I can understand why people want Sky 1 or Sky Sports in HD but I don't understand why anyone bothers to subscribe to Sky movies anymore, it is cheaper to use lovefilm or other rental services where you can choose what you watch and not get constant repeats all for a lot less money.

A lot of people don't want the hassle of Love film though. You have to wait for the film to arrive and post it back afterwards. It may be cheap but it's a lot of hassle. Whereas Sky movies you can just surf through your epg, see what's there and watch it. If you miss it, you can almost guarantee it will repeat within 24 hours lol.:D

There is one positive thing Love Film has over VM & SKY movies on demand though, They don't distinguish between HD or SD films in relation to rental charges ;)

I wonder how far into the future that these HD channels will replace there SD counterparts? Finally has anyone else noticed that annoying reference by sports presenters on SKY Sports transmissions , "This program is also available in Standard Definition"

Men and Motors owner ITV are axing M&M so they can use it channel number to broadcast ITV1 HD on Sky.

think the problem is that ITV in Scotland & NI want to be seperate, and ITV plc is a completly different company, covering England & Wales.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

So we have had some great news in the last few weeks so I thought I would put a list together of what HD Virgin media offer/will be able to offer soon. What it can still get and what other HD service locked up by Sky and looking further afield what HD channels may launch this year in the UK.

Broadcasting on Virgin Media/Soon to be broadcasting

BBC HD
C4 HD
Discovery HD
ESPN HD
FX HD
MTV HD
Nat Geo HD
Living HD
Film4 HD
E4 HD
Europsport HD
ITV1 HD
Sci Fi HD

Still a possibility:

Crime and Investigation
History HD
Bio HD
Luxe.tv HD
Nat Geo Wild HD
Rush HD

Rumours circulating that a deal is done (though I have no inclination to believe this)

Sky Arts 1 HD
Sky Arts 2 HD
Sky Real Lives HD
Sky 1 HD

Pending OFCOM investigation outcome

Sky Sports
Sky Movies

Status unknown:

Disney Cinemagic HD - although Virgin did sign a new deal with Disney last year which included mobile and internet TV rights
MGM HD - No SD version to be covered by the rate card, 98% owned by BSkyB

Channels (rumoured) to be launching soon, have HD versions in Europe or are most likely to launch a HD version of a existing channel:

ESPNA HD
Animal Planet HD
Fashion TV HD
Sky Sports News
Sky News HD
Sky2 HD
Good Food HD
Five HD
CNN HD
Hallmark HD

Anyone any idea where Disney stand? They only seemed too pleased to deal with VM for ESPN.

Since when is waiting a day or so and putting a DVD in the post 'a lot of hassle?' Post boxes aren't exactly hard to find.

As for the waiting, Lovefilm is already creating apps for Samsung TV/Blu Ray DVD players and god knows how many other TV/Blu Ray manufacturers, so for Sammy TV owners, we won't even have the wait (and it will be damn-sight cheaper than Sky Movies, you're only paying for the films you're actually watching).

Can there be another way to see itv1 hd. In Scotland we watch channel 853 itv AD rather than channel 103 STV to see the itv network.

Yes, via channel 119 on a Freesat box or channel 178 on a Sky box. ITV1-HD via satellite is discussed in more detail in this thread:

In that case the answer is 'no'. VM decides what will be available on the cable that comes to your house; if it decides not to include ITV1-HD then there's nothing you can do about it.

Media Boy EXCLUSIVE: More info on Sky Movies on Virgin TV from March 26th.

I have now got more info on Sky Movies on Virgin TV from March 26th.

As well as rebranding and moving some channels about on the Virgin EPG Virgin Media are also moving some channels about on the Sky Movies Packages.

Sky Comedy will become part of both Sky Movies packs (i.e. A or B). It is currently only available in Sky Movies A.

Sky Drama & Romance will move from Sky Movies B to Sky Movies A.

OK i've got a question, sorry if this has already been asked, but, with all this "channel hooping" going around i noticed yesterday that they have missed out 2 channels in the sports section:

Sky Sports 1 - Channel 511
Sky Sports 2 - Channel 512
Sky Sports 3 - Channel 513
Channel 514
Channel 515
Sky Sports 4 - Channel 516

Does this indicate that they will be adding more sports channels into the 2 free channels, or that person that added sky sports 4 pressed 6 instead for 4!?

I live in north Hampshire it it matters!

Cheers

Mike

SKy Sports 4 was Sky Sports Extra and has only recently changed. I imagine that Virgin will change it at some point possibly with all the other changes

That just sucks, why does OFCOM have to put such time constrained in this? Now we are likely to end up with BBC1 HD and BBC2 HD. I would much rather the BBC had a best of HD channel like they currently do. And shame on Five for being the only national broadcaster without a HD channel.

They could but looks like they simply have no desire but not even getting their act together to get onto the Freeview HD platform. Poor showing on Fives part, they could even do it on the cheap and outsource the playout to Sky, Virgin or other third party.

From the Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010...hannel-five-hd

Quote:

Five had been unable to "resolve certain key criteria by the end of 2009" asked for by Ofcom, including committing to a launch date for a HD channel and providing satisfactory details and a commitment to a schedule.
So they couldn't commit to a launch date or scribble down a schedule.

Sky premium channels will come but VM viewers will just have to pay for them!!!

Sky will get to a point where the idea of additional revenue outweighs new uptake revenue.

I would be more than happy to pay an extra £10 a month for Sky sports and Movies

They really should get rid of the porn channels to be honest, leave the pervs buy them online or via vod if there on there that way more channels can come into play.

Also get rid of gems tv

I think VM will get them eventually. Like they got Sky 1 back and how they got Sky Movies and sports in the first place.

I just don't see how sky could allow this they would then have no material advantage over Virgin.

According to rumours on the web STV and UTV are both set to launch a HD channel with advanced picture and sound quality very soon but may not be ready in time for the world cup.

God almighty, Michelle McManus in HD.....thats what we get for having a cr*p football team.

My total services has gone from 298 to 299 on my V Box and 305 to 306 on my V+ box but I cannot see anything new on the EPG. Must be something testing...

I have to say I do like the +1 especially on the documentary cahnnels, as you have a choice of two documentaries per channel when channel surfing. I don't study the guide in depth and most of my viewing on those channels is usually done if I find something interesting on them.

So, analogue shut down paves the way for the capacity needed to add all these HD channels. Now all VM need to do is have a "sale" on their new HD box and they will start raking it all in.

You taping will be ok.

But if you can set an other one for Thursday night.

When my Headend was update Virgin did it about 12.20am.

You will see the following are you have join NGTV:

BBC Radio 4 LW on Channel 911
BBC London 94.9 on Channel 937
plus all the ITV and Channel 4 Channels on are moving as well (See post one for more information.)

NOTE: You will know when your box is joining NGTV as it reboots when Virgin are updating.

Channel 5 misses chance to launch HD Channel. This gives BBC the chance to launch a second HD channel.

anyone who have been updated with NGTV can you please give me some screengrabs of the info box when you press i on the remote. This is because i wanna see what extra information you get about the program.

jobbie8 15-03-2010 21:14

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Cant help you with screen grabs, but since teesside changed over the info box lists actors names,(even for things like Corrie) year it was made, HD etc, and a summary of the show in more detail from what we used to have here.
Also when channels are off air we get a Virgin screen telling us, before the change over we could watch CBBC and co on their shared channels like BBC Three during the day and vice-versa.

Wonder if that means I'll swap soon too, I am in Liverpool we should come under the same area shouldn't we?

my folks V box downstairs lists actors etc on sky movie channels and that, my V+ doesn't, so i'll be glad when that update comes.

Ben B 16-03-2010 06:51

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Well this is odd. Something has happened but not NGTV. A load of channels have moved about and there is now information on the old channel positions as to the locations of the new ones. 993 Virgin Central is off EPG and the channel is on the information screens but it has not been put on the EPG. However, no BBC Radio 4 LW, BBC Radio London or BBC News Multiscreen. NGTV_Switch has also disappeared off the channel provisioning.

---------- Post added at 07:51 ---------- Previous post was at 07:30 ----------

Also, Total Services on V Box has now gone up to 301 and Total Services on V+ Box has gone up to 308. Technical Stuff also shows that the V+ Box rebooted around 3am.

Hi, I live on the Wirral which is part of the 41048 Manchester 3 Network, I noticed this channel the other day when I was looking in the engineers menu but it has now gone and has been replaced by 28 165 provisioned.

As someone mentioned we haven't been switched (no Radio 4 LW or Multiscreen).

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Well just checked the EPG and at the top I have a channel numbered 28 and 165 next to it. On the ITV channels ITV2 shows on channel 115 but It also shows a new channel 114 with nothing on it and channel 116 also with no channel name next to it

Sorry unable to supply screen grabs plus all the channels are showing no programme information the wife did switch the V+ off last night and I rebooted this morning when I got up

I'll try a reboot and see what happens
