Whomever 'Kate' is she'll know bugger all about if/when VM will be getting BT Sports.

It is in her interests to stall like that in hope of a sale...

I thought all the angst was because the thought was that it wasn't going to be free as part of the larger package (sorry, can't think what the "large package" is on virgin, and not keen on dwelling on thoughts of large packages :D)

So will all be happy if they get it same price as sky (re £12 and £15 with HD)?

The XL Pack :D

I reckon ESPN and ESPN HD will stay in XL as they are now as part of the deal they all ready have and BT Sport channels will be at same cost as Sky.

Well as many of us said we were always going to get it. Yes it doesn't say anything about HD but maybe VM decided to get a great price for just SD? Who knows.

I will pay a it more for it but not a lot more.

I wonder when the BT Sport loop video will update with details to say it will be available on VM. Also do people think that VM customers will be able to watch online and via the app like BT customers and Sky customers can?

exactly.

We've move to Sky for TV and BT Phone & Internet. With the deals we're saving £580 in the first 12 months.

Even when the offers have ended we will be saving £5.54 per month and that's before and cost for BT is factored in.

If Virgin charge £12 that will be a significant saving of £210.48 per year.

The foreign football is going to be on the BT channels not ESPN.

Not sure what content will be on ESPN but don't think it's going to be anything significant. Though there it's not clear whether the FA Cup will still be on the ESPN branded channel.

No word on cost yet. Do BT:

a) Charge £15 knowing that SS1 costs just 50p more and will show more EPL football, or
b) Do a wholesale deal on the XL package, which is counteractive to their plans to convert VM customers to BT customers?

If it was b), you'd think VM would be shouting that from the rooftops by now.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

If that link is even real, then I would assume that BT have agreed with VM that they can't sell it below a certain price or offer it within a bundle.

It kind of suits both parties. VM don't have to pay a certain cost per subscriber and potentially lose money and only those who really want it will pay for it themselves and then VM can still market it that BT sports is available to them as apposed to not.

BT then also get better exposure, the revenue direct and Ofcom won't be breathing down their necks either.

---------- Post added at 17:14 ---------- Previous post was at 16:34 ----------

Quite a few FM's on a rival site are very pessimistic about this deal. It seems a lot don't think the link is genuine - as the link can't actually be found on VM's website?!

I am going to stick my neck out here and say this, AS VM are going to push for bb, they will come to a deal with BT Sports over the BB thingy, and get BT Sports CHEAPER than Sky, and offer it to customers at £5.00 per month.

VM with Liberty, will push for more customers and offer better channels, and l would expect some American stuff to come our way, and the channels they have in the states are great. There is a fantastic channel over there called Tv Land, which shows some great stuff like the Beverley Hill Billies etc.

The Rifleman, Laredo etc.

lol BT Sport is BT's way of getting back customers who switched from BT to go all in "triple-pay" with Sky and Virgin.

Negates the object if they offer it at anything less than full price to Virgin customers.

I agree, which makes it pointless to offer virgin BT sport for less than full rate.

But I could be proved wrong (i do remember getting a B+ once, wait, do they do the A-F system anymore...argghh..another oldie statement i fear). :D

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Virgin Media 'in talks over BT Sport deal'

BT Sport could soon be available on the Virgin Media platform.

Virgin Media has hinted to its cable TV customers that they will be able to sign up for BT's soon-to-launch sports broadcasting service.

BT announced earlier this month that the channels - BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN - will be available free of charge to its broadband subscribers with BT Vision, Sky+ or YouView set-top boxes. They will also be streamed online via a special app.

Sky users without a BT broadband connection will be able to subscribe to the standard-definition service for £12 per month, or the high-definition version for £15.

However, no mention was made of Virgin Media, leading to complaints from customers - particularly those currently signed up to Virgin's XL TV package, which will offer free access to ESPN until the introduction of BT Sport.

With the launch set to take place on August 1st 2013, Virgin Media has issued an update in which it promises to keep customers up to date with any new developments on the matter.

"We're always striving to bring you the best sporting events and competitions from around the world and we're talking to BT about how we can make the forthcoming BT Sport package available to you," the cable company insisted.

Anyone think BT's hiring of Gareth Bale a bit dodgy? given he might be sold this summer.

I don't think he's going to be used much anyway. He cant do pundit duty on a sat lunchtime if hes playing at 3pm. he cannot do sat lunchtime if hes playing on a sunday either.

I was thinking more to do with their promoting him as the face of it. But levy usually extracts max fee so he'll prob not be sold till aug 31st anyway

It wont work if he moves to Spain unless BT want to promote SkySports LaLiga. tbh itll be funny when they have to remove him. some may think 'writing on the wall'

If virgin allowed channels to sell there products them selves like sky do a deal would have been agreed now but because VM only do wholesale the process of getting it on is going to take a long time BT will want a high price where as VM will want it as cheap as possible

Right, because Sky don't own the satellite the channels broadcast from or their own EPG, they have no control whatsoever if a company wants to be on Sky.

Whereas Virgin own their entire TV & broadband infrastructure and can change channels at will (or at least to a degree not to sod broadcasters off).

They do own and run their EPG.

BT have to pay Sky for EPG slots and conditional access as Sky handles the encryption.

So I don't have to read the whole thread, can someone tell me what the score is with sports tv packages at the moment, and if VM are losing ESPN?

A friend is in to footy and sports and currently she is with VM but wants to know what she would gain/lose out on by staying with VM or moving to say BT or sky. Not in to watching sports myself so I have no idea what to tell her.

Cheers!

As things stand VM are not getting BT Sport and we are going to lose ESPN on July 31st unless an agreement can be reached, which I don't think one will.

A agreement will be reached pretty soon and of that there is no doubt in my humble opinion.

A notice on the Virgin Media website now appears to offer good news to the cable company’s customers. It promises that “BT Sport is coming to your living room” and that the channels will launch “on Virgin Media this summer”.

Its certainly a possibility but my friend has been stung with Virgins 'coming soon' and other stuff before, so wanted to know how things currently stood. Doubt she will hang around waiting and likely to move to BT as ESPN is guaranteed there, as well as some sweet deals.

That's your opinion. It's not nigh on certain at all. There is no certainty.
As it stands we're not getting it and BT Sport are targeting us VM customers in their adverts telling us to switch.

Correct. If she doesn't act soon she will lose the free HD offer.
Infinity will be in ym area in September, so I will most likely wait till then and if VM haven't got it, switch over July and ride out the poor speed till it is available.:)

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Don't understand why so many seem to think that Virgin are pulling at the reigns on the BT Sport channels. These are BT's channels and it is they who will be pulling the strings and will be the ones who run the show on this one, NOT Virgin. BT will want to get as much as they can to finance their purchasing of the ESPN rights and the Premier League deal...and quite right too. As a commercial enterprise they are in the market to make money and nobody should be surprised at that. Virgin will be negotiating with BT to get the best deal for all its customers, which includes me, and of course themselves. It goes without saying that BT would have put the first figures on the table for Virgin to ponder over, and anyone who has negotiated contracts will know that the one with the bargaining power will start way to high. Virgin no doubt said NO to the first costs asked by BT.

For what its worth, I have no doubt that BT Sports will be on Virgin on the 1st August. It goes without saying really...but I will....some will shirk at the cost, will believe that Virgin should at least include BT owned ESPN in the XL package, but Virgin may not have any control over that, so all who are saying Virgin need to keep that in the XL package maybe being very blinkered.

Cost of taking the BT Sport channels may be prohibitive to some, and I'm sorry for that, but there are enough of us, yes I will be taking the channels being a footie nutter, to make it worthwhile for Virgin to carry the channels.

Not everyone will be happy, but C'est La Vie.

That's a very pretty picture that you paint of Aurthur daley and Del Boy sat around pulling their best poker face, making out that this is always par for the course, but can you explain how Murdoch always seems to get dealt a straight flush?

paul nolan 01-06-2013 13:07

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

As I said in another thread. I think Virgin Media posted the original message when the deal was agreed. But BT Sport probably made a stipulation that they don't want anything advertised so BT can gain customers before launch day.

I reckon that the channels will just appear in the place of ESPN on August 1st.

Indeed as one suspects when it does launch it will arrive on all major platforms at the same time.
