Nah no knowledge. I am just believing, and trusting what BomberAF said sometime back, MB's claims from his insiders and the news from a couple of the newbies about hanging fire for a week before they leave. This time next week I believe I will be getting very good value from VM:)

Chin up Howard, look at how long it took Sky to strike a deal, it must only have been a couple of months back. They only got it on a normal deal. I reckon VM will announce an awesome deal for us very shortly:) I also believe Bomber when he says they cannot say anything due to BT/Sky contracts:)

Today would be a lovely day to announce BT sports coming to virgin media on the XL package. I could celebrate by drinking copious amounts of alcohol tonight.

I'd even get a virgin media tattoo on my buttocks if they can announce it today.

My EPG now shows as of 01/08/2013
ESPN America = No programe information
ESPN Classic = This channel will no longer be available

ESPN HD & SD = Normal Tv listings ??

Does this mean an announcement is due any time soon ??

Probably going to be disapointed but at least you will not have to get the tattoo done.

Can't see anything being announced by or on 1st August, would like to be suprised but have my ear to the ground on all this stuff and have heard nothing apart from they are in discussion with both Sky and BT

I am really starting to think that poster who started this rumour about the channel launches on August 1st is right.

Maybe Virgin cant confirm them launching due to the deals they have signed with broadcasters.

Here is what BomberAF posted: http://www.vmhd.blogspot.co.uk/2013/...coming-in.html

Sincere apologies if this question has been asked a thousand times....

If ESPN America is to stop broadcasting in the UK, who will show live MLB games? Or will the UK no longer MLB games?

Aye if it has been a deal made then sky and bt will want to continue their aggressive propaganda till the day before the channel launches. I'd love to know how many people have switched over

Aye i may look into that. I'm not overly bothered by HD channels and haven't been caught up in the "magic".

what would be truly epic in its failure would be if virgin media were literally just stringing us all along and there was no news or secret deals... i'd be devastated. More devastated than watching a puppy die of a broken heart

If that scenario was to come to fruition then l would not like to be in Virgin's shoes but somehow l cannot see that happening unless VM are extremely dumb and want to clearly lose quite a few customers.

Stock prices in VM have been steadily going up, either we can expect something good or to see them dramatically fall next Thursday.

Regardless, the deal will be strictly embargoed so the investors won't find out any sooner than us customers

Thinking about these channels testing, if they were just shopping channels or +1's etc because we usually know what channels are coming quite a bit before they do unless ofcause it's a very very big channel

Think a lot of us will be. Apart from rumours, there are scant indications of VM coming up with the goods. I understand the need for confidentiality if a deal has been done for BT Sport, but human nature being what is is, they have either not even told their staff of the deal - or they haven't done one.

Agreed. Shopping channels tend to be known about in advance. Big channels are not announced until their arrival is absolutely certain.

Sorry Nick that is simply not true. VM have made huge strides this year in channels and are in a much stronger position than they were. The BT farce (sorry the whole thing from the bidding for the rights to the selling of the channels is a total farce) is a problem but as others have pointed out it is BT's loss if they do not let the channels onto cable. The pathetic new bb customer figure of 23k means VM may be in a position to do a deal.;)

Yes John I am hopeful too. I agree also with those who say VM will have goofed badly if it turns out that there will be neither BT Sport nor Sky Atlantic as the talks must be close on both or have been agreed. If one collapses it is credible but not both.

Just curious.

What would people rather see?

BT included in XL as ESPN was OR BT Sports available as a stand alone at the extra price but with Atlantic , History , Universal etc. added to replace ESPN in the XL TV pack.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

Why on earth would BT Sports be included in XL, it's entire existence is based around people moving to BT BB to get it free

They're not going to let you watch it without BT BB without paying £12/£15.

Good lord.

Possibly true too but if you're wrong good sir it truly will be clobbering time for you on the forum!

So BT want to sell the channel themselves but they can't because cable doesn't work like that, so they're going to put it on XL? Where the hell is the logic in that?

They want broadband customers or money, being in XL gets them none of the first and very little of the second.

being in XL BT get a wholesale price from VM and lot more in tv advertising revenue too don't think BT shareholders will be happy spending all that money on football for no return as take up not been that great so far has it

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

I for one would be happy to see BT sports as an optional add on.
People would then be free to evaluate the content, and decide if the additional cost is value for money or not.

I love sports and enjoy Sky sports, but would check the content before committing to any additional cost for BT.

Sky Atlantic could be included in VIP collection, using the savings made from ESPN.

Another possibility is that Virgin could offer both BT and VA free for the first year, provided that a new contract is signed. Thus protecting revenue against any additional costs.

Right, I think ESPN got about 30p or something per XL customer. Virgin has about 4 million customers so let's assume 30% have XL.

That would get them £360,000 a month, the same as 30,000 customers at £12 a month (or 24,000 HD customers at £15).

Somehow I can imagine there will be a lot more people than 30,000 wanting BT Sport on Virgin.

Didnt BomberAF say an announcement would be made 1 week before channels goes live?

Yeah, very little... Only a good cut of a several million XL/VIP subscriptions.

Simple maths, say for example receiving £7 per month per XL/VIP sub, of which there about probably at least 1.6 million out of the 3.2m customers is considerably greater than 20,000-30,000 separate subs of £12-£15. BT will make far more money from it being in a collection than sold separate. Don't see what people aren't understanding about this?

Only 23,000 have signed up via Sky (without being BT BB users), so even that estimate of Virgin subscribers is large at this point. Could change as the season draws closers but I doubt more than 30k people would subscribe on Virgin.

I dont. ESPN Classic and ESPN America cease broadcasting in Uk and ESPN is still broadcasting. It could just be that it has to have EPG info until channel comes off VM or even needs EPG info due to other TV platforms

And also Virgin has updated the listings for both ESPN America and ESPN Classic over the past week.

TiVo viewers posted on July 19th at Listings was still showing on both of them.

If ESPN and ESPN was set to close on Virgin Media all the listing would have says 'This channel will no longer be available'.

Lets say that vigin have done a deal but due to contract can't reveal anything yet, BT have virgins hands tied until the date, this doesn't mean that rumours couldn't be initiated to suggest to customers that something will be coming, rumours conveyed by e.g. BomberAF

I have just checked Sky EPG for ESPN Classic and ESPN America and from 6am 1st Aug it shows "..programmes no longer available"

If this is the same on VM EPG then this is reflecting what i am saying

ESPN got 30p per XL sub, why on gods earth would they then give BT £7 per sub.

Boxnation confirmed to me back in 2011 that VM charge the customer. When Boxnation first launched it was free on SKY for the first 3 months. Boxnation also offered the next 6 months for the price of 5 to SKY customers signing up for the channel. When I asked them would VM customers get the same deal, Boxnation confirmed VM have control over any deals or even price they charge for the channel!

If we were getting the channels and they were going to cost £12 or £15 I'm pretty sure we would have found out by now. The reason we might not have heard anything yet is they may be annoucing other stuff which isn't set in stone yet, one thing may be this android app for tivo

Well they are going to say that, then you sign up with them. Remember what Bomber said, the deal meant they could aggressively target VM customers. Also the Facebook team are not going to be privvy to a deal.

VM buy Boxnation at a wholesale price from the current owners of the channel and sell it onto their own customers.

BT have shown an interest in buying Boxnation. If they do, we will possibly see Boxnation bundled in with the BT Sport channels. This will be in the same way that several channels were marketed under the Setanta brand and cuts back office costs.

Who knows, maybe we will eventually see Boxnation included in XL...
