Interesting, if these appear, it looks like VM have renewed their carriage agreement with Turner.

TCM hd would be a reasonable addition - they have some good shows in amongst some decent films. TCM 2 is basically TCM +5 so should please some. Do we need cartoons in hd?

If true :tu:

I've never seen animation in HD and wouldn't have thought it made much difference, until you said otherwise.

I wonder why Smallworld are losing the Disney channels. I did think it was down to the cost, but they say it's "outside of their control", so I wonder if Disney have refused to renew the carriage agreement for some reason.

My son & daughter both have Sky & both agree that this is not a channel they use much or indeed at all. I suspect that the advertising dept. of Sky are rubbing there hands in glee at the Virgin subscribers frenzy over this channel.:dozey:

SKY Atlantic, like any other channel, has a lot of padding. There is no channel currently broadcasting that offers wall-to-wall quality 24/7. My wife is a big fan of American drama and loves Game of Thrones, Blue Bloods and The Newsroom. I prefer the likes of The British, Alan Partridge and look forward to Vegas and The Following. The channel isn’t for everyone however if you like American programming or innovative drama no other channel does it better in the UK than SKY Atlantic. The list of shows on the channel is pretty impressive:

The question you need to ask is would the addition of SKY Atlantic add value or improve Virgins current channel and on demand line-up? The answer has got to be yes.

Smallworld owner has confirmed on DS Forum that 'Apparently someone at Disney has decided they only want to deal with the largest operators.'

If you have time on your hands, I cant be bothered. look at the posts last year & get the percentage of correct ones. I guess the need to take "lucky guesses " into account. Would be a variable factor as well. Was always told never ask a question you don`t know answer to.In this case I will make an exception.

Richard, I am beginning to think you are losing the plot, old chap. I do not have an unhealthy obsession with what you watch on TV.

My point is that you have attempted to discredit Al Jazeera with a comment on its 'subtle bias' and you appear never to have watched the channel. You have not backed up your comment with any credible sources and it just seems to have come out of nowhere, which to me indicates a subtle nationalistic bias on your part.

I don't care that you haven't watched the channel (I don't think you would have been so cagey about the question had you in fact done so - it's a simple yes or no).

I have worked out for myself that your comment was made without your having even watched the channel so we can take your criticism as not having much credibility.

That is all. What a fuss!

We all know there is a lot of padding on this channel, as there is on all the Sky channels and other digital channels.

The point is that there are some good programmes on there over time, including Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Game of Thrones and so on that some of us would like to see.

As I said used this weeks TV guide & the only thing that jumped out was repeats of shows & general padding. So would it add value to Virgins line up,not if it cost me a cent extra.:dozey:
Answer again is on the face of what I see & the admittedly only the one day I had to use Sky NO .
If its so good perhaps it could be a stand alone channel. No problem with that from my point of view. It would be interesting to see how many would then take it.

What a stupid thing to do, especially in a recession. As Dave from Smallworld said, Disney don't have to do anything, just accept the monthly payments from the operators.

It does make one wonder. Are VM fleecing their customers.

They also offer SKY Sports & SKY Movies for £29.50 per month. It does make Virgins prices look extortionate and makes you wonder how much cheaper Virgin could offer the channels to their customers, if they really wanted to.

If BT Sports does come to Virgin this summer I bet Virgin charge more than any other provider for the channel. That is of course unless it's added to the XL package. Don't hold your breath!

I repeat at what cost ? Seems to have been enough complaints about price increases here.Would you really want to add- I guess, no reason, pulled out of the air.£10 per month to get it:confused:

I'm not advocating that we should pay an extortionate amount for this channel, and you will know from my previous posts that I am not blaming Virgin Media for this situation.

I think after recent price hikes Virgin should have enough money in the coffers to add SKY Atlantic at no extra cost.

The only place currently offering SKY Atlantic programming, legally, without a SKY subscription is Blinkbox.

http://www.blinkbox.com/Search?Search=hbo

They are charging £1.89 per episode or up to £19.99 for a full series, and people are actually paying this! If Virgin could add SKY Atlantic resulting in a £1 increase for all customers it would be tremendous value, especially to current Virgin customers paying £1.89 per episode of the likes of Game of Thrones via Blinkbox.

Of course people not interested in the channel wouldn't be as happy.

Extra channels at more EXTRA cost. You are right I for one would not be happy. At no extra cost had what ever they like. Unlikely I would watch as I can not fit in what I have at the moment :D

I note that you are a Sky customer, perhaps you need to prove that Sky have channels that every one SHOULD want. Well I dont.

What will happen to Virgin Media - do you think Disney see them as an 'Wee Cable operator'?

Probably. ;)
If they pulled off Cable how many would that push to Sky. In our home it would I am afraid be on the table. Disney is well watched - Good grief I know more of actors names in their shows than ones on BBC

Maybe "Smallworld" is giving out the wrong message and should rename themselves to "Largeworld"... ;)
