For people who haven't received an offer email yet it does say in the previous email that offer emails will be sent out during the week beginning 11th April. There is always tomorrow. Fingers crossed

If my installation date is a month away, will the activation fee be put on my next bill (2 weeks before installation), or the bill after that (2 weeks after installation)?

They didn't know and passed me onto the sales team, who after 10 minutes on hold, basically said 'dunno mate, carry on waiting.'

I was gonna wait until tomorrow morning, as DF suggested, but there's no way I'll have the time to call VM from work then (especially if it ends up being a 30 minute call, as my earlier call was).

Email arrived this evening - called and installation fixed for next Tuesday which is quicker than I thought. Also keeping the existing V+Box, (which will be moved upstairs) and the bill is reduced by £3 per month - including the additional TiVo charge.

You should not be disappointed as I was not after years of using the V+ box. I still have the V+ which I have not used very much since having the TIVO installed.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

TiVo survey hints at multiroom companion box, four tuner DVR in the future
Quote:

There were mainly two questions. The first wanted a numerical rating from 0 to 100 for two options. The only stipulation was that the total of the two ratings summed to 100.

(1) A companion device for your DVR. It allows a second TV (in another room) to watch live TV (in HD) and also watch the recordings from your DVR.
(2) A 4-tuner high-definition DVR that allows you to record up to 4 shows at one time (and watch a 5th show that is previously recorded).

The second question provided a more extensive list of features which we were to choose those we thought interesting. Again, from that subset, we were to provide numerical ratings that summed to 100.

(1) Sort your recordings by season and episode number. For example, if you recorded 20 episodes of The Simpsons on your DVR, this feature would allow you to browse and watch them from earliest season to latest.

(2) Mark on demand movies you want to watch in the future. Come back to that list later, when you are ready to watch and see all the movies you previously marked.

(3) For channels you receive in HD, automatically hide the standard definition versions from the onscreen program guide.

(4) When searching for a movie or show, if it isn't available to watch or record now, have an option to save this search and automatically record it if it becomes available in the future.

(5) Customize a list of shortcuts to your favorite tasks (such as: go to the Search feature, go to Netflix Instant) and access it using a dedicated button on the remote control.

(6) Ability to watch recorded TV shows and movies from any connected DVR in your home, without having to copy the show to the DVR you are using.

(7) From any one DVR in your home, view a single, integrated list of *all* the TV shows and movies that have been recorded on any DVR in the home.

(8) When searching for a specific TV show or movie, if it is not available from a channel or video provider I currently get, list other ways I could get it, such as subscribing to a premium channel or signing up for a different video provider (Netflix, Hulu)

(9) When a conflict prevents a show from being scheduled, suggest another DVR in the home that is available to record it.

(10) Find and record upcoming sporting events by specific league or team.

(11) When browsing the onscreen program guide, see at a glance what programs the DVR recommends for you based on shows and actors you have enjoyed in the past.

(12) Organize and view your recorded shows in different ways (to include: shows you already started watching, all sports together, all movies together).

(13) Ability to see a list of live TV shows and movies that are: playing now, available on favorite channels, popular, liked by friends, or new.

(14) When looking for a movie or show to watch, see the available programs ordered by time: What is free & on right now, from on demand, or can be recorded later this week.

(15) When setting up recordings, display *all* conflicting programs and choose exactly which programs to record and which to skip.

(16) Set up a recording for specific seasons of a TV show, instead of all episodes (e.g. record only Season 1 of Lost).

(17) Customize a list of shortcuts to your favorite tasks (such as: go to the Search feature, go to Netflix Instant) and access it from the DVR's main screen.

(18) In the onscreen program guide, group channels affiliated with the same network (NBC, HBO, etc.) together in the guide, even if they have widely separated channel numbers.

(19) Record every episode of a TV show on every channel that it appears on.

(20) View a 3-line "mini Guide" while watching live TV, displaying 3 channels of program guide information at a time, so that more of the show you are watching is visible.

(21) Use search to find a particular station (like HBO, NBC or ESPN). Selecting a channel from the results takes you directly to live TV for that channel.

received the email @ 3.30 today, it contained the phone number to call & the unique code. i called @ 5pm, got through within minutes & spoke to a lovely person who sorted everything out within 20 minutes. tivo is being installed on saturday between 1-6pm. she ran through all of the charges & how they will be implemented, double checked that i understood & offered me 215 minutes per month on 0845 numbers etc for an extra £2 per month. my wife wasn't interested, so that's that. bearing in mind that some have said on here they are allowed to transfer their existing box to say a bedroom @ no extra charge, i asked her what would happen to my box. she said the technician would take it away. so is that it? will i be called by the sales team & be offered this?

There aren't any 1080p TV channels. 1080i is the best TV we get at the moment, so 1080i is correct

Your TV may be able to do 1080p, but the signal it's getting is 1080i (assuming that's what Tivo is set to)

If you aren't going you have to go next year! :D There is a lot to take in but the Super Theatre (which is a separate ticket) is well worth the visit.

Got our e-mail this afternoon. Neither of the choices I selected were available, so I have ended up with an install on Thursday 28th April. Might as well have not bothered asking when I wanted it haha!

I assumed the initial sign up would have reserved that date and someone at the other end just has to press and OK button to approve it...obviously not ;)

You can't 'phone for it, you have to be offered by sales. You will be contacted in due course. Just trying to get the installs sorted first! :)

Hi, DF could you please see if you can give any answers to these:

1, will there be a pre reg for the 500gb?

2, is the difference purely the size of the hard drive?

3, If i got the "Baby" Tivo could i keep my V+ and get rid of my old samsung stb without additional cost
Thanks in advance for your help

1. I don't think so.

2. SP has answered this one

3. Just to clarify, what additional cost are you talking about? Monthly or one-off?

As I was still waiting to get an installation date I phoned the TIVO team again this morning and was passed over to someone in Sales who has given me Tuesday 19th April for installation. I am having our existing V+ box moved to replace our standard box, so that will just mean an extra £3 a month I think, plus the price of the TIVO box of course.

The Sales team tried to sell me some extra phone deal and also a mobile phone at the same time, I do hate it when they do that.

I just hope the installation date is right as you don't seem to get a confirmation email, so just relying on the details given to me over the phone.

You will be OK they will show up and stop fretting mate. The installation should only take about a hour and the main part of that is the download of the data!

FINALLY spoke to the Tivo Team who now say i will lose my 'loyalty' discount if i take the Tivo!

is the loyalty discount the same as a bundle discount? I spoke to cs yesterday to move my installation date and lady confirmed my new monthly bill which will be £9.50 extra to what im paying now as I expected so I've not lost my discount.

I find it incredible that we are still getting conflicting information on this very important issue.

The outcome can influence the decision on whether customers take Tivo or not.:(

Phoned the TiVo team and have been told that if I did not get the email, then I will need to wait until Monday and join the general rush. Problem is I am away all next week, so I dread to think how long the queue will be when I do manage to book an install.

Not happy.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

All installed. Had a few hiccups, but our house always does seem to give them a bit of trouble. Signal levels all ok, but boxes were pretty unresponsive compared to others he'd installed, so had a bit of a worry. Some playing around and everything is perfect on the downstairs TiVo (obviously still downloading). He got an error on the upstairs one to say it was incorrectly registered on the account so he called to sort it and they are sending new hits. Everything still downloading well so he's 'closed' the call and gone to his next ones and will give me a ring in a couple of hours to check that it's all finished up ok. If not he'll come back and troubleshoot.

So - a couple of questions. I've seen a link to the codes to programme the remote to turn the TV off and on and control the sound, but can't find it - does anyone know it off the top of their head (and the keys to use to turn TV on/off).

I read wayyy back on the other thread that you can actually see somewhere what all 3 tuners are on and choose from them before changing channel that way you get their buffer if it's something you want to watch - where do I find this. The guy was very knowledgeable but this was something he hadn't come across when I asked.

Thanks as always :)

TV on/off if programmed is holding down "TV"

To see whats on other tuners, press "INFO" and scroll down to "RRR", this will show what channels the tuners are on and allow you to switch between them

Thanks DF. Just a quick question - To get the free multiroom offer, should I select "Add a TiVo" with the indictated £6.50 charge, or select "Upgrade" and wait to be offered the multiroom?

Good question....I think you should just select "upgrade" and sales will call you back regarding the offer to keep the box.

Silly really!:)

I had my install yesterday after phoning up on Tuesday to upgrade to VIP50.

Was a little worried when it got to 12:20 so I rang customer services and as luck would have it the engineer phoned to say he was on his way just as the CS chap said he'd give him a ring.

It was really interesting to watch the install. The engineer, his boss and his bosses boss (the last two had just been on training so were out to see how an install is done) did a top job. Split the cable for the V+ box moving to the bedroom, changed the BB/TV splitter, and had to do a lot of signal checking because my levels seem to be pretty low.

They were a good little team. Clearly got on well and had good banter. Engineer was called James which caused a bit of confusion with that being my name as well. I went to get a screwdriver at one point much to their amusement :D The top boss was called Pavel. Funny (haha) chap. Saw a couple of my photos from Iceland and said he's going to go there on the ferry so he can take his car!

Anyway (I'm getting a bit carried away!), the install took a couple of hours what with all the checking of the signal, etc. Certainly a 10/10 job.

Now I just need to figure out how to get the girlfriend to pay a bit more of the monthly subscription ;)

After complaining about the fact that CS wouldn't let me order on the phone even though I'm authorised on the account - a very helpful staff member on the VM Community Forum looked into it for me and I now have an install date on my requested date of 23rd April (instead of May 6th emailed to me yesterday) - result! ;)

I think some of the confusion over upgrade billing is between bundle discounts (for instance, I have XL Triple Saving on my bill) and loyalty discounts (I know I was confused until I checked my bill). It appears that we keep bundle discounts, but some people are losing loyalty discounts.

Any VM staff, please feel free to correct my misconception if necessary.

I've just had a confusing email from VM about Tivo.

I ordered online and requested Tues 26th April 8:00 - 13:00 and 13:00 - 18:00.

The email I received says congratulations, the charge will appear on your next bill. We are sending one of our technicians round on 19/04/2011 6PM to install.

Does this sound right, or is this a mistake in the email (I am at work at the moment so can't check this; I will tonight if I don't get a response here). That date and time would be ideal if it's true.
