About time! How on earth did Sky get away with that charge in the first place!?

Also included in the deal.

They have also agreed a new long-term carriage deal for BBC services and the iPlayer on-demand service on Sky's satellite platform.

Re: General Sky TV Discussion

We may finally see the iPlayer listings now in the On Demand section allowing us to remote download BBC On Demand content.

A better relationship between the two should prove better for BBC watchers in Sky homes at last.

"Alongside this, both parties have reached an agreement that secures the long-term availability of BBC channels and BBC iPlayer on the Sky platform. We will also continue to discuss opportunities that offer Sky customers new and innovative ways to discover and consume BBC content."

Found the article interesting, especially the part about ITV:

"ITV will also benefit, saving around £2m a year after reaching an agreement with Sky last month to drop the fee as part of carriage negotiations for its pay-TV drama channel ITV Encore."

Now I can see why Encore will be exclusive on the SKY platform.

You would think Channel 4 and 5 would be also interested in some kind of an agreement to take their charges to zero , I suppose with the latter that's a question for whoever the successful bidder of Channel 5 is. I notice the UFC event in London is to be televised and available on Channel 5 , don't BT Sports hold the rights to UFC ? Am I reading to much into that ?

It is an interesting point. For some reason, and somewhat out of the blue, Channel 5 have decided to ramp up their coverage of live fight action. They are showing boxing live tonight, UFC next week followed by more live boxing on the 15th and 22nd of March. 4 Saturday nights on the trot is unheard of for them.

The whole UFC show is live on BT Sport from start to finish. Channel 5 are just showing the main event live followed by highlights. Maybe we are getting a taste of what Channel 5 could be like if BT bought them out?

A bit misleading headline.

Sky has first choice, chooses games they want. What else would they do?

Basically the paper is saying
"Hey everyone, we think you are stupid, so we write a headline to sell newspapers doh"

Just found this:

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/4de32a4c-a...#axzz2uiq88Qu2

"A trio of US cable network owners have entered the race to buy Channel 5, the UK television broadcaster owned by media baron Richard Desmond. Viacom, Discovery Communications and Scripps Networks all put forward bids for the company on Thursday."

Encore will be on SKY channel 123. Broadcasting from 2pm to 6am each day. Not a 24 hour channel from launch.
