Been snowing here pretty much since 8pm last night. It settled overnight and as it's about +2 it's just big wet flakes with very little settling. If it drops to about zero it will settle more and probably will become a problem tomorrow.

It's lovely up here tonight: Gails, sleet, massive hailstones.

We had to cancel a gig up in t'depths of Lancashire this evening due to everyone falling off the road as it's even worse up there.

Still here I'm afraid, but I did have fun watching people trying to get out their driveway this morning with their wheels spinning then giving up. When I say people I mean my neighbour :) I know that's bad but it was fun to watch.

Why do people forget how to drive in snow?

I have never lost control of my car in snow/ice, and I've driven in front, rear & four wheel drive cars.

They never learned.

It's amazing how many people think that the conditions that prevailed on the day they passed their test, and the characteristics of the car they were driving at the time, are the only thing they ever need to know.

(When we had a Zafira I was forever pointing out to Mrs T that a large, diesel-engined car with a six speed gearbox could not be expected to perform the same way as a five-speed, petrol Nissan Micra, and should not be driven as if it was one).

We see some right clowns along the road here, which is a long, remote, rural access route that only gets gritted if icy weather lasts more than a couple of days. The poor farmers are forever replacing stretches of fence where cars have just slid off the road.

Some numpty crashed his car on the M11/A120 road, which meant I had to go cross country to get to work.

Personally people who crash in bad weather should be done for driving without due care, and those that don't clean their car of snow.

Side note: Why can't drivers let you turn right when you are at a junction, are they scared you might be wanting to go left.
