Hee, hee. Reminds me of an incident decades ago when I had a tiny 850cc Mini: Mr "I'm a big poser in my 3 litre Capri" went blasting by on a dual carriageway only to get into an almighty kerb to kerb fishtail ending up astride the central reservation on his belly going nowhere. While I just pootled by secure in the front wheel drive handling. Smug does not even begin to describe it. :)

Only problem is the original mini's had quite a low ground clearance. Not good for driving along a road where the other vehicle's tyres had caused a ridge of packed ice between the wheeltracks.

Well, it has now snowed more or less non-stop for 36 hours, but for most of the time it has been very light and the temperature is slightly above freezing, so there's a slight melt happening at the same time. We've got about 3 inches on the ground. Only half a mile from here there's almost nothing to speak of, but we're higher up the hillside than most of our neighbours and only on the very edge of the snow showers affecting central Scotland today. It's supposed to get 'worse' tonight, apparently, so we shall see what the dawn brings.

The school bus was replaced with a Land Rover this morning, which didn't quite make up for the loss of a potential day off. :D

That's how it's been in Newcastle ,we should have about 3ft of snow on the ground not 3inch given the amount that fell but it has been thawing as it falls ,but the temp has dropped now so it is starting to build up ,up at Consett they have 3-4ft on the ground

well the papers say it's going to snow like the Arctic and the weatherman says no snow for my area for the rest of the week. Wonder which one I should believe

We had heavy hail thunderstorms this morning which layed on ice early this morning and on the A38 there were five 2 car crashes this morning thus sending large parts of the city into utter gridlock for most of the day.

So ... Not only has our local school remained open this week, but this lunchtime the staff were shovelling snow back onto the field so that the children who had brought sledges with them could make a decent run. Health and safety and a sensible approach to real life, all nicely balanced.

We'd make ice runs in the playground with snow and water to see who could get the longest skid. The best was those of us who had had segs fitted to our shoes to make them last better. Nobody stopped us kids from having fun then.

Sledge and tray runs on the waste ground next to the school where there were some serious slopes.

Bet the jobsworths put a stop to that these days. :(

Or perhaps it may have been over-protective parents threatening to sue the school when little Johnny/Jenny came home wet and bruised...

I don't remember my parents being worried about a few scuffs and bruises. Times change and not for the better.

agree with you on this matter.....

actually the hard shoulder was opened up to exit the motorway ,it wasn't so bad as the snow was dead slushy and melting as fast as it was coming down .
