Not very imaginative are they? 'Five' was its name from 2002 to 2011, then back to channel 5, now 5. Some brand consultants are laughing all the way to the bank....

Surely they have some stats which back up these changes as they seem ridiculous.

Wouldn’t it be easier to rebrand as Paramount something?

I've had an idea for the next big rebrand. Renaming ITVX to ITV, I'm surprised they haven't thought of this already...

They have always had BBC One South East on 101 and ITV (Meridian - South Coast) on 103. Which is the same as the legacy terrestrial service. Now they also have BBC One South on 858 and ITV (Meridian - South East) on 871. So they get to choose which version of the local news they want to watch. There are some theories circulating as to why this happened but they relate to DTT rather than cable and are too complicated to try to explain here.

At DSO in 2012 the BBC decided to move the Brighton (Whitehawk Hill) transmitter group from the South to the South East region. In order to match this on cable, channel 101 from the Brighton headend was also moved from BBC South to BBC South East.

The problem is that the Brighton franchise also serves the rest of the coastal area from Worthing to Littlehampton, that did not change region on Freeview or Sky. Hence cable viewers in this area were getting the wrong BBC region. With these new varients, customers in the whole of the franchise area have both the South & South East BBC/ITV versions available wherever they are located.

The status of the HD service on Freeview may also have had an impact on this decision.

Things are always easier to understand if you rip all of the technical information out.
I didn't post this morning's changes as UKCTVC can't produce tables at the moment and there was just too much information to easily summarise before I had to go out.
As always, full technical details are available at:
https://ukcabletvchanges.blogspot.com

I'm sure they'll tidy that listing up when they have finished updating their database and can generate tables again.
