The first game on BT Sport from the UK is on Friday night Partick Thistle v Dundee United so there cutting it fine now still time to get the first game of the Scottish season but the premier league is more realistic now I think

Cutting it fine is OK, as long as we don't have the same problems that plagued the launch of the ITV channels

I think any channel 'worth their salt' would want to be broadcasting on VM from launch

Maybe they are testing them right now - Think about it.

BT Sports 1, BT Sports 1 HD, BT Sports 2 and BT Sports 2 HD - that Four and DS Forum says that Virgin has been testing Four channels called 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'D' for the past week.

(This post is just views of Media Boy).

I dont think Virgin have messed up. You cannot blame them for trying to get the best price for the channel - if this is what the delay is over.

Even if they had it, do they increase the price of the XL package to cover it (which I would object to), or do they have it as an add on (seems the fairest way to me)

Either way, they are damned by some on here no matter what they do.

Said all that over a week ago,but they really are vain to expect customer to be happy to see a big selling point for xl to disappear and either a price decrease or something adequate to replace

Maybe, however, they also added several channels recently at no cost. The channels were not my cuppa tea, but some others seem to like them.

I personally look at the content Virgin deliver more than the channels in an case.

I probably would not watch BT Sport if it was included at no cost (unless there was my local team on it), but I did enjoy watching the old Prem Plus channel when we had it

I would expect Virgin to get the best price for themselves, up until the launch which is now. If they still haven't done a deal today I would expect them just to accept that they lost, and immediately agree to whatever terms BT are offering. And bring it to the network in some form weather XL, VIP or Sub. So that people can watch the Premier League. Nobody in the country should be denied access to it from whatever tv provider they have. The Premier League is the pride of the country.

VM in the final analysis is a business and would only just accept to lose if the sums gave them no option i.e. the potential loss in revenue was greater than the costs of accepting the offered contract.

IMHO if the Premier League is the pride of the country then God help us all.

If Virgin did this, then they would not be in business very long

Then god help us all because no English product comes close to the popularity of the Premier League either here or abroad. That's just the facts.

Yes if they accepted 1 deal for 1 channel which is a small drop in the ocean for the billions and billions they juggle it would put them out of business. do me a favour.

Ok, to the point and no peeing about here - what the deal probably entails is that VM cannot announce the deal with BT Sport until the last possible moment as BT want to maximise people moving to BT Infinity broadband for as long as possible; in that respect we might not hear anything until tomorrow evening or even not at all - we might just find the BT channels on our V/V+/TiVo boxes on Thursday :)

I must say I don't really buy this 'deal done, but no announcement, so more people switch to BT' line.

Why would VM go along with something that encourages customers to leave, even in the short term? Would a collusive agreement like that (to actively mislead customers) be legal under competition and/or consumer law?

And how would customers react if, having been told by BT the channels won't be on Virgin, they switch to BT on Wednesday only to find them popping up on VM on Thursday? I know all the telcos have been told off by the ASA at one time or another, but that is surely pushing the limits...

I suspect each side is holding out till the last minute for the 'best' commercial deal; at the end of the day VM 'need' BT Sports to keep customers happy, and BT 'need' the income to offset some of the costs of the rights they have purchased. Otherwise, it is a very, very, very expensive way for BT to promote their broadband service.
