Look like Sky Cinema Hits HD was moving about on Virgin Media last night as it was my box for an hour.

The last time it happen was the time Zee Channels was moved and the Zee channels you need to pay extra for was on my box for an hour as well.

I do not pay for Sky Cinema or Zee.

Had more info on the WWE network rumour on vm v6 boxes the source has said WWE Network should be on vms v6 box by the end of October this year.
We shall see.

Well spotted.

The changes are:

Spanish Tier, Portuguese Tier, French Tier, Polish Tier and Russian Tier move from Transport Stream 1, Service IDs 117, 118, 119, 120 & 123 to Transport Stream 104 Service IDs 10457, 10458, 10459, 10460 & 10461 respectively.

There are further services set up on TS 104, so more of this migration to follow.

TS ID 8 Service 801 has changed its service name from TalkingPicturesTV to Talking Pictures.

Any other service name changes were temporary re-brands, which I will continue to ignore.

Sky Hits HD moves from TS ID 23 SID 2303 to TS ID 24 SID 2404.

4SevenHD moves from TS ID 35 SID 3503 to TS ID 38 SID 3803.

No major changes for VM customers, just more channels playing the game of musical chairs.

I look forward to this and lots of new on demand (including UHD) coming to our screens this year. If this doesn't happen, I will be very disappointed with VM.

I want VM to be a successful company, making good profits, so it can give us more choice and afford the best technology to provide to its customers. The scandal of those cranky old Tivo boxes must never be allowed to happen again.

Streaming apps would be an essential aspect of the strategy that I would propose, which should please everyone. For example, Pluto tv is a streaming service with a range of live channels on it, which are not available on Sky. Much more of this sort of thing would be very popular, and Pluto tv is free!

It will have a really good appeal to the You Tube generation. There's something there for most tastes - politics, music, comedy. Worth having, IMHO.

Oh, right ; sorry, I misread your post.

What I meant was that I'd like to see many apps loaded onto the V6s, with free, pay per view and subscription based apps available.

A small ammount of UHD content is expected this year via on demand, we've been told 1 part time UHD channel too we think it may be Eurosport.
@OB Sky Atlantic well Dave can answer that for you guys lol.
But that is not info we have a clue is a big price shake up.

The VIP has not gone down in price but it's common knowledge that the 20 per cent discount is there for VIP

Well there will be 5 channels and you pay for the ones you want, but I believe the individual channel is expensive

That's right, but the big question is whether we can get a deal with Sky and BT. There are other options VM can look at to provide us with more UHD material, but of course the hold those two companies have over film and sports rights mean that what we may secure in terms of UHD programming may not be exactly what we expected without such a deal.

My hope, given the reluctance (particularly by Sky, but understandably emulated by BT so they can compete) is that Netflix or Discovery enter into the bidding process for Premier League football and either Netflix or Amazon wrest the contracts with the film studios away from Sky. What that will do to prices, I don't know, but at the very least, Sky, Virgin and BT viewers would have the same access, and all in UHD.

I am afraid that all these contracts still have a few years to run, but hopefully we can ultimately look forward to fairer distribution arrangements in the UK as a result.

Given the price of sport, I would have thought that this would be a part of a different package if the sports rights went to Netflix. A huge part of the population (myself included) do not watch sport at all and would not wish to pay more because of it.

Whether you like Sport or not you ultimately end up paying for it one way or another through subscription increases even if you don't take the Sports channels.

Well, certainly you are on Virgin, because of the wholesale deal with BT. To a lesser extent on Sky, taking account of channels like Eurosport in the bundle.

That doesn't mean that companies like Netflix would emulate this practice; I certainly hope not.

muppetman11 14-06-2017 10:33

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

I never meant VM , all providers increase costs when their content costs increase. Whether you like Premier League football or not it's odds on your paying for it on platforms that carry the Sports channels.

a516Digital is reporting that TiVo and V6 viewers will get 15 live HD Streams during the Wimbledon fortnight.

All other viewers will get up to six SD streams (5 new one if you take away Red Button 1).

MB HQ think we have work out the channels numbers for the new red button channels for Summer 2017:

990. BBC Red Button HD*
991. BBC Red Button 1
992. BBC Red Button 2*
993. BBC Red Button 3*
994. BBC Red Button 4*
995. BBC Red Button 5*
996. BBC Red Button 6*

That's only 6 - the article said 15 streams. Are you not 9 streams short?

6 will be on all Virgin Media boxes.

15 will be on TiVo OR V6 boxes*.

*you will need to "Press Red" to watch 9 streams.

So I'd expect that means the extra streams on TiVo and V6 are via the BBC Red Button+ i.e are via the broadband connection and not broadcast streams.

Let's hope they are better quality than previous years.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

BBC apps on both TiVo and V6 use HLS adaptive streaming as far as I'm aware - this is why you get the 'Best Quality' video option in the BBC apps:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/h...no_hdswitch_tv

So they should be able to cope better with changing network demands.

However it will also be dependent on what quality the BBC are putting out in the first place!

Nice to see these two companies co-operating these days. Does anyone know when VM's contract with Sky comes up for renewal? Is it some time in 2018?

You will be pleased to note that I am not in an argumentative mood today!

UPDATE: The answer, it seems, is that Sky's carriage deal with Virgin Media comes up for renewal in 2019. I doubt we will get any UHD channels or on demand material from Sky before then, sadly. But it does give Sky the initial exclusivity they want.

Too right OB. Don't know how anyone can complain about having an extra film channel. Those that don't subscribe to Sky movies have been sold a bit short by VM in recent years.

As for Blaze, not my cup of tea. But the more options the better to keep everyone happy. If only we could have a crap channel button to block out channels we're not interested in. I'd be blocking about 90% of them.

You have - set up the ones you want under favourites then you only need to look through them on the EPG.

I think BLAZE is actually a fairly worthwhile addition, for all of us that aren't on the Full House package. We don't get History, Crime + Investigation or Lifetime so this channel provides a selection of content from those channels. It is also a Freeview channel so it's only right that it should be provided on Virgin Media.

Fair enough, if this brings some new programming into the lower packages.

Excellent stumble,UC!

This is exactly the kind of thing Virgin should be organising. I do hope that there is a lot going on behind the scenes that will surprise us all later this year.

Yes, you will find some of the programmes aired by ITV Encore in the ITV Collections section of on demand. However, they were all repeats from the main ITV channel the last time I looked, but new stuff like The Americans, which is what we need, cannot be found there..
