Quote:

Trainer Nicky Henderson expects the final decision over Sprinter Sacre's participation in the BetVictor Queen Mother Champion Chase to be made within the next 10 days.

Henderson has endured a torrid time this season with the current champion, who lost his unbeaten record over fences when he pulled up at Kempton over Christmas with an irregular heartbeat.

Nicholls happy with star duo

Paul Nicholls' two big Cheltenham hopes Silviniaco Conti and Big Buck's enjoyed "a good day out" as the pair took another step in their preparations with a post-race gallop at Exeter.

The trainer had a smile on his face as he watched his star names complete a circuit of the Devon course together and pass the post in synchrony

Dovecote stroll for Irving.

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:

Paul Nicholls offered the opinion before the Sky Bet Dovecote Novices' Hurdle at Kempton that he did not have much to go with Irving at home - and so it proved in the race itself.

Amore Alato opened an early advantage as he bowled along keenly, but Nick Scholfield and Irving were always moving ominously well and were spotted cruising coming to two from home.

Impressive Vic books Festival trip.

Willie Mullins further strengthened his formidable hand for the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham next month as Killultagh Vic produced a scintillating display at Naas.

The 2-1 chance appeared to have his work cut out to follow up a recent course win as he faced Tony Martin's 4-6 favourite Golantilla, making his first appearance since finishing third in last year's Champion Bumper.

Sacre sent 'back to the garage'

Nicky Henderson will give Sprinter Sacre a "full MOT" after the Seven Barrows trainer ran out of time to get him right for the Cheltenham Festival next month.

The two-mile king was dramatically pulled up at Kempton on December 27, where he was quickly diagnosed as suffering from an irregular heartbeat.

Top jockey retires to focus on training.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/horse-racing/26334085

Quote:

Top Irish jockey Johnny Murtagh has announced he is to retire from riding to concentrate on his training career.

The 43-year-old has won three Derbys, four Irish Derbys and five Ascot Gold Cups since landing his first winner, Chicago Style, at Limerick in 1987.

"The training side of things is getting bigger all the time and I wasn't happy giving the riding 50% and the training 50%," said Murtagh.

"It's the right time to call it a day and put everything into the training."
Lets hope he is just as successful as he was at horse riding.

Aidan O'Brien has described Johnny Murtagh as a "wonderful rider" following the jockey's retirement from the saddle.

Murtagh, who will now focus on his fledgling training career, spent three seasons as stable jockey to Aidan O'Brien's powerful Ballydoyle operation between 2008 and 2010, riding numerous Group One winners.

Henderson wary of Gold-en duo.

Quote:

Nicky Henderson has pinpointed Silviniaco Conti and Last Instalment as dangers to Bobs Worth when his star bids to retain his Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup crown next month.

The nine-year-old, who is unbeaten in five visits to Prestbury Park, left behind a very disappointing reappearance in the Betfair Chase by collecting the Lexus Chase over Christmas.

Scott grounded over Melodic claims

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Wed

Quote:

Jeremy Scott is trying not to get too excited about the claims of Melodic Rendezvous in the Stan James Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham on Tuesday week.

The Somerset handler was last season forced to rule his stable star out of the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the 11th hour and is attempting to keep a lid on his emotions.

Quevega tops Mares' entries.

Quote:

Quevega remains on course to bid for an historic sixth consecutive victory in the OLBG Mares' Hurdle at Cheltenham after starring among 24 entries for the Grade Two contest.

The Willie Mullins-trained superstar is likely to be a red-hot favourite to raise the roof at Prestbury Park on the opening day of the Festival as although her unbeaten stable companion Annie Power has been entered, she is expected to line up in either the Champion Hurdle or the World Hurdle.

Ihtimal impresses in Oaks win

Leading Classic hope Ihtimal predictably proved far too good for her opponents as she produced a scintillating display in the UAE Oaks at Meydan.

Saeed bin Suroor's Godolphin filly showed her class in Britain as a juvenile, claiming the Sweet Solera at Newmarket and the May Hill Stakes at Doncaster before finishing third behind the ill-fated Chriselliam in the Fillies' Mile.
