Mine has now also updating after turning it off again.

Re: The Xbox One Thread
Rather than reducing digital prices MS have increased some prices from £44.99 to £49.99! Not a good sign at all, we would have to be a mug to buy digital games!
Forza 5, Ryse and Dead Rising 3 all increased. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Oops i was meant to say hasnt updated but oh well i guess they are now rolling update out so ill check mine in morning and see if its done. I have read the details of the update and i wonder if it fixes the Hz issue.
I agree its silly of MS to increase the prices |

Has the update inproved it in anyway way do people think? Impressions on the update and the process
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I've just updated mine.
As I use Energy Saving mode, I had to first set it to use Instant On instead, as consoles set to Energy Saving mode do not get updates until they become mandatory (which for this one is tomorrow morning). Once I shut it down after setting it to Instant On, the power light on the front of the console flashed for a couple of minutes as it downloaded the update, before the whole thing then fully powered down in the same way as when using Energy Saving mode (Kinect off totally, amber light on the PSU). I then turned it back on, and it applied the update. Fairly smooth, but I've not used it enough since to be able to notice any differences in the system - I just changed it back to Energy Saving and turned it back off. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I've set mine to turn off so it can update, console is still running, nothing on the TV, but kinect keeps going on and off. Hope I haven't bricked it. Scratch that, it's up and running, but I haven't got the update
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread
You have to set it to instant on then turn it off with voice, wait a few mins then turn it on again using the button on the console.
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Ok I'll try that. On another note the consoles fan seems rather loud. I take it this isn't normal
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread

Re: The Xbox One Thread
You don't need to turn it off with voice, you can just use the controller in the exact same way as with a 360.
Make sure it is set to Instant On and not Energy Saving. Turn it off. The power supply light will stay white. Shortly after you turn the console off it should start downloading the update. You will know this is happening because of the Xbox button on the front of the console flashing white. Once the download has finished and the front button has stopped flashing, the console will fully shut itself down and the power supply light will go from white to amber. At this point, you can then turn it back on using the controller or the front button, and wait for the update to be applied... there will be a progress bar, and after that it will be a standard slow boot like when turning it on from Energy Saving mode. It takes a few minutes, so don't worry. Wayne, are you sure it is the console that is loud and not the power supply? |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Nope it's the console, been on to the chat, and they've suggested a replacement

Re: The Xbox One Thread
Oh dear :(
I hope you have the money for the advance replacement programme, otherwise you'll have to send yours off to Prague first and then wait for a replacement to be sent to you once they receive the original. You don't need to spend money for the advance replacement, but you need enough available money on a card for them to place a temporary "hold" for the cost of the replacement, to prevent you just keeping both consoles. Once they get the original back, they remove the "hold". An alternative would be to get a replacement (or refund) from the retailer, using your statutory rights as a consumer under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended). But the problem with that is that the retailer probably won't have stock for a replacement! |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I've got the money in the account, so it's not a problem. Just received an email from Support. I'll get the replacement within two working days :)

Re: The Xbox One Thread
Ok so this is strange. I turned on console about 12:30 this morning then off and it looked like it was downloading update. I turned it on this morning via controller and didn't work so turned on via front. It did a full boot as in it had green logo and took longer. I go to OS info and it shows it's 6.2.10210.0(xb_rel_launch 131118-1159). Update should put it on 6.2.10217.0 (xb_rel_launch.131205-2200). Any one with an idea what's happened? I have restarted and it's still same

Re: The Xbox One Thread
Phone up and complain. You should not have been charged extra tax on top.
I did some Googling, and found someone charged 23% tax by MS for Office, because of being outside Ireland but in the EU: http://www.microsoft.com/en-cb/offic...D0EBAAAACAAAAA Your case *must* be a screw-up on the part of MS. I *only* paid £59.99, via the phone (as the website refused to work). There is no mention on the website of the price being £59.99 excluding VAT / sales tax, and no mention in the policy terms of the price quoted not including tax. |

Re: The Xbox One Thread
Bf4 patch released today
Fixed three common crashes that could occur during map transitions. Fixed a common crash that could occur when using the in-game Battlelog in the "end of round" screen. Fixed two crashes related to destroying vehicles. Fixed a crash that could occur when the player lost connection to a server. Fixed a crash that could occur when using the scoreboard. Fixed a crash that could occur when players were using the voice chat. Optimized performance when shooting destroyed Levolution objects on some levels. Removed the blur effect on soldiers that appeared when Commanders were using EMP attacks. Fixed the "one-hit kill" bug where damage from a single bullet sometimes was applied multiple times. This could lead to firefights where normal rifles sometimes dealt one-shot kills, which is not as designed. Fixed a memory leak that could lead to crashes at certain points. Further reduced the probability of getting a corrupt save file in the single player campaign. Fixed the audio drop outs that could occur when playing on large maps. Typical map affected was Golmud Railway in Conquest with 64 players. Ambient sound would sometimes cut out, like foley sounds from player running, vehicle engine sounds, vehicle movement sounds, and map ambient sounds. Fixed an issue with going online after resuming your Xbox One from suspended mode. Fixed some issues with the handling of Xbox One parties. Made the icons used to signal voice chat status more reliable. |

It sounded like a standard off-shore call centre to me. I'm not sure if you should phone that or Support, though, in your case, as you didn't buy via the Store. One of the many examples of Microsoft's stupidity is that its systems are not linked: Because I bought MS Complete from the MS Store via the phone, the extended warranty does not show up if I visit the service website (myservice.xbox.com), all the service site shows for me is the standard warranty. I do have the extended warranty, but cannot make use of it via the service website as it does not know I have it  Contrast that with Apple...I bought my iPad and iMac from the Apple Online Store and my iPhone from the local Apple Retail Store. All three have Apple Care, purchased via the Retail Store for the iPhone, the Online Store for the iPad, and the Amazon Marketplace for the iMac. All three devices are listed on my Apple support profile on the Apple website, and all three have the correct warranty information listed even though the devices and extended warranties were bought from different parts of Apple (with one extended warranty not even purchased via Apple at all). |

Re: The Xbox One Thread
They're already talking Battlefield 5.. EA are an unbelievable company. They really are the Ryanair of games. It seems Battlefield is joining the ranks beside FIFA in becoming the bug filled lazy release on a yearly basis. I've heard the argument that EA simply publish the game. EA own DICE, bare that in mind.
I just don't get it, they're constantly voted the worst company in the world, they were one of the first to lead the way with regards to online passes, they put a micro-transaction on pretty much anything they can. They lead the way with 'Day One' DLC which is finished months before the games release and can adequately fit on the provided media. I'm not a die hard BF fan by any means but for me this isn't a surprise at all, I've played FIFA since the 90's and ever since FIFA 08 the game has been destroyed each year with bugs. I mean there's a bug in FIFA 14 that's been around since FIFA 11 for heavens sake. They had an issue in which anyone on a Netgear router couldn't play online and it took them an entire year to fix it after spending the best part of 11 months blaming people's ISP's. I'm not saying they won't completely fix Battlefield 4 but you should expect the worst, bad things happen when EA push for yearly releases. As with FIFA you'll typically get a response along the lines of ''We've fixed it for BF5'' Quote:
I love the reviews though, especially the ones they've paid for. Polygon later hammered them for the Multi-Player aspect but typically IGN and co are still on the EA payroll. I only wish you all could just play Arma III with me instead. I also have an interesting XB1 and PS4 related post I'll stick up later regarding upcoming stuff at E3 2014 and the possibilities but I'll let someone cover up this post first instead of having a merged post. |

Re: The Xbox One Thread
I think the OS update has brought us a feature that was in beta. I have not seen this working for me before the update and other day it worked. If you are playing a game lets say Forza you pause it while in a race or a menu etc and then turn off the console. When you turn it back on again and sign in you star the last game you played in this case Forza and guess what it carries on from where you praised it. No loading, no starting again. I have also tried this with FIFA and same thing.
Goto settings, power and startup and choose 'Resume game quickly (beta)'. Also make sure your console is set to 'Instant on' Try it out and see if works for you. I have also captured 2 videos of this as well |

* Goto Free Play * Choose Indy GP circut - Make sure its the Oval version * Set race to 50 Laps * Choose the Lotus F1 one (Indy cars may work but not tried) * Turn all assists off (I only had auto gears on) * Set Drivatar difficulty to unbeatable * Tune the F1 car to max so it gets about 210mph e.g. change the gear ration and the take make all down force low * Start the race and enjoy As long as you win and end up first i believe its 200k for the win. It took me about 38 mins yesterday, i came 3rd and got 104k. I didnt change some of the car settings thats why i didnt win |

Re: The Xbox One Thread
I played BF4 for a fair while last night and it seems a hell of a lot better than before. It seems the latest Xbox One patch for it has actually done something.
I was able to get into a server every time I hit Quick Match > Conquest, instead of it repeatedly failing. I only had a single crash-to-dash the whole night, which was during an actual round. When I reloaded the game it did something I don't remember it doing before and automatically took me back to the game/server I was in before the crash as soon as I reloaded, instead of making me have to go through the menus and repeatedly attempt to join another game. Quote:

Re: The Xbox One Thread
I've seen some people post shortlinks for SkyDrive instead of those horrible long links.
It seems that only the web version of SkyDrive can create shortlinks. If you use the mobile app it only generates a long and stupid looking link. But... the shortlinks are powered by Bit.ly. So, if you've got a nasty long link from the SkyDrive mobile app, you can just stick it in Bit.ly yourself to generate a sdrv.ms link. ------- A few BF4 clips. Nothing remotely fancy, I just like saving headshots and stabbings. My first melee counter: http://sdrv.ms/JZiXj6 Marksman on a beach: http://sdrv.ms/JZj5it Train gunner headshot: http://sdrv.ms/1kzVGBT Lucky Marksman on Golmud: http://sdrv.ms/1cNziOc The only reason I got a headshot on that last one was because the guy went prone just as I fired, and because of the bullet drop it hit him in the head :D |
Re: The Xbox One Thread

Because I felt that I was getting nowhere with the PSU issue, I wrote an email and sent it to 10 different email addresses, hoping one of them belonged to Phil Spencer at Microsoft. I used different combinations of his initials/names. 8 of the emails bounced back as undeliverable, but 2 of them didn't and a couple of days later I got a personal reply from him, lol. Once he got involved, of course the level of customer support I received changed dramatically and things got sorted out at no cost to me (and I got a free game too). I didn't want to mention it on the forums there because it would just annoy people who are still trying to get replacement parts without having to pay to ship things to Prague. I did manage to get a refund for that Thors Smeg guy who had paid over £90 to ship his console to Prague though and MS said that they are currently discussing how to improve support for people in the UK. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Ah! :)
It's a shame you had to go to such lengths to actually get any support, though :( I've still not bothered contacting support about my PSU. I was going to wait until the new year and see if things have improved regarding support. There's no way I'm paying £60 to ship it to Prague, and then going weeks without being able to use my console while I wait for a replacement. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
What was wrong with yours again? Noisy?
I actually have 5 Xbox One PSUs now. The initial PSU made a ticking noise. The first replacement made a loud buzzing noise and was worse than the first overall. The next one also ticked. MS insisted to me that the PSU shouldn't be making such noises, so I asked them to properly check the next one before it was sent. 2 days later I received it and it was fine, but then a day after that I received yet another one, lol. It's definitely a lottery. The one good one I have is spot on as far as noise is concerned and when the console is off (in the "instant on" mode) I can no longer hear the PSU, but I could with all of the others due to either ticking, buzzing or both. I remember having a problem with an Xbox 360 PSU several years ago and when they replaced that, I had to send it to somewhere in the UK. Considering the UK is the most popular place in Europe for Xbox consoles, you would think they'd still have a repair centre here. |

Yep, noisy. Not noticeable when the volume is high, but if the console is simply sitting on the dash, or a film/game is in a quiet part, then it's quite noticeable... I soon gave up on using Instant On mode because it meant the PSU was making the noise 24/7, which was very annoying! The whole Prague thing is a joke. Why should customers have to pay to ship faulty items under warranty? £60ish for a PSU going by posts at Xbox.com, and IIRC it was £30 or £40 for a controller. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I gave up on The Gadget Show ages ago. It seemed to get more over the top, while being more dumbed down at the same time. "This week we're going to test a rugged laptop........ by blowing it up with a hand grenade!". I prefer the tech shows on TWIT.
And yeah, the Prague thing is a massive pain. I'm hoping that what I was told is true and that they will find a better way of dealing with these issues for UK customers, but I'll believe it when I see it. Fingers crossed, I have no further issues with my console now. |

Halo: Spartan Assault is out for Xbox One, for £11.99 in the Store.
Also out now is Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, £11.99 in the Store. It's a reboot of the earlier Wii game Max and the Magic Marker. I've not seen any reviews yet for the X1 version of Spartan Assault, but the Windows version was received quite well. From what I've read, it was praised for its graphics, gameplay, and Halo look & feel, with the main negatives being the touchscreen controls (not an issue on X1) and microtransactions. Max has had some mixed reviews so far. Some solid 8s and 9s, but also some 6s. |

Well, I gave in and ordered a new one from the Xbox service website for £30. I resented having to pay £30 for a new power supply, but I thought it was a better option than paying to post my original one all the way to Prague and then waiting for a replacement, as that would cost more plus mean I'd be unable to use the console. The new one arrived today, from the European service centre... in a pathetically thin jiffy bag with no additional protection. But despite the crappy packaging, it works better than the original one - no more dodgy fan noise! :D I finally have a power supply that isn't noisier than the console itself and finally have a power supply that doesn't sound dodgy. |
