Well there may be something wrong with it. I wanted to see the Spurs game recently, it was on the Red button, but it wasn't on VM

Sky don't make all Red Button events to VM. If you press the red button when no event is broadcasting, it'll show the you upcoming ones (though Sky are still prone to change the schedule at short notice)
