Thankfully,where I work, the boss is quite hot on following established procedures. As such, we are all ITIL trained and almost *nothing* gets changed without a properly reviewed and approved RFC. It may seem bureaucratic, but we rely on our IT infrastructure. If any aspect of it is changed and that causes problems, the Faculty may be left unable to function. If someone makes a minor change or emergency change (such as rebooting a server), we can submit the RFC after the event. But if someone upgraded the kernel on one of the servers without an approved RFC in place and outside our approved maintenance windows, I suspect within an hour, they'd be looking for a new job. |
