Personally I would like to see Shaun Wright-Phillips given ago, I seem to remember Kieron Dyer play very well as a support striker and Shaun is even quicker and trickier than him, I think he and Defoe would scare teams as well as being a relative unknown quantity for foreign teams.

well as i said before if Owen can't go the perfect replacement would be Aj as they are very similar types of player and both offer pace and skill too something Crouch doesn't have.. would love to see AJ or Defoe tried out in the Owen role in the friendlies we have coming up

would like to see SWP as i'm not sure if some of the defences could handle him

Really not sure if AJ is the answer, however if Darren Bent is good enough then he should be given another go, the problem is Owen has that little bit of extra class needed for the latter stages of a World Cup.
Also I have heard some hacks advocating on Theo Walcott's behalf, surley it is to soon for him?

I Thought those would get there own threads being the imported events they are :)

Anywhy back to the football someone on Another site worked out what oxford have to do to stay up

17 Bury 45 -12 52
18 Macclesfield 45 -12 51
19 Torquay 45 -13 51
20 Barnet 45 -14 51
21 Notts County 45 -15 51
22 Stockport 45 -21 51
------------------------------
23 Oxford Utd 45 -13 49
24 Rushden & D'monds 45 -31 45 (Relegated)

THE FIXTURES
Saturday, 06 May 2006
Bristol Rovers v Macclesfield, 15:00
Chester v Shrewsbury, 15:00
Darlington v Wrexham, 15:00
Grimsby v Northampton, 15:00
Lincoln City v Rochdale, 15:00
Mansfield v Cheltenham, 15:00
Notts County v Bury, 15:00
Oxford Utd v Leyton Orient, 15:00
Peterborough v Wycombe, 15:00
Rushden & D'monds v Barnet, 15:00
Stockport v Carlisle, 15:00
Torquay v Boston Utd, 15:00

THE COMPLICATIONS
In short, a defeat or draw will result in Oxford bowing out of the Football League to play in the Football Conference next season.

A win may not be enough either, but with 5 teams on 51 points and Bury on 52, they could yet be the ones that fall through the trapdoor and save Oxford.

Oxford's goal difference of -13 could well prove beneficial as most teams have goal differences very similar with the exception of Stockport. Their goal difference of -21 is at least 6 behind the next best goal difference which suggests that a draw might not be enough for them if Oxford win.

Likewise, if other teams draw whilst Oxford win, it could create a huge headache for the table compilers as we could end up with teams being tied on points and goal difference. In that case, we look at the goals scored column.

Bury 43
Macclesfield 57
Torquay 53
Barnet 42
Notts County 46
Stockport 57
Oxford 41

Scoring goals has been Oxford's weakest link this season. Most teams with the exception of Barnet, Bury and possibly Notts County are too far out of reach to catch up on. However, with so many teams tightly packed, a win for Oxford should see them safe unless some of the most bizarre results go against them.

Bury and Notts County play each other yet both could still mathematically go down should Oxford win.

So to sum up, if Oxford can defeat Leyton Orient on Saturday, it should be enough to guarantee safety - but the question is, will they get that win?

Not to hot on the lower leagues, have Leyton Orient been promoted already, also what happened to Jamie Brooks (I think that was his name) great things were predicted for him until he got ill.

Orient are currently in 3rd place in League 2, but they're only 1 point ahead of Grimsby (who managed to stuff themselves by drawing with Macclesfield over the weekend).

All Orient have to do is match Grimsbys results although, having said that, I'd much rather town got promoted :)

it is definitely going 'down to the wire'

Code:

Coca-Cola Football League Two Table
                    P GD PTS
1 Carlisle          44 40 82
2 Northampton      45 26 82
3 Leyton Orient    45 15 78
4 Grimsby          45 20 77

i.e. it is between Grimsby & Orient for the 3rd automatic place, whatever happens between Northampton & Oxford...

Mind you, I could do with Grimsby having to go through the play offs. Last time they did it, the town was deserted - I got so much done without having to avoid the crowds :D
