He doesn't need a home network to use remote record, it works without that.

The TV Anywhere app works without the TiVo being connected to your home network. You can view the TV guide, remote record, etc, the only thing you can't do if it's not connected to your home network is use your phone, tablet, etc as a remote control for the TiVo.

You will always get a warning when you go into the app that certain functions (i.e. the remote control) are not available until you connect to your home network.

If you want to connect your TiVo to you home network, have a look here - http://help.virginmedia.com/system/s...MER_TYPE=Cable

good evening friends

does anyone know any good deals calling VM up at the moment the any offers? my best friend is coming at the end of his offer with BT sports and the XL package. £66 at the moment with 30MB broadband, XL phone and basic phone? is this the same at the moment or do we have cannon in our fodder?

Swiss youth channel Joiz coming to the UK and in talks with partners

A future channel launch?

Quote:

BroadbandTVNews "The UK has the highest priority for us,” Swiss newspaper Schweiz am Sonntag quotes Alexander Mazzara, CEO and founder of joiz. Talks with potential partners have already taken place.

Joiz website: http://joiz.com/

Interestingly, Joiz went to to court in 2012 and got the Swiss courts to insist that UPC carried its channel. Maybe relationships between Liberty and Joiz have improved since then!

All you can do is talk to them Vince. I spoke to retentions three times last month, and wasn't happy with what they offered. I gave a months notice and got a call from another department two days later. After turning down their first two offers I took a deal which gives me 50mb broadband, basic phone, XL TV and sports and movies in HD for £75 a month. I pay the line rental in advance, so it's really £60 a month for a year. The line rental was still £120 when I paid but that will be £144 when I renew in December. It pays to talk.

Its ok for new channel launches - but are those idiots who run VM, going to please the subscriber, by placing them on the sytem.

I doubt that very much. At the end of the day, we the subscriber pays for the channels. So why dont VM let us decide.

Ah i just kind of assumed that it was on my home network wirelessly. Seems weird to me that the box does not know it is on my home network if it is not plugged into the router. I have just tried the remote record and it worked. When i first got the app i was getting an error so thought it was due to me not being connected.

Does anybody know if i can set recordings when abroad?

You should be able to set recordings from anywhere you have a data connection.

I just wanted to post to say I just had a very positive experience with VirginMedia customer services, after being a customer since 1997 I was contemplating leaving or cutting back but the very helpful chap on the phone gave me a great price on the package I was on, doubled by BB speed and gave me a code for 6 months free netflix. Can't really say fairer then that.

I'd have to echo that. We've just had to book an engineer visit. The wife phoned - she usually does as the account is in her name - and when she got off the phone she said she always likes their customer service, they're always friendly and helpful.

It's probably just me but I'm confused what this particular rant is about. Is it a request to be able to delete channels from the EPG or a demand that he decides which channels VM may buy, regardless of how much VM will be charged for those channels?

If VM don't have the channels on the 'system' how can customers be paying for them?

Also I'd hardly say they are idiots. Bit harsh. Did you not see the thread linkingto an article showing how the VM network works. Its vey complicated and takes many people a lot of time to run.

The question is, Arthur, are you prepared to pay extra for these channels that you may not even watch? VM are trying to get good value for money for their customers. If you just want any channel that's going, no matter what, maybe Sky would be the solution for you.

Unfortunately, I gather that you also have issues with Sky.

Maybe the last UK Wide channel launch but "That's Solent" in some Southampton areas only and "That's Oxford" in some Oxford areas only are both set to launch on Virgin Channel 159 before 2015.

Cant wait to see where both ITV and Virgin Media will put ITV Be from October 8th as LG now own about 7% of ITV.

LGI's small stake in ITV plc won't affect the location of ITV Be in VM's EPG - it's a small investment stake so such matters would be negotiated in the usual way. I expect it to be quite prominent as it will be a popular channel.

I reckon that it will indeed be very popular with vast swathes of viewers. It certainly won't be popular with me though. Sounds like they are just gonna show worthless drivel (made by talentless hacks - especially the script/story writers) about the lives of even more talentless hacks.

Still, I hope others enjoy it, goodness knows I like a lot of stuff others do not.

A difficult prediction to make for a situation that could easily change if a "must have" channel is launched by a major broadcaster.

ITV will, no doubt, be looking at how well ITV Encore fairs in the pay tv market. If it is a success, they will probably be further pay-only channels. They are probably locked in a market research phase at the moment and will also have to examine how ITV Be performs and how they can further differentiate their FTA channels.

If you think ITV Be will be a popular channel. Where do you think Virgin will put it?

A)
116. ITV Be
174. ITV2 +1
175. ITV3 +1
205. ITV4 +1

B)
119. ITV Be

C)
205. ITV Be

Media Boy HQ is going with C.

Who cares where they put it, if I want to watch the channel I'll be able to find it no matter where they put it. There is too much fuss about where channels are put in the tv guide.

I did wonder if it might be on the infamous 245 channel which we thought truTV might get. ;) I'm not sure where it will go but will guess B) 119. There's probably a Be+1 channel to factor in as well.

You might but the EPG number heavily influences viewing patterns - people stop channel surfing when they see something they like hence lower numbers are more valuable.

Broadcast: Good News, Bad News for Channel 5.

It is understood the Viacom/Channel 5 deal will be finalised by 20 September, giving the US media giant – which operates MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon – full control of the public service broadcaster.

However, existing MTV commissions will not end up on C5 once the deal is closed. Viacom-operated channels have exclusivity agreements in place with pay-TV broadcaster Sky over original content, which means shows such as Ex On The Beach and Geordie Shore are unlikely to move to the free-to-air network in the near future.

Media Boy HQ also thinks with Arqiva offering new capacity to launch new TV services via Freeview we think one of the slots will come from VIVA with VIVA moving to Channel 5 + 24 slot on Freeview from mid-November 2014.

I hope that the Viacom takeover will improve programming on Channel 5, but to be honest, I'm not holding my breath!

ITV will, no doubt, be looking at how well ITV Encore fairs in the pay tv market. If it is a success, they will probably be further pay-only channels. They are probably locked in a market research phase at the moment and will also have to examine how ITV Be performs and how they can further differentiate their FTA channels.

I agree. ITV appear to be aiming at having a bouquet of subscription channels in the not so far off future, and this may include ITV2, 3 and 4. I certainly would not rule out an ITV Movie channel, although this is likely to show only films over 2 years old due to exclusivity rights.

All non Sky Movies (Sony, Film4 and TCM) do the same.

To the broadcast companies, yes, but surely not to the highly intelligent people who post on here and are therefore more than capable of finding the show/channel they want to watch :D

BBC 1 HD is 101, BBC 2 HD 102 ect with the SD channels higher up the EPG can't be long till VM finally swap the channels round?

I think the agent is taking liberties with the truth there Dot. They aren't even halfway through their 3 year deal with VM so none of the CS agents (and maybe not even the management at this stage) will know what the future holds at the end of the current deal.

Plus there is no way either Sky or BT would allow their channels to be sold together as a package as they are rivals.

I think this is part of a software update to the platform that is being rolled out.

There are other things, including a rip-off of the TiVo Suggestions function.

If they could get away with it, I'm sure that Sky would want this. They could then say that all the games are available in the 'Sky Sports Selection'. Also, anyone not on XL TV wanting BT Sport would have to subscribe to Sky Sports in order to receive it.

Are there any technical reason/s why you don't think that VM should follow Sky on this initiative (or is it just personal preference)?

1) It's not currently implemented in VM software. There isn't any great technical difficulty in implementing it, but we're trying to avoid any software changes to the Liberate boxes. So we'd have an inconsistent user experience where some boxes have the swap and some don't.

2) How can you promote channels if you don't know what channel number to promote?

3) If users choose to swap, they have to learn a whole new set of numbers. For what benefit?

4) How can VM provide support if customers don't know which channel they are watching? You can guarantee one family member will swap the channels, confusing everybody else.

(And I'm ignoring the issues of local channels - I find it very hard to believe Sky are swapping these)

I'm basing this on you having basic phone and 50mb broadband with tv m+ would be £45.99 + £27 for skysports collection = £72.99 this isn't including any offers you have and does not include any price rises.

Just a heads up for you guys....

I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but if you have the Sky Sports channels in HD on Virgin then you can watch Sky Sports News in HD on Sky Sports 5 HD on Channel 516 from 6am - 9am daily. But today it's on until midnight! Probably for Deadline Day.

So at least you can get a taster of what Sky Sports News HD will look like when it's finally launched. :D

My irritatation is why do we have to see these gormless publicity seekers behind the reporter when we are getting reports from each Premier League ground on SSN.:td::(

It looks fantastic in HD.

I remember getting shot down on here with people saying what do you need news and sports news in HD for , its pretty simple the graphics and on screen info is far clearer and the whole thing looks far better in comparison the SD version is terrible.

I would think in the long run this is probably better, you will most likely get new features when Sky customers get them instead of having to wait for Virgin to implement them.

It would be nice if we had HD for all channels regardless of if its a news or sports channel. The picture quality on some SD channels is pretty bad. HD channels will improve the viewing experience on VM for all customers.

Obviously costs and other aspects could restrict which channels are broadcast in HD at the moment.

You may have got your wish Den, especially after last nights antics behind the SSNHQHD reporters. I'll be surprised if they allow people behind the reporters ever again

PS. That recent channel name change has turned into the longest acronym going :erm:

It was embarressing watching those people who thought they were funny.
Purposely acting weird or being offensive in front of the camera is not funny at all...

Although I did laugh when the comedian bloke came on at QPR and said he had signed for them "Mum, this season I'm in the premier league and next season I'll be in the Championship"...they did make me chuckle. The missus didn't get it though :D

I wonder if this is for the FTA part-time channel which will broadcast those free Champions League matches which BT Sport has to show as a condition of its contract? I believe there were rumours it had acquired part-time DTT capacity for this purpose as well.

No because Sky shares live rights with ITV at the moment. One game in every round of the Champions League matches is on ITV plus some Europa League matches.
Next season, BT has all the live TV rights and has promised that every participating British team will be shown free to non-subscribers at least once.

I don't know, on DTT I suspect just SD but it would make sense to have it in HD on cable on satellite for BT to showcase its coverage.
