Sandown heat attracts novice stars

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Tue

A cracking renewal of the Racing Post Henry VIII Novices' Chase is in prospect at Sandown on Saturday with nine possibles after the race was reopened.

The majority of the field are quoted in the market for the Arkle at Cheltenham in March, with most towards the head of the betting.

Alan King has two nice prospects engaged in Balder Succes and Manyriverstocross, who beat Claret Cloak on his chasing debut at Exeter.

King issues bleak Invictus update.

Alan King's stable has been left saddened by the news Invictus has badly broken down for a second time.

The seven-year-old had been off the track for 21 months after suffering an injury when beating subsequent RSA Chase and Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth in the Reynoldstown Chase in February 2012.

Juddmonte's chief executive Douglas Erskine Crum has again confirmed the powerful worldwide racing and breeding operation is not for sale.

There has been some media speculation that Khalid Abdullah could be planning to scale down his set-up, which includes farms in England, Ireland and America

Road charts route towards Becher.

Quote:

Trainer Matt Sheppard is looking forward to seeing stable star Ikorodu Road tackle the fearsome Grand National fences for the first time in the Betfred Becher Chase at Aintree on Saturday.

The four-times winner has been a superb servant to his connections down the years and appeared as good as ever when making a victorious return to action at Stratford at the end of October.

Sacre out of Tingle Creek.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Thu

Quote:

Nicky Henderson has been forced to rule Sprinter Sacre out of his intended comeback in the BetVictor Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown on Saturday.

The star of the National Hunt scene returned a dirty tracheal wash earlier in the week and his results are still not 100% leaving the champion trainer to take the agonising decision not declare his stable star.

Lantern burning bright once more.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Thu

Quote:

Sky Lantern, whose flame flickered when she 'went quiet' on arrival in Hong Kong, showed that she is now acclimatising to her new surroundings ahead of the Longines Hong Kong Mile with a pleasing visit to the training track on Thursday morning.

The 1,000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes winner looked perky in her breeze of one circuit of the Sha Tin course, with assistant trainer Richard Hannon Jnr and big race partner Richard Hughes spectating.

Murphy hit by nine-day ban

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Thu

Quote:

Timmy Murphy has been suspended for nine days following his altercation with fellow jockey Dominic Elsworth at Newbury last week.

Murphy left the track with a dislocated shoulder on Friday and it was later discovered he had been involved in a scuffle in the weighing room.

Grand National winner Murphy had to give up the ride on Our Father in Saturday's Hennessy Gold Cup and both jockeys were asked to attend an inquiry at Wincanton on Thursday.

Sire out to profit from Sacre blow

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Fri

Quote:

Sire De Grugy leads the pack looking to profit from Sprinter Sacre's misfortune in what now looks a wide-open renewal of the BetVictor Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown on Saturday.

Queen Mother Champion Chase hero Sprinter Sacre would have been a long odds-on favourite to take his unbeaten record over fences to 11, but misses out after returning a dirty tracheal wash earlier in the week.
