No common points on the network that I can see with jempalmer.

Have to go out but will do a layer 4 trace when I get back. Got a feeling that some traffic is being shaped/routed differently and pings won't show much.

VM did say they were going to test new traffic management in Croydon...

Thanks. Have you got a post code to go with that?

I don't go through Crawley on my way to everywhere else. Crawley customers seem to go through Croydon though, but they are all part of the same old Telewest network I think.

So it is not a problem between those 2 locations anyway.

You haven't posted any traceroutes of anything affected either.

Does a postcode really make much difference if they have the network route form a tracert anyway? Genuine question I am interested to know the answer to.

I have a London postcode (as I am in London :erm:) yet I seem to share fault numbers with people miles away with a Surrey postcode.

Checked out the locations of where the IP's on the traceroutes and some do say Crawley, but I am guessing they are just registered there and not actually at that location. Could be wrong though!

I'm 13 or 14 miles from the Linx locations but it wouldn't surprise me if I routed through Crawley and Poole and back up again, making it a 170 mile trip :D

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

None of the locations on your traceroute show any problems.

Blackburn bad today, been getting worse over the last week and now only getting around 2mb instead of 60.

I asked the techie that. He said the post code is important. I expect they want to eliminate problems at street level as well as UBR.

We already know they would be wasting their time looking at the street and ubr level.

There is anecdotal evidence pointing towards the increase latency starting at croy-core-2a-ae2-0.network.virginmedia.net [195.182.178.82] for a few customers but the crawley guys with the same bump don't seem to go through there. Which throws a spanner in the works xD

SM6 is one of the postcodes.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Ignore my comment about Crawley customers not going through croy-core-2a-ae0-0.network.virginmedia.net as it appears they do. No latency increase on that trace though.

Why would traceroute pings not match what we see on the TBB monitor?

There's clearly an abnormal latency increase on his trace. Just not on yours.
