HD has not been adopted by the majority of the public Hugh as most of the public just watch normal SD tv and do not even understand what HD stands for.

Any facts to back up that statement, or is it just your opinion?

I prefer facts, like these ones.

Sky HD subscribers = 3.7 million

VM HD subscribers = 1.5 million

Freeview HD customers = ??

Must be a new definition of "most of the public" I hadn't come across before.

You are, of course, entitled to your own opinions - you are not entitled to your own facts.....:D

The freeview HD numbers will exceed both Sky and VM over time , nearly all new sets have this now plus Freeview HD STB.

And this is where Tivo whishlists show how brilliant they are. Add any of the above shows you're interested in to a whishlist now and then sit back and relax and any shows that do air in the UK will get automatically recorded. No more trawling the web to see if they will get picked up in the UK and which channel they will be on and when.

Assuming they are aired on a channel you have access to, and are not snapped up on an 'exclusive' basis elsewhere......:)

If we assume that freeview is the combined total of Sky and VM, that makes the grand total to be 10.4 million. Using these figures, about 16/17% of the population have HD.

True, if your assumption regarding Freeview numbers is correct, and that each subscriber lives on their own, rather than their being approx 25 million households in the UK.....;)

So very much a minority in my mind.

Try reading the post above yours - 10 million households out of 25 million = 40%.

Whilst a minority, not "very much" of one....;)

Don't forget there will also be those who access HD content through Blu-ray but do not yet have an HD Set top box for TV.

No need to say "great Hugh' - that's just tautology ;)

btw, feel free to point out where in this thread I said that the majority of viewers had HD - I was just gainsaying (with facts, who I realise are not your friends), your statement

Can anyone from the Leicester area tell me if Midland Asian TV (MATV) is still broadcasting on Virgin Media Channel 823 or not.

I have not been given any update on this channel since May 12th.

Thanks for any info.

Not forgetting Freesat HD too of course :D I still think 3D-TV will remain a niche product until the need to wear glasses is removed, which is I think how this conversation started.
