Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Well done indeed but also note Real Madrid overcame a 2 goal deficit to beat Wolfsburg 3-2 on aggregate. Cristiano Ronaldo Hat-trick. An absolute God of a player. 93 champions league goals, 93... That's just madness, phenomenonal. Henry, 50 goals in 112 games, Ronaldo with 93 at 125 games. There's not many words to describe that. We're simply in the era of the greatest two players to ever play this game. I don't care what anyone says. I live by the evolution of football. Legends can be legends of their own time and there'll come a day when there's a set of players better than Messi and Ronaldo but again we have to go where the game takes us and with that being said, the likes of Pele and Maradona aren't even on the same planet as these two.

Without Ronaldo where would Real Madrid be?.

adzii_nufc 12-04-2016 22:50

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

They're individual players at Madrid but honestly. I think you could send Ronaldo to Stoke and he'd still score a bucket load of goals for fun. My only regret is that he isn't still in England.

Anyway City have rescued what dignity the English teams still have in regards to Europe.

Playing squash so didn't see much of the first half, fairly even by all accounts but I thought United battered West Ham for the first 20 minutes of the second half, thankfully they got a stuffy goal from Fellaini which made the difference when the expected Alladyce style, bombardment came.

---------- Post added at 22:52 ---------- Previous post was at 21:12 ----------

Just applied for a semi final ticket, United have an allocation of 31,600. Now I know that every man and his dog with FA membership or whatever gets Cup Final tickets but why give United and I assume Everton a third of the tickets for a semi final?

Wheels coming off big time at Anfield. :(

denphone 14-04-2016 21:22

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

That's why we are 9th in the league as there are still too many average players who might have one good game and two bad games as in my opinion there is still significant work to be done as we both know only too well.

adzii_nufc 14-04-2016 21:28

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

I don't think the wheels came off, I think Dortmund are just in a competition way below them. They just had a poor previous season to end up in this cup. They'd beat Chelsea, United, Arsenal and any other big English club to be fair. They already obliterated Spurs and are quickly flattening Liverpool. Then again, Liverpool and 3 goals etc, just don't see that here :/

You just had to score that. essentially 3-0 down. Origi

denphone 14-04-2016 21:32

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Spurs played a very weakened side against them so l don't think you should read too much into that affair and Liverpool are a average side currently so l don't think we should overrate them.

adzii_nufc 14-04-2016 21:37

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Well let's not compare them on quality vs money spent over the last 5 years then otherwise we'll really start embarrassing Liverpool :p:
This coming from the supporter of the highest spending club to ever be relegated over a season (I think it's a foregone conclusion)
Anyone not seeing the third goal coming? I can see Liverpool scoring but they are getting turned over by Dortmund every time they launch an attack. In the wise words of Owen, the team that scores the most goals will win <

denphone 14-04-2016 21:48

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Dortmund will score 5 tonight in my opinion as what stops some of our sides in Europe is not what you do with the ball but what you do without the ball and Liverpool players without the ball are what l would call tactical amateurs as look at Leicester who did not spend that much money but why they are top is they work so hard as a tactical cohesive unit and do the right things when they have not go the ball as we have seen.

1 more goal please. Absolute travesty if Liverpool go out having never lost either game. That rule really is backwards.

Newcastle United are alive. As it stands, beating Manchester City by 3 goals would lead Newcastle to safety. That being said, a 3-0 win against Swansea would make that such a lot less of an ask. No one besides Aston Villa is just rolling over. :erm:

Newcastle and Sunderland both win 3-0 leaving Newcastle the chance to leave the drop zone with any form of win over City. this is ridiculous. Not that it mattered because it was certain they were down bar some cricket scores but Villa are now relegated.

Very poor game at OT today, a few changes made to rest people but typical of United's season , playing badly against the lower clubs.

The criteria for the ballot was attendance at all home cup games in any competition. There have been 10 cup games this season and I only missed the Capital One Cup game against Ipswich Town due to being in Cornwall for a family wedding. :)

If they play the same way next Saturday they will get turned over by Everton, Fellaini was reasonable against West Ham but was abysmal today. Hopefully he will get sent off or injured against Palace on Wednesday.

Another classy touch from United, due to late kick off times and possible ET and pens most fans would not be able to make the last train. United are putting free, return coaches on from Old Trafford to Wembley on the day.

One of my brothers lives in Woking so I will be going down on Thursday afternoon to spend a couple of days with him before returning Sunday lunchtime. Just a real pity I can't get him a ticket. :(

I didn't think fellani was reasonable against the hammers, he looked like the worst player on the park to me, a bit of a headless chicken, a scrappy goal didn't change that imo

It should never have happened, the owner and the incompetents he put in charge should hang their heads in shame, all those cretins that thought putting Garde in charge, signing bang average foreign dross that doesn't give a toss about the club

How's he got so bad, he looked class at Everton. Now his second touch is a header, he can't pass and his tackling is average at best from what I've seen of him

denphone 17-04-2016 08:17

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

l was not a lover of Garde but the malaise of the club started before that in my view and his appointment just made a club which was already on the down spiral even more downhill sadly.

To be honest TD there is plenty of British dross at the club as well in my opinion and l think they will struggle even in the Championship unless the next manager they pick is of a good standard.

TheDaddy 17-04-2016 08:28

Leicester's second goal was certainly not a penalty in my opinion as the one before in the area was more obvious so he got both them wrong for starters.

A matter of opinion of course, but if either of those fouls, especially the one by Carroll had taken place in the middle of the field then a free kick would have been awarded nine times out of ten, IMHO of course.;)

Oh what an end of season we are going to have. I believe it will go right to the wire.

I strongly believe that Arsenal have to sack Wenger. They are going to end up with nothing this season. And they got booed off again.

I watched all the games today, and Yes, Vardy deserved to walk. He was only sent off for the second yellow.

And he cannot challenge the decision either. Some clubs get the Red taken away.

Now he misses Three games.

denphone 17-04-2016 20:57

No Vardy is suspended for one game as it was two yellows which was followed by the red card thus its a one match suspension Arthur.

I wonder why Andy Carroll was cleared of any wrongdoing? The way his eyes never leave the ball or the way Vidic comes in with his shoulder thus sending him into De Gea. Some things you just have to forget and move on. I remember a time a certain Ashley Young deceived team after team and completely robbed them blind without punishment.

Anyway: Barcelona meltdown continues as they go 2-0 down to Valencia and open up a three horse race for the title. Madrid chasing a League and Champions League now, make that both Madrid's. Messi missing.

I've heard several sources stating that SAF is warming to the idea (or at least, becoming less frosty) of Mourinho now. They seem to indicate it was partially based on SAF being so stubbornly 'old school' when it comes to club management in terms of being prudent and avoiding knee-jerk 'Galactico' signings.

In terms of the future I'm not sure Mourinho will still be there in the 5 to 10+ year bracket but for re-stabilising the club and bringing in better players (which I think LVG only achieved with Martial). I believe he's the only man for the job now. I love the idea of Giggs as manager as nobody out there knows United better but he's too unproven right now and I'd worry he'd end up like Brian Clough at Forest or Dalglish at Liverpool - being allowed far too many chances due to strong sentiment.

A driver who never whose eyes never leave his phone as he drives into a wall is at fault and should be fully aware of his surroundings, Carroll wasn't in an empty field, he knew exactly what he was doing. I fully agree that Ashley Youngs' past diving was pathetic but the only injury he risked was to himself. Carrolls' brutal assault that day could quite easily have been career ending or even worse.

A bit disappointed with the game at OT today. For perhaps the first time this season I attended a game that I expected United to win, don't ask me why.

With 70% possession and more than 20 goal attempts they really should have done. Bad luck but mainly poor finishing cost them in the end.:(

My grump today is against the Premier league and TV companies who don't care two hoots about helping our sides prepare for crucial European matches.:(

Back from the match.

Cracking atmosphere and one of the "big" sides spanked.

Millions of pounds of man city talent outplayed by the super Saints. :D

Yes nice to see them return to the promised land but will it be Middlesbrough or Brighton who will follow them into the PL?.

l am certainly not anti Spurs but the behaviour shown in the second half by both teams was a disgrace to the Premiership and the referee just could not cope with the nastiness and bitterness that was deeply prevalent in the second half by both teams and l hope the FA throw the book at them both..:td::(
