What about this channel SKY Sports have launched, Xtra? Any info on whether that will be coming to Virgin within the next 6 months MB?

Media Boy HQ has not seen any confirmed news from our sources that History HD is testing on Virgin.

All we know is (As of June 4th):

A) An V0-- Channel is testing.
B) Its testing with audio.

@theone2k10 good channel if true.

If true we can also see some channels (Channels 233 to 237) moving to new channels numbers. We have come up with two ideas:

A) Community move to channel 245.
History channels move down one
History HD launches on Channel 235.

Or B) History HD launches on Channel 236.
H2 and CI Moves up one.

As an owner of a 4k tv is welcome some 4k content especially football. But the question is can the TiVo utilise 4k video pretty sure I know the answer and I don't like it.

And if Virgin decide to pass on that charge by withdrawing BT Sports from the XL package and offering it as a standalone subscription offering then they better have something good lined up to replace it on the XL pack unless they are going to cut the price of the XL pack and history suggests they ain't going to doing that.

I'd be amazed if you see BT's 4K coverage on VM , it would also require a new STB as the current TiVo isn't 4K.

Yes I like the part that suggest that Vodafone thinks Virgin's TV business isn't worth having? Reasons small customer base and lack of original content.

I have to say I agree! Yet when I first joined Ntlworld all those years ago it was full of promise and I though was really good (apart from customer service which sucked!).

It wouldn't be hard for a company like Vodafone to buy content and deliver it by broadband and presto they have quad play offering just like TalkTalk, EE and BT.

If I was on the board of Virginmedia this would be my strategy

Boardband
Make Broadband unlimited on each package
Tripple upload speeds on all packages
Offer Web hosting and domain names

TV
Partnership with Redbull to create sport channels
Buy an independent production-studio company, create original content (perhaps ITV?)
Partnership with Talk sport with new sports and business channels
Get rig of Tivo (expensive) and replace with simple internet streaming devices.
Recording to the cloud.
Cloud Media hub, to stream bought content to any registered device (Like Flixster- ultraviolet )


Phone
Dump, get rid, outdated.
Team up with Google to provide VoIP

Mobile
Look to China and a partnership to create a new mobile network

Expansion
Offer all the above across Europe, there are huge number of Brits living abroad who'd love to get all these services?

I could have guessed that.

They claim 5 million customers have activated BT Sports across all platforms. Roughly £300-million a year / 5 million / 12 months = £5 per month.

It might be higher in years 2 and 3. Depends if they can persuade them all to stump up the extra.

Out of Sky's 10 million customers only about a million registered for Sports 5 to watch Champions League last season so Sky are betting they will struggle to get that critical mass.

Anybody heard or know anything about BT Sport Europe and if we will get it in the XL package or is it to show some of Champions League for Free which was part of the deal when taking ITVs coverage
