I so want an ADSL line for gaming, i can get a BT line put in for free saving me £130 quid, but i just cant justify the extra £20 a month ontop of my virgin connection.

Took TalkTalk up on the offer on free instal + 12months half price. Can just cancel within 10days. They turn interleaving off also and allow you to have 6db.
Now you said Sky allow Fasthpath in the summer kinda gutted. Can get a good deal with them in tv ^ :D

Thank thenry,

Confirm SH is in combo mode and settings in DMZ are already as you state. Have tried rebooting SH but still the same.

Funny how your graph hints at similar 3 hour spikes to mine, yet mines on fibre, it must be something on Sky's network, either that or the Sky plus box updates every 3 hours or so. just merely an observation

Is your Sky plus box wired to your router like mine ?

In the last few weeks my super hub has been rebooting at random points and giving me an unidentified network, so I decided to put the thing in modem mode and connect my Belkin router. The range and strength of wifi has more than doubled. The connection has also been much more consistent.
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/s...05-06-2012.png

The two spikes are ping tests.

now after area updates and note this VM connection is not even in use ( i use an adsl at the moment)

PS
Just to have in mind for future ... anyone knows if a business or a leased line can be cheaper than the 110 pounds are going to VM to go in that service?
if yes i will just cancel my direct debit and they can take me to court
But will wait till a Mod at VM forums reply to see what they will say about the connection first

it seems as though VM are moving everyone about throughout the double process but capacity isn't being added early and instead later down the line.

yup. as mentioned above VM getting everyone onto the correct tier, securing the network etc. etc. is probably the cause of this jump. may be this is actual good management. VM monitoring seeing as they have to move a lot of customers over then adding capacity accordingly ?

Sorry for delay in replying, had grandaughter staying for a few days - it's amazing how many times a 15 month-old can consecutively climb the stairs!

Anyway tried your suggestions yesterday, still no luck then read that you have to disable port forwarding for it to work. Did that, reset the hub and all seemed ok. Re-enabled port forwarding and it still worked but stopped working some time around 1:30am, so disabled port forwarding again did another reboot and the monitor has been working okay since 11:00am.

A rare sight on a VM connection :D I just ordered a Talk Talk ADSL Line for my XBOX, free connection, 6 months half price £17pm, can only expect about 3 or 4 meg due to distance, will see how it compares, 10 day cooling off so got nothing to lose really.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

dont forget if you can set up a monitor to compare adsl from TT with mine :dunce:

Ps
is not that cheap is £10 on top for 40/2 and £15 for 80/20
but is good as BT's infinity had it before at old premisses

I only wish there was a Fibre provider in my area... the activated the town next to me even though it has 4 times less potential customers... insane, so im stuck with Virgin or a DSL provider. Activation isn't until the 26th so ill set up a monitor beside my Virgin connection on that date

with TT is £10 or £15 on top of current package ... so you keep any previous deals that was with phone line(example special offer(international calls to 36 countries etc) or loyalist offer

How much will Superfast Fibre Optic Broadband cost?
Our great value, high performance up to 40Mb product is an additional £10 a month on top of current Essentials or Plus package price.

Our Up to 80Mb product is also now available, you could enjoy even faster speeds and higher performance for an additional £15 a month to your current Essentials or Plus package price.

There is also a one off £30 activation fee, which includes an engineer visit to set everything up for you.

There are no hidden costs.

Thanks.

Port forwarding was originally enabled on the Linksys for my stepsons xbox 360, he hasn't complained yet so I'll see how things go. Only downside so far is the brightness of the blue led at night so I'll be putting some tape over that - way too bright for a bedroom.

Thanks again for your help.

Maybe it's just my suspicious mind but haven't you noticed a lot of funny stuff going on recently, and I don't just mean VM related issues, but with the internet in general.

Lots of what appear to be routing issues, capacity issues, slow web page loading across multiple isp's.

mine looks ok

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/06/83.png

but some sites are taking a while to resolve for me like www.speedtest.net and can sometimes fail to load fully at all.

Could it be anything to do with ipv6 ?

My connection has got quite a bit worse in the past week for some unknown reason, this was June 1st - couldn't hope for any better on VM!

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/06/80.png

this however was todays (ignoring gap where I paused it)... a very big difference in quality - it's been the same for a few days now. I guess a new heavy 100Mb user or 20 was allowed onto the network?

Maybe but imo it only takes a single 100 Mbps customer seeding flat out unshaped for whatever reason to produce that difference in graphs. I've seen my own vary by that much back and forth several times within days.

No, but the minimum latency on all of my graphs dropped at around 2pm, and an extra hop (Brentford) has been added after the Guildford node. Hopefully its a permanent thing and not just re-routing around a network issue!

I'm connected through a telephone extension socket in the living room, rather than the main socket.

I'll try that later and see if those red packets remain

On the other hand, when I ping bbc.co.uk 100 packets, none get lost so I'm not getting packet loss in real terms

Nice. Confirmation at last the yellow "fluff" on Sky is the fault of Sky's supplied router after all.

I was kind of hoping for a Speedtest.net IMG.

I'll be honest and say my connection is 95% good. No 100meg users in my area though yet!

Finally got on XXL100 this morning so will be interesting to see if there's any difference.. Area's been upgraded since April and there's been no change to the downstream (all 8 channels or upstream)

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/s...12-06-2012.png

The change is the reboot at about 8:30am

Slightly improved picture today from the horrors earlier in the week, those random spikes are not fun though.

Mine seems to have improved slightly of late, although we were in bed around 9.00.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

I'm... not sure what's wrong with mine. Either there's something wrong with the monitor, or my SuperHub needs a reboot. However, there's nothing in my SuperHub logs regarding disconnects or anything. And my power levels are the same as before. Nothing is being downloaded (disabled my NAS torrent client), and browsing/downloading seem perfectly fine. (I downloaded the iOS 6 beta yesterday morning at full speed.)

I actually got a pretty big improvement earlier. After the area maintenance a few days back despite no IP change for me it now looks like...
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/s...18-06-2012.png
Unless that's the result of all those who weren't naffed about with an Openreach data error moving from VM to Infinity before me.

Here's mine

That's with R36, the red around 10am is me changing some settings and deliberately rebooting the hub.

Still looking reasonable....

... I think they've done this and apparently fixed the Superhub to spite me because I've given them the 30 days notice

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

They have a tendency towards that, same thing happened to me - I was complaining for months on end about performance like this:

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/06/24.png

Couple weeks before leaving it turns to this:

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Mind you it can go to rats just as quickly - mine went from fine to dire almost overnight. I guess that's the result of selling unlimited products that can consume half your local pipe.

I'm not sure if the improvement is entirely down to the pre-announced maintenance as I've seen it look good for a few days at a time before which is what leads me to believe that the problem could be caused by a single very high usage customer.
