At a guess I'd say that it's using 64mb for gfx?

My laptop has a graphics card - but it has it's own memory. I'm assuming you're shares it's memory.

Anyway - know you know why it's reporting less ram :)

Incidentally I thought (and i'm obviously wrong) that vista needed 512mb ram ro install?

It uses 600MB with a default install so it'd probably run on 256MB but with a Hell of a lot of pageing. I doubt it'd even run that well on 512.

Re: [MERGED] Windows Vista Beta 2 Download Available

Had a weird problem.Had a machine with vista and xp installed sold the guts leaving me with the spare hard drives not the os one.Funny thing is the boot loader for vista had installed itself on a dvd images hard drive and made it system so when I installed new guts and xp the vista loader was still there very confusing. Its gone now but the drive had to be installed on a different controller to confuse it,Anyone who of an easy way to get rid of the loader on a drive with no os on it??

Try fixmbr on the recovery console maybe?

Re: [MERGED] Windows Vista Beta 2 Download Available

how do you get that to fix the mbr on a non boot disk though? you open recovery and log into an os. you can bootcfg /rebuild but the rogue loader isnt recognised as an operating system

Re: [MERGED] Windows Vista Beta 2 Download Available

zapping the disk with
http://www.bttr-software.de/products/bootmgr/
should clear the mbr.

or just boot with the linux livecd and use kparted
a 'partion magic' type app for linux.
http://xmelegance.org/kparted/index.html

i think Kanotix 2005-2.iso had it on there

Re: [MERGED] Windows Vista Beta 2 Download Available

XOSL could also do it as you can write several types of bootblock to overwrite the bad one.

as could Ranish Partition Manager
