I can now reveal:

The channel will be available to both Sky and Virgin Media customers - in both SD and HD - and will go some way to remedy the fact it will be losing Champions League football to arch rival BT Sport from 2015.

Unlike other channels that just magically appear in your EPG, if you want Sky Sports 5 (which is free to Sports subscribers) then you have to register by pressing the Red button on your Sky remote from 12 June or by going online.
:D

My own view is we may see Sky Sports News moving to after Sky Sports F1.

So it:

Sky Sports 1
Sky Sports 2
Sky Sports 3
Sky Sports 4
Sky Sports 5
Sky Sports F1
Sky Sports News

Sky Sports 5 - 505 / 515 HD
Sky Sports F1 - 506 / 516 HD
Sky Sports News

- 507 / 517 HD

Could it be like this, MB?

With the HD channels following suit in my example above.
Seems nicely laid out on the EPG, VM will probably do something completely different ;)

However Virgin do it, there will be someone moaning about how they ordered the channels. As long as it comes before the USPGA starts then I am happy enough. And it seems likely to launch well before the start of the NFL season as well, so no worries there for me.

That's the way l see it but the war between Sky and BT is now beginning in earnest as each battle each other and Virgin might just be the beneficiary of this ongoing war.

Ok, another sports channel, but really! It's probably going to be mainly for football from what I've been reading on this thread, I love my football, but do we really need another one? Getting Sky Sports 3 & 4 and Sky Sports news in HD is a great piece of business by Virgin, but imo they ain't hitting the "sweet spot" with customers! I'm fairly confident that most Virgin customers would have preferred Virgin to do a deal for SA and Encore instead of another sports channel!

The problem is Max that Sky have no intention of retailing the carriage of SA to other providers and secondly ITV have signed a exclusive deal with Sky for carriage of ITV Encore thus there is nowt Virgin can do at the moment.

I understand that Den, and that is why I said that they weren't hitting the sweet spot, so to speak. I'ts about time Virgin realised that a lot of their customers ain't very happy at missing out on decent channels, why can't Virgin do deals like Sky do? They are now owned by Liberty, a huge company, who surely must have some clout when it comes to making deals for content!

you got to remember Liberty hasn't had VM that long and done some very good deals already and hopefully be some more in not do distant future and remember the VM are in billions of debt too so sky will always have the advantage when competing for content sadly

Well, maybe they will reverse their decision to stay out of content, who knows? Co-operation with BT and sharing of costs may change things.

Just had a thought. Do BT Vision people only get Sky Sports 1 and 2?
Well then, if they do, the creation of Sky Sports 5 means removing all of the CL football from BT viewers for this season, hence they cannot watch any of it.

Clever strategy from Sky if this is the case, even though they are losing CL football at the end of this season

Not so clever if BT retaliate by denying Sky the BT channel carrying the rights in future years, though. What's the betting we will be seeing BT Sports 3 when that happens - exclusive to BT and Virgin Media? ;)

Don't Sky have to show their main CL match on SS1 and SS2 JJ?.

So Sky are effectively taking Champions League football away from BT customers, and locking in new customers for two years with free broadband, meaning that they'll still be with Sky during JR's first year of Champions League coverage?

Let Sky and BT do battle I say. There's a reason why Virgin is the only place to get everything for one subscription!

DS Forum is reporting that Sky Sports 5 will be on Sky Channel 407 (not Sky Channel 405!)

So maybe Sky may rebrand Sky Sports 5 as Sky WWE in August 2015 and move Holland football to Sky Sports 3.

Spain Football is rumoured as set to move to BT Sport from August 2015.

And Sky confirmed the launch of Sky Sports 5 in August.

All good buying Content but LG/Virgin Media do not own any Channels to put it content on.

Unless maybe adding them to 'Virgin on Demand' or putting them on Discovery channels.

4k passive 3d sets are able to show full hd 3d where before only active 3d sets could manage full hd 3d.

I was just thinking that if your existing list was prefaced by a summary, it wouldn't annoy people so much going through the whole list to work out where the changes were.

It is useful having an up to date list repeated regularly, but it is working out what has changed that is the problem IMHO. This would enable us to take note of the changes and then scroll straight on to the next post.

I think you're doing a good job of being politically correct there. BUT the elephant in the room is, we don't go through the list because there's never anything of interest in it.

What we actually have to do is scroll past it again and again despite him being asked again and again to stop doing it.

It's like someone taking a -MODEDIT- in your living room all the time.

It's good news for SKY and Virgin customers who love sport in HD. I was worried it was going to be a sham channel, tucked away via the red button, rather than a linear channel.

GinxHD isn't going to happen mate they don't have the money, they are even trying to get people to contact Sky for them to get on the Sky platform.
I don't think Ginxtv itself will last much longer, pity as it's a great channel for the gamer.

I don't see any reason why they can't just launch it on the EPG as normal without customers having to register. Maybe the reason is psychological marketing in that Sky hope that people will believe that they are getting something for nothing and it will also draw more attention to the channel

Aye, I think that we can now safely assume that this is one of Skys tactics to try to undermine competition from BT.

Been told by a VM contact that Netflix have informed them that, by the end of 2014, 100% of their material will be subtitled. This follows pressure from the deaf community who complained that, in their case, as technology moved on, they were going backwards with the omission of subtitles.

I applaud Netflix for responding so positively, after all, why should those with hearing difficulties be denied access to their service :)

I take it as VM customers, we won't have to register our interest with VM?
Will we just get the channel automatically if we subcribe to the Sports channels already?

I think the register part is just to get that Internet offer.

But we will know a Sky Sports 5 and Sky Sports 5 HD channel numbers on Virgin Media sooner than August 12th.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2

The offer conditions I think make it a poor offer, some of the conditions are

New minimum term

Line rental and Sky talk must be kept for whole term

Sky sports must be kept for whole term

Disconnection charges applicable.

It is strange however SKY have form of this. When I joined SKY I had to register to be able to watch SKY 3D, even though the channel had been up and running for almost 2 years! When taking everything into consideration, SKY are actually trying to push 2 years free broadband rather than the new channel. It's a marketing exercise.

It will probably be in exactly the same month as the last carriage agreement for ssn started, so if the last agreement started in a January, the next one will probably start in a January.

Virgin Media did confirm on Tuesday that Sky Sports 5 HD will also launch on Virgin Media - no info on UPC Ireland or TalkTalk.

Base on info I have seen the rest of the missing Sky Sports HD Channels will be with us sometime after the world cup but by August.
