It really does depend on who you get, I called and to be honest they couldn't have been nicer, we agreed a new price and my monthly bill has come down by £6, and I got an upgrade on my landline. Having checked Sky website theres no way in my case they are cheaper. I would have to pay more a month and get less capable DVR's.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

Passinbat, My wife received a bill of £137.00 and she called them as our normal monthly bill including phone calls is £60/70.per month
She was told that this bill includes an increase from December.

She asked what price it has now gone up and and was told £85.00 per month for the XL plus phone.

He said that he could not give a deal as we were on one, VM are making a mockery of customers, one CS agent tells you one thing and someone else tells you something different.

We can get a better deal from Sky, and we have we are now better off by £20 and we will get more channels.

Yes, the phone will stay the same, if we went to BT, the costs would be horrible as we have had BT before.

All depends if you mean two agents tell you different things about the same account or whether two agents tell two different people things about their own accounts.

Sometimes its 100% correct that you are on the best deal VM can offer for the services you have.

Maybe you could list your services for Phone BB and TV, number of S T Boxes etc and the price for your services, excluding extra phone call charges that are extra to those included with your phone plan. They should be shown separately on your bill.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

Yeah would need to see what services you had to get a price what it would be, XL plus phone am assuming you mean TV? Do you have Broadband too?

As it seems you would have been far better off on a Collection, probably Premier but no way would the bill even be near that amount, there was no price rise in December either.

I think this was the right decision for you, Arthur, as you appear to have been disappointed with VM for a long time.

Do let us know after a few months whether you think you have made the right decision and that the grass really is better on the other side.

Don't forget to take out insurance for your new box. If it goes wrong, it will be down to you.

Agree 100%

Best thread on the site by far. Going miles off topic it both it's best and worst features.

If people just want the latest news they can use the thread search facility and search under Media Boy. This tends to filter out all of the off topic posts from other users and presents you with the most relevant Coming Soon news. Simples https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2013/02/19.jpg

Forgive my ignorance (it's been a long time since I have had Sky), but don't you need a BT phone line for Sky Broadband? (happy to be corrected) Or do intend to remove BB from your package? Either way, I am pleased you are finally getting a better deal, lets hope it works out for you.

Also at the bottom of the link it also says that Disney Junior HD is set to launch in April as well?

Also under the Sky-Disney deal, the satellite broadcaster has renewed its carriage deals to the suite of Disney networks, including the Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior, along with Disney Junior HD, which will launch in April.

He hasn't got a Batphone to Virgin or Sky HQs.
Do what he does - Google or even try something radical and wait until something OFFICIAL is announced.

Do Virginmedia hold any exclusivity rights with any of the major Film Companies?, just a though but if they did, they would maybe benefit from launching there own movie channel.

They simply can't compete. Sad but true. Note, this deal with Disney and Sky comes with all sorts of additional Pay Per View rights beyond the obvious...

Quote:

In addition to the launch of the new channel, the agreement gives Sky Movies the first subscription pay TV movie rights in the UK and Ireland to other titles distributed by Disney, including new movies from Lucasfilm, and also Marvel Studios features such as Iron Man 3 and Avengers Assemble, which will be broadcast across the Sky Movies portfolio of channels.

Then its time for Ofcom to damn well get off their butts to stop Sky using their typical age old nefarious tactics where we pay more then their own subscribers and then they withhold certain channels or HD variants from Virgins platform.

Maybe the new takeover may give VM more bargining power, but they need to move forward, or they are going to risk losing more TV Subscribers.

It's all well and good oferring the most up to date PVR, but if they ain't got the content, it don't matter how good it is at wishlist and the like. Try searching for Game Of Thrones!, MMm. I had to go to Blinkbox for that.

I thought that when I was a full VM VIP customer. Now I have Sky for TV and VM for BB, Its cheaper, yes I only get the channels on the main TV, but I use the Tivo's three tuners to records all the freeview stuff and use the Sky box to watch all the glorious HD.

Its cheaper than just having VM too.

VM's losing its touch - and thats not up to Ofcom to bail them out. You get what you pay for. VM isn't bothered frankly.

It's looking good at the moment for Virgin customers. Finally Virgin seem to be securing deals for the vast majority of non-SKY branded HD channels. If Virgin can secure ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD you'd have to say their HD offering is a close to first class as you can get.

Remember SKY and Virgins carriage agreement for SKY Movies and SKY Sports expires in the summer. I wouldn't be surprised to see SKY Disney being on Virgin in SD and HD by August.

The general rule in our house for stuff only one of us is interested in is if it's a live event you get to watch it live and the other has to suffer it, if it isn't you TiVo it and watch it later on your own. She'd already agreed to that before she realised it meant I get to watch any live sport and only really have to "suffer" the skimpy outfits on Strictly and Dancing on Ice!

Why wouldn't we get it? We have all the other Sky Movie channels in HD. See no reason why this should be any different.

Technix seems a great source of info, the question I have how do they know that the new carriage deal will incorporate say Universal HD channel, maybe i should just be happy not to query the info:)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

I feel a little sorry for VM. There are channels i would like to see on my Tivo like everyone but the current contents is ok.

Universal HD is good news and whilst the addition of new channels is not prolific we still get them. Eurosport 2 HD was another welcome recent addition.

We get a large (and increasing) catalogue of HD content at no extra charge (unlike Sky) and the ESPN channels (for now)

whilst it is easy to bash VM it is Sky who are the villians for me. I am sure VM would love to add Atlantic,Sky Sports 3 & 4 HD Sky Sports News HD etc but it appears Sky want too much for them. This is a deliberate ploy to keep channels back for themselves. They know if VM met their price then it could only afford to do so by passing the cost on to us. I bet we would all welcome another price hike!!!! NOT! VM's problem is since their sold thier channels off a few years ago they are no longer a channel provider and this has weakened their position.

What annoys me about Sky is that they see VM as purely a competitor and treat VM and us (VM Subscribers) with disdain. They want to dominate the world and destroy VM in the process. The thing is not everyone wants a dish, or cant get a comparable BB service (like me) and anyway OFCOM wont allow Sky to be the only player in pay digital tv. Instead they should see VM as a means to expand viewers of its channels.

Whilst Sky make more money from its own subscribers (buying their equipment etc) they also make money VM customers who have their services. Surely Skys advertising income would increase if more people had access to the likes of Atlantic etc. But 'greed is king' Sky dont seem bothered. But if we pay for Sky Movies/Sports are we not their customers as well in some way?

If Sky wanted VM to have Atlantic, all the HD sports etc they could make it happen if they wish. We only got sports 1 and 2 Hd and the sky sports red button because they had to give it to us. For me the fault for the lack of certain channels lays at Skys door as much as VM's.

The issue with the ITV HD channels puzzles me a bit though. Surely ITV relies on its advertising revenue so would be keen to get its channels available on as many platforms as possible you would think. They are FTA channels after all. Is this another influence of Sky ?

well said but if sky have infact invested in order to obtain hd version you can see some justification to keep the exclusive for a short while,But sky sports 3+4 hd is just plain greed

And what content exactly is it VM subscribers are missing out on ?

As far as I'm aware the only content Sky have as exclusive is Sky Atlantic the rest can be viewed by VM subscribers the only difference being some is only available in SD , there's nothing stopping VM/Liberty Global from forming an exclusive entertainment channel and distributing it solely on cable.

Yes, but they aren't FTA, ITV launched the additional HD channels as pay tv channels in a deal with Sky. I would imagine part of that deal was that they were exclusive to Sky.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/t...ls-on-Sky.html

ITV probably don't feel there will be a massive impact on advertising revenue as anyone wishing to view the content still has access to the SD version.

Other than the fact that the deal hasn't been completed at this stage?

It's not realistic, VM had HBO content on demand before Sky Atlantic appeared on the scene. Sky just made HBO an offer they couldn't refuse and gained exclusive access to the content as a result. If VM get into a bidding war for content, they probably won't win... and even if they did win, they would have paid too much and their customers would end up paying over the odds.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

Liberty could extend their agreement with CBS and have all new CBS shows exclusively in future, then have CBS1 as exclusive channel/negotiation tool on all their european cable platforms.

thanks i was not aware of that- but it was Sky's influence then.

Hopefully the day will come when HD is seen as the standard and we say say goodbye to the extra charges (sky premium channels) and not being able to get HD versions of SD channels.

HD as standard might not be as far away as once thought.

"The total number of high definition channels on Freeview will increase from four to 14 by the end of next year subject to regulatory approval from Ofcom."

What could these be, and will they be added to Virgins M package and above as standard?

If ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD form part of the 14 potential HD channels on Freeview, I'd guess when they launch next year that's when they will arrive on Virgin.

All speculation of course.

That's not to say the HD channels will only be around for that length of time. Converting the existing multiplexes from DVB-T to DVB-T2 should mean that most, if not all can be accommodated after the temporary multiplexes are switched off.

Rumour: Sky Movies Action HD may close next month to make way for Sky Movies Disney HD to launch.

Sky has confirm that Sky Movies Disney will be on Sky Channel 305 from launch - but that is Sky Movies Action Channel number on Sky.

http://www.sky.com/mysky/latestnews/...movies-disney/

So:

A) All channels after Sky Showcase is set to move on March 28th (I have listed the Virgin Channel numbers)???

404. Sky Movies Family
405. Sky Movies Disney
406. Sky Movies Comedy
407. Sky Movies Action
408. Sky Movies Crime
409. Sky Movies Drama
410. Sky Movies Sci Fi
411. Sky Movies M. Greats
412. Sky Movies Classics
413. Sky Movies Indie

Or B) Sky Movies Action will close so Sky Movies can launch Sky Movies Disney on Virgin Channel 405.

Jameseh 22-02-2013 00:36

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

Or they just put it on 413 & 443 because Sky numbers don't matter on Virgin.
