of last.

I'll go as far as saying, on current forms ManYoo will struggle to get in the Champs League for next season.

All United, one obvious penalty not given and 5 or 6 other good chances.
John O Shea is not a forward, he lacks conviction when he has clear chances.

Totally devoid of quaking feet. Nice to see the new tactic to stop Silvestre making abysmal defensive cockups is to push him as far away from your own goal line as possible. Put O'Shea alongside him, is my advice.

Where's top goalie Howard gone?

O'Shea was a liability at both ends, Alan Smith would have converted at least one of O'Shea's first half attempts. Ronaldo man of the match, Rio excellent performance, its perhaps as well that Rooney wasn't playing it would have been all over by half time.

was at the game on Monday night so not had a chance to post yet. Was sitting in the second row so might have been on the box as well :)

Weather was terrible.. it only rains like that in Manchester and the first 5 rows aren't under cover !!!

We were the better side for most of the match and should have been 3-0 up in the first half. That run from Ronaldo was superb. O'Shea was meant to be a holding midfielder but i'd rather play Flecther instead who is much better. Giggs was still rubbish he does loads of step overs but when you actually have to beat the player he just runs into them!!

Never started the second half very well and that let them into the game. Ref was biased to them all the time.

Russ 22-09-2004 11:54

Re: [Merged] - Football talk

As much as I hate to say it, perhaps the time for Giggs to move on is upon us. Apart from the incredible goal he scored against the Arse in the FA Cup a few years back, there haven't been many instances where he's shown his early 90s abilities.

i agree.. a few times we have tried to buy replacements and the deals never came off so Fergie know's he's not up to scratch. Most of the time he just runs at defenders and they take the ball. His crossing and corners aren't very good and he can't use his right foot. He lives off past glories just because we have no one else with a left foot.

We could play with RvN and Rooney up front with Saha and SMith playing on left and right wing and Ronaldo in a free role. Would score so many goals it wouldn't matter how many we let in

Yeah, not sure what Djemba x 2 was doing on the pitch though.

But I think it's safe to say United are back - this time with our new cruise missile called Rooney :D

yes i was disappointed with djemba-djemba aswell, kleberson showed early on that he was good in support attack and in the centre of midfield he ended up fading away really.

I feel sorry for Giggs though, he got the opener with a strike that he isn't normally known for (a header) and by tomorrow no-one is going to remember he was even on the pitch :D

nah, i have always been a fan of giggs and he had a good game, he was making the runs down the left and trying to create things in midfield, hienze had a good game, van nistelrooy's finish was calm and cool :p:

A bit sad at hearing this, Brown has huge potential, it's a shame they couldn't agree on a payrise for him.

Grrrrrr @ agents!!

this seems another matter of a player listening to his agent rather than thiking about being a footballer.. he has great potential and we should keep him.. the rio thing last season showed how much we need cover across the back four.

Re: [Merged] - Football talk

well after Rooney's Euro debut in the week everyone had to come back down to earth.

Only saw the highlights but we didn't seem to play well against a team we should have beaten. Shouldn't put too much on Rooney's shoulders until he's played about 10 games really and with Smith in the side we can easily rotate things.

Off to the Palace v Fulham game tonight but expecting Palace to loose. Once again every match i've been to this season either United or Palace has been on TV!!!

I haven't :) Still got a big grin after Saturday. I wish I'd put something on Chelsea winning 1-0 though, the 1-0 winning experts playing the 1-0 losing experts was always going to end, er, 1-0. Gits.

Alan Green

With his blatant anti Man United views, it's a pity he never got the sack anyway, oh well

Could Emirates be leaving Chelsea to sponsor Arsenal? Or at least Arsenal's new stadium? Have a look at who has registered EMIRATESSTADIUM.COM.

Is that a sackable offence now?

Green's a Linfield fan who dislikes Alex Ferguson, a mutual feeling apparently but I've heard him slag off virtually anyone he thinks are playing crap. Interesting article from a few years ago (from a United website, to boot).

I suppose not, but I was under the impression commentators were supposed to remain impartial, although I could forgive a commentator getting slightly biased for the national side.

I have listened to Green on many a Saturday afternoon when united have been on, and his commentary leaves a lot to be desired at times.

On another note BBKing, have you purchased your executive box for Ashburton Grove yet ? A snip at £160,00 0 per season, twice the price for one at Old Trafford, it is no wonder football fans in London travel north.

Not many are though, Tyldesley creams himself over Man Utd, Tyler with Arsenal.
