The fact that TiVo has been their main priority for the past year or so I can understand the lack of new content, hopefully new channels HD as well will arrive in the final 5 months of the year, alot I suppose depends on any exclusive contracts with $ky, once there up then VM will be free to add them as long as the price is right.

No as in you have no idea what may or may not be coming along. Really, I'm all for positive comments, but your unrelenting (and somewhat inane) comments praising every aspect of VM in general and Tivo in particular is wearing pretty thin.

Almost every thread that states an issue with Tivo invariably has a post from you saying how wonderful yours is. If I was a less charitable person I'd think you were just taking the mick ;)

Thankfully, the pros and cons of Tivo have been very well presented by other, less slavish, members, which has helped a lot.

Not at the moment but I'm sure VM will ensure its in place for the start of the premier league, if they don't then that's some UBER fail after selling it to current customers promising them a new amazing experience.

I believe you get to keep your V+hd, so just swap the boxes around untill its released for Tivo.

I'm like you, it is a deal breaker but there are ways around it.

I didn't get a TiVo as I wanted the red button for the extras on SkySports Cricket coverage ie the Stats etc and the announcements said the red button was coming/available

however every program I have tried esp Crickets Tests and ODIs the red button on has NOT had any red button service so I am well unhappy

I have :-

1. no proper Red Button service on Sky Sports and

2. No Tivo box

is there any light at the end of the tunnel ?

100% agree cricket was supposed to be one of the sports available via red button so far i have only seen one cricket match covered by red button on sky sports on vm,all the other cricket that has been available to sky sports subscribers on sky has not been made available to virgin media sky sports subscribers.

If cricket was an early implimentor sport on phase 1,goodness knows what will happen in phase 2.

Like you i am unhappy, and when i spoke to the ceos office a while back all they could offer was as follows,"its up to sky what they supply via the red button on vm" whereas i thought vm had a deal to supply the full red button after selling the vm tv channels to sky.:confused:

I don't know about anyone else but I'd actually be prepared to pay £2 or £3 extra a month just for the full red button function (rather then Tivo).

Do Virgin Media realize how big of a thing this is? to some people it's the difference between leaving Virgin and joining Sky and they should find someway to get it or give us the option of getting it for a cost.

It is being delivered, and at no additional cost for that matter. But it can't just magically instantly appear - the software has to be written and tested, and that takes time.

Sky have delivered the first phase and the rest is on the way.

I know that but it's worrying for us Tivo users that we hear about the V+ people getting it for the football season but no update on when Tivo users will get it.

Actually it is at some addtional cost sky sports with sky is £20.50 and with vm £22.50 so vm customers pay extra for sky sports!

Also cricket which is supposed to be in phase 1 has appeared on the red button on vm only once ,even though there have been several occasions cricket has appeared on sky sports red button whilst not being made available to vm sky sports subscribers please explain that one away, seeing as cricket was supposedly on phase 1.:confused:

I was one of the people who was concerned about the Red button, and eventually moved back to Sky, but not becasue of the Red button, but because I am paying nearly £40 permonth less now for Sky, that I did with VM.

I was one who thought they would never go back to Sky, but I did, and I'm glad.

I have many more channels, my internet is faster (I had 10mb with VM, my average speed now is around 16mb)

anyway the funny thing is, now I have full red button functionality, I don't use it, It is quite poor, and I don't think you are missing much.

I think I will consider joining Sky if the red button is not here for the football season, that will tip me over the edge and make Virgin Media lose custom (though I'll still keep my broadband with them)

The red button is going to be fantastic this year for the Champion's League.

Why. Where have Virgin previous stated catagorically that it would be rolled out on the 29th of July

Or as I suspect, are you taking a date that's been rumoured to have been launched, then 'epic failing' Virgin based on a date they never themselves said?

Re: sky sports red button

This is a typical answer from VM, I think that if the red button is not operational by the Charity shield then it won't be ready, as this is the start of the football season.

IS it on in Scottish football ?.

ash88uk 26-07-2011 03:02

Re: sky sports red button

Who is actually developing the software for it to work on Virgin Media box's?

Well, on VM's website it clearly states it will work for all 2011-2012 Premiership matches, we will see, almost only 2 weeks to find out before the big football kick-off. Atleast I can wait till then to see if it works because the Champion's League don't start for a few more weeks after, plenty of time to get a Sky engineer round ;)

Sky are. It's standard for channel-related applications to be developed by the channel provider.

Are you still using that faulty calendar, denphone? ;) It's just over a year since the agreement was signed, then there was a fairly lengthy system design phase. So just a few months for development.

Or as I suspect, are you taking a date that's been rumoured to have been launched, then 'epic failing' Virgin based on a date they never themselves said?

That is a major problem with VM we never get any proper communication about anything coming soon. We have to rely on vague promisses and snippets of information on forums like these.

Communication is certainly one of Virgin's main faults.

I would imagine Tivo will have Skysports red button services soon. Apparently the Tivo is a lot more advanced than the Sky+HD BOX.

The Sky+HD handles the red button service flawlessly and with the Tivo being so advanced I will think its hilarious if it can't handle SS Red button before the premiership starts.

Infact it will make my day if on the first day of premier league Tivo doesn't have red button loloooLMAOlololololol...

God I hope this comes true lolololololol...latest technology my MOD EDIT

This is a family forum. We do not allow swearing and do have a swear filter. We also don't like people trying to get around the swear filter by starring out letters. Please don't swear again.

I'm not expecting the sky sports red button, on TiVo, for the start of the premier league:

It will be a pleasant surprise if it is, however.

Incorrect.

Sky provide the content and and Virginmedia with there "closed" network insist they must provide the portal/application to access the content.

This is a copy of a posting on the 2nd June 2004 by a long-time and fairly niave member of CF ie nothing much has changed / happened in over 7 years :-(

Re: Interactive and the Red Button
Yes

If I had my way *ALL* channels should be made by Law to have a red Spot or Dot so that when we all press it and it doesn't give us the Enhanced Service which we in effect pay for - eg Sky News and Sky Sports etc - we will all COMPLAIN LOUDLY that we are getting short changed ( which we most certainly are! ) and demand of NTL/SKY we get ALL we actually pay for . . . .

Where is the harm in Sky giving us what we pay for ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

If they don't want to give us the Full Enhanced News and Sports Interactive why don'nt we get a discount til they do ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

A Very Confused Ramjet

I would trust Spiderplant's comments over yours any day of the week.

If he says Sky are developing the interface then they are

To be honest, we usually find out about these things at the same time as it's announced to our customers."

The red button problem with VM and the promises they make, and the 'promise' that the red button will be available for the football season is a load of pony.

This is why l stick with Sky, l was seriously considering going fully yo VM for the sports, everything, but they cannot gurrantee the red button for the football, so l will stick with Sky.

I have been with them since analogue days and so far, they have been pretty good, yes l do pay a lot of money for Sky - but they keep there promises.

I have a funny feeling that the RED BUTTON will only be available and selective for the football and not the FOOTBALL TONIGHT item that l like.

Sky keep their promises because they have the money to do so. Delay with content? Throw money at them and they'll hurry up. Content doing great on a free to air channel but the content provider is a money grabbing idiot who isn't fit to control the content? Throw money at him for 6 years.

Sky negotiations are the final round of the Crystal Maze. The content provider signs with Sky then Sky let them into the Crystal Dome for 60 seconds and they get what money they can grab. Then they go home with a team building holiday and a badge saying "I sold my soul to the devil".

They bought VMtv just for Challenge and the rights to the reruns so they can recreate the set as they're currently in the process of their new program selection method. The stars of the show have to get at least 10 crystals and the show is signed.
