Only really would want SS 3 and 4 HD but not a big concern. Not bothered about Atlantic at all. So think my Coming Soon thread moaning days are over lol :D

It's impossible to work out exactly how much this will cost, per head, to people on the XL package.

For what's its worth, its around £3.50 per month per XL subscriber, but your right, we don't know how many people on M/L will subscribe. Not many on L I suspect, cheaper to upgrade to XL.

A great deal for both companies. My 'best case' scenario was for the content to be included in XL, with the HD channels costing extra, but we even got them!

I have a feeling BT will just get paid £75mill regardless of subscribers, I reckon that's the deal they have done, which is a good for virgin!

Same here, not bothered about Atlantic but sky sports 3 in HD is sorely needed as sky always put man utd champions league matches on 3, just to wind up the most people.

This is a great deal and something that would never have happened under the old guard before the takeover. This deal is strong enough to stop people subscribing to Sky sports and just go with XL which will hurt Sky in the long run.

So where you have the Sky channels if there is a HD channel you will also get the HD channel to go with it. This will start to be implemented and should be complete within the next 2 years. Ambiguous I know but watch this space.

Hopefully that would mean premium HD channels will come with the SD versions, cos its not really worth an extra £7.

Yes, it is, I was convinced that we wouldn't get BT Sport, so i negotiated a reduction on my payments and was offered an upgrade to 60 meg broadband.

I kept XL pack though and got BT SPORT!

No it's £75m per year not in total, i.e. £225m for the 3 years.

at £3 per XL customer assuming 2m customers that's £72m per year, so top up with extra sub from some customers on M it does sound about right.

BT paid £736m for PL rights and £125m for rugby and untold for other rights ESPN and untold for studio and production team. I guess not much change from £1 Billion. So VM in effect covering 20-25% of BT costs plus BT get extra sponsor and ad money.

We've had a right result today with regard to BT Sports. Do we think that wanting the "other" channels is going to happen when at the same time Sky are being slagged off?

I know a lot of this is banter, however, reading some of the posts since this announcement........ well, I'm still hoping for more additions.

I'm also aware that deals are not based on what is said on threads like this lol;)

Keep up the great work VM.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.

I agree that the comments have generally been in good spirits. However, Colin25 and Nstokes have had their fair share of good spirited, banter filled posts in the past few weeks. I personally don't think anyone has gone too far either way though:-)
I am just happy for all the customers who wanted BT Sports on VM and have got it hassle free, on the TV anywhere app and in various rooms, unlike said previous posters;-)
Despite not caring before getting BT sports, I am happily watching the t20 on BT Sport 2HD. If we lost it tomorrow though, I doubt I would miss it too much - just the rugby really.
With regards to prices, all business put up prices regularly. I work in food retail and many prices rise drastically very often and frequently (certainly more than 3 times a year, like VM last year). Customers rarely moan in this instance because they understand electricity, gas, water ingredients etc all go up as well. For some reason it is wrong for VM to do it. VM's prices will go up too, but it does not mean it is just because of BT sports arriving.
If howard is right, (it firstly makes a previous post of mine regarding Sky Atlantic redundant) it is more likely any increases will be due to the possible and/or probable arrival of Sky Atlantic onto the platform.
Bomber, I can see sky and VM destroying Netflix etc, by giving the option of paying for only the channels/programmes you want to watch, when you want to watch them. I.E. you could pay Sky £10 a month just to watch various new shows on Atlantic and then watch FTA channels for the rest of the week!

Cheers bud and welcome to the site as I have stated in previous post I just struck lucky with a couple of phone conversations I had with certain vm employees and even thou the info I was given was not guaranteed it was what was planned and still is,bomber and in particular the great mb are the ones more in the know.i was reluctant to post info just in case it went pair shape and was shot down, there are a decent bunch of people on this forum who are vm and sky customers and the majority of them I consider friends I do feel bad that I didn't tell everyone but as I explained I had my reason but did post cryptic messages.Anyway sorry for boring you and once again welcome to the forum, let the good times roll ;)

Just said the same to a VM CS rep on the phone. I can't get tv anywhere to work on any device (for my brother if he wants it) She seemed quite grateful. She was more grateful though when I said her and her colleagues should give themselves a big pat on the back today, as I imagine they would have had a torrid time over the last few weeks. She said they did take some abuse and were finally relieved to get BT Sports.

The patience of the majority of VM CS staff must be at a level I could not dream of achieving. :)

New ad by Virgin for BT sport http://www.marketingmagazine.co.uk/a...-bt-sport-push

I'm liking the fact they've wasted no time in starting to market this. Certainly is a great coup for them.

Media Boy mad half hour.

The end to 2013 will be good to find out:

-If any new Sky branded channels will launch by September 15th?
-What will launch on Virgin Channel 199?
-What will Virgin do when they get up to Channel 207?

Seen rumour yesterday that Virgin Media are in talks with them for it.

But it look like Virgin Media has given it to someone right now - if they did not Alibi HD would have launch at Channel 199.

What on earth is slater?

I'm hungover after the wine yesterday. What's next for our predictions? Sky Atlantic completes everything. All what's left is hd channels which I'm overly concerned by.

Have you heard anything recently media boy except for talks ongoing?

it not 'slater'

it an new channel from Channel 5 called '5 Later'.

it will be like 4Seven.

I mean you may get to watch 'Home and Away' at 10pm on 5 Later when it launches on Freeview and maybe Virgin Media and Sky.

The Sky channels are likely to be Sky Atlantic/HD and Sky Bravo. Not sure if the latter will be ready to go by 15 September but my understanding is that the launch has been delayed to allow negotiations with Virgin Media to be completed. So yes, that is my prediction.

I still think Sky will close Sky2 to make room on Sky for Sky Bravo to launch - if they do not Sky Bravo will launch on Sky Channel 29x plus Sky will need to buy an channel number from an other broadcaster.

I.E. you could pay Sky £10 a month just to watch various new shows on Atlantic and then watch FTA channels for the rest of the week!

people "expect" prices to rise in line with inflation.

3 price rises in a year equating to 11% either have to come with added value or be seen to be absolute rip offs.

Nialli makes a good point about one more channel to go before VM have 50 HD channels. Not forgetting we'll no doubt be getting BBC THREE, BBC FOUR, BBC NEWS 24 and the CBBC channels in HD in the next 6 months or so.

I remember the days when we only had BBC HD and no Sky, we have come a long way.

Still can't get over the BT deal. ESPN America HD was top of my channel list for a long time so it was it a joy to able to watch MLB games in HD last night, even though my team lost right at the end.

It not the real free day as Sky are just rebroadcasting Sky Sports 1 on Sky2 for 12 hours.

For all we know if ESPN did not sell out to BT we may have ended up with ESPN America HD as ESPN deal with Virgin Media ended on July 31st 2013.

a truly sensational piece of business by virgin media. i'd love to know how it all transpired. it goes completely against BT's business model. did bt fold at the last? Did virgin make concessions about the price to pay? was the deal already agreed months ago ala bomberAF rumour.

No. I don't think that will influence Sky at all. And Sky are fighting BT these days - Virgin Media is more a partner in the pay TV market for them, rather than a competitor. They each need the other.
The trade journal Broadcast reported on Sky discussing Atlantic with VM back in June (it wasn't BomberAF who started that particular story) and there were reports in other trade press last year that Sky had decided to wholesale the channel to other carriers.
I'm hopeful we'll see it on VM within a month but I don't have any inside info on that other than that posted on CF by HowardMicks and BomberAF.
But you definitely won't see Sky channels in HD on BT, nor Sky1, Atlantic or any of the others, even in SD

Heard someone in Tesco this morning moaning about having to pay for BT Sports when Virgin customers get it free. When the person he was with said didn't he have Virgin, he said no he had cancelled on August 2 and had SKY installed on the 9th. I laughed to myself over it all. He was going to try cancelling SKY today to go back to Virgin, doubt he will have much luck though.

Do we know what the situation is with sports rights which will be broadcast on ESPN? I thought ESPN would just be ESPN america and was going through the football tonight and have found french football is actually being broadcast on ESPN tonight. Is all french football on ESPN?

Might get a bit confusing if its not...

Yes, you're right, I was forgetting about the HD variants, including Sky Sports 3 and 4 HD! I was thinking really just about the brand new channels.

I am optimistic about getting all of the Sky HD channels now in September.

Oh, and I haven't ruled out the possibility of getting Sky 3D either, although that is probably a big ask!

be interesting to know

I think BT's strategy was aimed mainly at Sky, who had nicked a fair proportion of their broadband customers!

I think that this may mark a turning point, with the lesson learned by Sky that their aggressive commercial tactics can misfire.

That can only be good for all of us.

Might get a bit confusing if its not...

Yes it's all very confusing.

This seasons FA cup is on ESPN but the following season it's on BT Sport.

I guess if BT had not bought ESPN, ESPN would have had to put this seasons FA Cup rights to tender and BT risk losing them to Sky or paying more.

I imagine BT agreed to buy ESPN to avoid this and for ESPN it allowed them to exit the market with minimal exit costs. If ESPN had just closed down this year they would have had to deal with expensive exit clauses for contracts with suppliers, production teams and staff etc.. instead they can now just TUPE the staff to BT. For the French league and some others I imagine ESPN's contract agreed to show a minimum number of matches on the channel so I imagine that's what they will do and any on top of that quota would be free to show on BT sport.

I might be wrong but having worked in contracting and dealt with TUPE etc.. I'd imagine it's something like this. Hence apparent cheap price ESPN was sold for.

Is ESPN here to stay or will it disappear next year when it doesn't have any fa cup rights? or is it contractually obliged to stay as part of bt sports offering.
