It is more than Rooney will get though. No one is seriously suggesting he will be banned for more than a handful of games and some of those will be suspended anyway.

Just checked. Drogba got a 6 match ban, with 2 suspended.

Incidentally I don't think he should be banned to be honest. He is an idiot and as a bad attitude. He treats his own supporters with more disrespect than anyone else though, and while swearing down the camera is stupid a fine would be sufficed.

Well it looks like its going to be two which is ridiculous. Had it been any other the player it wouldn't have got a mention, but because its Rooney its all over the papers and the FA have quite happily wilted under the pressure. It will be intresting to see how many managers, players and staff members get bans from now on for swearing when a cameras on them.

Two match suspension for Rooney subject to appeal:

Though if he appeals they'll probably up it...

Again. Drogba. Also Fabregas was vilified for a week or so after he alleged comments directed towards a referee during the Everton game. It's not simply because it's Rooney.

Also it's disingenuous to suggest that this is akin to the cameras picking up a swear word from a player or manager who are going about the game. Rooney wasn't caught when the cameras were on him, he looked to the camera and shouted down it.

DocDutch 04-04-2011 22:49

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

problem with Rooney is that he is a good player but there is just a lot lacking between the ears.

2 games is light but saying that the word that has been used is basically normal language in schools now anyways.

Shadow Demon UK 04-04-2011 22:56

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Firstly Drogba was banned for 3 games not 4. Secondly it wasn't because he swore, it was comments made to and about the referee. Fabregas has never been banned for swearing and i don't think any player ever has. Surely if the FA feel the need to ban a player for swearing at a camera they should feel the need to ban a player swearing at a referee or official? I doubt it, unless its Rooney doing the swearing probably.

You would think the FA have more important things to do, like looking at Essiens tackle against stoke (which has barely been mentioned in the papers) or the racist abuse some west ham fans were giving out, obviously not.

The bold part is quite funny considering Rooney is renowned for his abuse of officials during play, for which he's never been punished. Often when he feels hard done by he, as clear as day, swears at officials. Yet you're seriously now saying if Rooney (the goody two shoes that he is, clearly) abused officials he'd be banned. Talk about red tinted glasses.

Yes, so why hasn't he been banned before then? Why has this only been started now, in the run-in to the end of the season?

The FA rule is "A participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour." So why hasn't every player who swears during a game been given a two match ban? Theres nothing in the rule to say that it has to be directed at a camera to get a ban.

I'm not defending what he did, he was an idiot, but a two game ban is ridiculous.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

I think the FA are pathetic, I gave up being a ref, as to me the whole football hierachy is a total joke.

The FA are puppets and won't hit the big boys hard, and fine or suspend players or Managers for swearing at officials, the antics that Terry, Droga or Rooney or any PL player, yet clubs in the lower divisions get hit so hard it a tragedy.

I gave up being an official, due to this problem, and to me if it is good enough for lower league clubs, then its good enough for the big boys.

I think there is a clear difference between a player doing it on the pitch where he happens to be caught (and it's usually not audible as the mics are on the sides) and doing it down the camera where it's obviously and intentionally going to be audible.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Rooney is a big headed git, and from what l have heard and read, he ran straight up to the camera and said the abusive language, If that audible, l don't know what is.

And not only that, if l was the camera guy, l would have had him done, for using foul and abusive langauge. He is a little baby with the dummy still stuck in his gob and paid a lot of money for what - l have seen better players than him on a cold Sunday morning playing at Warren Farm.

Not quite true, he was walking along with team mates either side, these two man camera operators actually run onto the pitch and shove the camera in the players faces, they are hoping that like Gerrard earlier in the season and Noble in this game that the player may kiss the lens to give them a good picture, Rooney was speaking directly to the camera men, he was in front of Man Utd supporters so he wasn't having a go at the crowd.

Gomez was at fault tonight, and he is supposed to be a top goalkeeper, on tonights performance, don't make me laugh. and Crouch should never have been on the pitch.

For the next game we have, to have Cudicini in goal and Pav on, get rid of Crouch.

Nope. Not his fault. Real Madrid were simply much better, especially in the second half. Not much Spurs could have done and they would have lost with 11 men on the pitch in all likelihood.

And Modric let the ball go through his legs for the first goal. Gomez had no chance at all with the second one, or the third, maybe should have stopped Ronaldo's though.

It was quite correct that big mouth Rooney should complain about his two match ban, and also he will not be the first player to swear at football.

BUT, what he forgot was, he swore directly into the camera, and his conduct was appalling, and what he should realise is that there are thousands of kids out there that support him.

The ban should have been longer, and also he should have been fined.

To me the club should also have taken matters in hand and fined him too, this is the biggest problem in football today, they are paid too much money, and think they are gods gift, well they are not, Rooney is a spoilt little kid.

It was a less than subtle dig at a Spurs player who suddenly felt poorly an hour before kick off. As Arthur is a Spurs supporter I thought the comparison to be apposite.

Rooney would run out on the pitch on one leg if he thought it would help the team. Boorish, foul mouthed, yob he most certainly is but in a team game he is the ultimate team player, he covered every inch of the pitch on Wednesday night, he wasn't skulking in the dressing rooms feeling a 'bit off'.

Rooney contributes more to his team in one match than Lennon does in a whole season.:p:

Two of English football's top-four clubs could be excluded from European competition in future as they fail Uefa rules that are about to be introduced.
The Financial Fair Play Regulations do not come into force until 1 June and will not really bite until 2013.
However, a study of recent accounts by BBC Sport shows Chelsea and Manchester City would fall well short of the rules if they were being applied today.

American businessman Kroenke already owns 29.9% of the north London club.

Second half and the last 25 minutes of the first as well. After Berba missed two sitters inside 20 seconds they took their foot of the gas, allowed City back into the game and they were under pressure for the rest of the game.

To many players looked leggy, Valencia, Carrick, Park, O'Shea all looked weary, Nani and Berbatov didn't really show up. Overall Man City deserved to win.

I'd say highly probable - he's a mess :dozey:

To true, far better than the over hyped, over rated El Classico

Spurs-Arsenal was epic. Two teams who love to play - though I'd say Spurs were the better side, because so often Arsenal try to walk it in.

Not good, just shows the pressure they are under. Gawd knows why anyone would become a football manager. Wenger looks like he's about to have a breakdown :dozey:

I think that the football writers must be looking at the wrong games this season.

Scott Parker being named as Footballer of the Year, you must be having a right laugh, to me it should have been a couple of players Bale, Giggs or Rooney, but Parker, who is he.

Never mind, the only other prize the club will get this season - next season it will be is championship football.:D

Parker is a midfielder who plays for West Ham, and he is the reason they are not relegated already. Bale was a much dodgier shout since in the domestic games he hasn't been that great, poor assist rate and not many goals. Teams in England know how to deal with him better. His status has been achieved largely because of games against Inter.

Well said
Don't rate Bale as highly as some others, and Parker has been sensational in the games I have seen him in.

I think they have been looking at all the games which is why Bale didn't win it, I mean he goes missing regularly, out injured a lot and his best performance was in a game already lost and what do you mean only prize, we won the bid for the Olympic stadium as well and once that running track is ripped out that'll be a prize actually worth winning, unlike Europa League qualification.

"Parker's selection as the FWA Footballer of the Year only underlines the scale of his contribution to a West Ham team that could still be relegated - and probably would be already if it wasn't for his professionalism and performances.

"It's often easy to shine in a good side but Parker has carried a poor team and has been so outstanding that he has finally convinced England coach Fabio Capello of his worth. A worthy winner."

Their are 11 players in a team, NOT one player,.

Yet only one player can score at a time.. You can't discount the team without the players or the player without the team. The award though is a footballer of the year and not team of the year

Yes but the award is for 'player' of the year. So that statement makes absolutely no sense what so ever.

It's quite hard to judge but I can tell you Bale would not be in my team of the year and nor would Rooney.

My shortlist:

Nani
Van Der Sar
Nasri
Modric
Tevez
Scott Parker
Charlie Adam

My comment was on the fact that West Ham appears to have put the good work up to Scott Parker.

As l have said there is more than one player in the West Ham team have done the same amount of hard work to help them stay up so far.:)

---------- Post added at 22:45 ---------- Previous post was at 22:42 ----------

I might not be a great lover of Celtic, but l cannot understand why someone has sent him a 'nasty object' in an attempt to kill him.

Whats the world coming to, he is a football manager for christ sake.

Bah! To me he's one of those frustrating players, who can do something amazing and something that makes you want to bang your head against the wall within a second of each other. ;) He's far from the complete player.

I would have Vidic and Kompany over VDS and Nasri in that list. Defenders don't get enough credit IMO and for me united would definately not be top of the league if not for Vidic. I actually thought Vidic was the most deserving out of all those players to win it, obviously with a bit of bias though.

No one has mentioned Hernandez, has to the buy of the season.

19 goals in all comps, many of them crucial match winners as well.
