Upgrade to up to 50Mb broadband and get free installation

Boost your broadband speed to up to 50Mb, and we'll cover your installation - worth £40.
You'll need to pay a one off £30 activation fee for Broadband XXL.

Currently if you want to swap a V+HD box for a V HD box you'll have to pay the standard costs which include a £49.95 HD activation fee

So to both at the same time would only cost the activation as the install of both would be free as it'll be covered by the broadband install offer

Question, I have to V+HD boxes on VIP 50, why am I getting charged £110.55 for my services?

How many V+ boxes have you got in your package and the standard should be one V+ and a V-HD box?

I'm assuming he meant two V+HD boxes - which would make £110.55 the correct amount based on the pre-TiVo pricing

Yes it is two mate. So am I am right in saying it will be £10 less a
Month to go with a TiVo as I get to keep one of the v+hd boxes?

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I just upgraded from VIP20 to VIP50 and added TIVO (£107.05 with a 3rd box). I was told that I would be entering into a new 18 month contract which I felt was a bit extreme. I asked for either a 12 month contract or the same deal that new customers get with 18 month contract (6 month discount). I was told that VIP package was only for existing customers so I left it at that. Checking the website I can see that the VIP deal is available to new customers at pretty much the exact same price...

Should I be getting the same deal as new customers? Thanks for any advice given.

As far as I know VIP bundles without the six month offer is 12 months only. You should be getting written confrimation of the new contract which will include the term

Cheers Ben, that is what I figured. I didn't want to kick up a fuss at the time as the guy was pretty helpful overall and assisted with a couple of other issues that need to be resolved before the TiVo install.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and get it straightened out hopefully.

I just upgraded to vip50. With the v+ and additional v-hd plus my extra 2 v-hd boxes it now comes to £112 a month. is this a good price? the lady also advised that if i want the 1tb Tivo added it would only cost me £59.95 which i might get next month.

Thats a good price as I just upgraded to 4 sky+hd boxes 3x1tb and 1 500gb and I will be paying a total of £68 to sky with some £30 in discounts and then I pay £35 to vm for 50mb.

So I'm paying £105 with the discounts else it would be £135(the full price for my sky package is £90). But I guess all my boxes are PVR's and I get all HD on all boxes. Plus Skygo eventually on my ipad and a laptop or iphone.

EDIT!

Infact the guys deal is amazing, building it on the Virginmedia website is £133 plus you need 3 extra premium HD packs so thats another £21 his package should cost £154 a month. Even at full price the sky version has more HD more channels and is £20 less ad gives you 4 PVR'S

Yes its SKYWORLD on all boxes which includes every sky channels available. But as I posted in the Sky forum I get 50% loyalty on my skyworld which saves me £26 a month. With sky multiroom you now match EXACTLY whats on the main box HD included.

That's a cracking deal, as new customers would have to pay over £130 for that.

Well negotiated, that person.

It seems a cracking deal but the multiroomHD sub would add £30 and thats being dropped in 6 weeks so they really havent give me much there, The 12 months free hd and 50% skyworld was a "come back" offer after I left them in December.

So even a new customer would only pay £90 from September but you would still need broadband. Hence my hybrid VM and Sky package really does offer the best for not the cheapest, but a good price even after my discounts end.

krazy 14-07-2011 16:19

thats a crackin deal youve negotiated as i think my other 3 boxes wont be hd activated. not really a big deal as i watch my hd on the big telly downstairs. the good thing about virgin's VIP of course is no upfront payments. so if you post on their forum you get a discount? thats a good incentive

I meant I made a post on the sky section of this forum lol. You dont get a discount for posting.

But your package would cost over £130.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I've been on VIP50 for the last 7 months or so and recently called VM to enquire about taking up Tivo. I was quoted 49.95 as a one off fee for the Tivo 500 box and 3 quid extra per month for the service. I tried to get VM to drop the 3 quid fee per month as I was on VIP50 but they wouldnt back down. I'm not being funny but new customers to VIP50 look like they get it included when I check the Virginmedia.com site. Surely existing customers like myself should get the same deal?

BenJSmyth 15-07-2011 09:51

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I'm not sure why this is still a problematic area from VM's point of view. All sales staff should be aware this fee is included with VIP50. However, the £3 is billed the reduction is made by increasing the bundle discount by £3. So technically I suppse, they are charging you for it.

What price did they quote you per month for VIP50?

alexcopeland 15-07-2011 09:58

I just upgraded, I actually saved money by doing it. I am and was on VIP 50, only thing I changed was a TiVo box and was able to keep my existing V+ in the second room. I am getting charged £100.55, so yours should be £102.55 with your £2 charge.

BenJSmyth 15-07-2011 18:33

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

When you say an extra V box do you mean a total of three boxes? With VIP50 you can have two of any box included in the monthly fee. So two TiVos if you want and just pay the upfront charges. Any subsequent box is an extra £6.50 a month. So at the moment your price sounds correct if you have three boxes and the 0845/0870 add on.

its not any two boxes i think its a Tivo/V HD + and a normal V HD boz(no pause and rewindfeature) this is included in the VIP price if you want to get a better box i think they charge you more

BenJSmyth 15-07-2011 20:19

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I believe it is two of any box. We have two 1TB TiVo boxes and an activated VHD box in a third room. We get charged £100.55 plus £6.50 a month. I'm sure someone will be able to confirm this.

r94yan 15-07-2011 20:23

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

hmm, i do not know then, because i was thinking about upgrading, and if you select the VIP TiVo Bundle it automatically selects 500GB Tivo and a V HD box, if you change the V HD box and tick a Tivo or V HD +, the monthly price goes up.

Ben could i ask exactly what your current services are as your monthly bill seems quite cheap? thanks

BenJSmyth 15-07-2011 20:38

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I am on the standard VIP50 with two 1TB boxes and a VHD box.

The online configuration tool isn't brilliant. I am not able to spec up the setup we have online which is a pain. But if you phone up and order VIP50 they should give you the correct monthly price. You may find you have quite a few one off charges if you are adding extra boxes.

If you are on VIP 50 swapping a V+HD box for TiVo shouldn't cost you any more per month

Definitely any two boxes - have VIP50 with 2 x 1TB TiVo's and no other boxes. I have a couple of extra services so my monthly cost is more, but before I added the extra bits it was 100.55/month - so it IS any two boxes.

BenJSmyth 17-07-2011 11:30

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I believe you could even have three TiVos for the same price. The way they are pricing it at the moment makes me very tempted to swap our VHD box to a 500GB Tivo. I presume that would just be the £49.95 upfront cost and no change to the monthly cost?

wat i do not understand is that the website advertises the VIP 50 Tivo but does not make you aware you can have any two boxes at no extra monthly charge, just extra one off payments.

Shortage of boxes or protect their back if they change their mind on pricing later on I'd imagine.

I think I wasn't clear enough or I've misinterpreted that message. However the £3 charge is paid (directly or in a package) that £3 covers any number TiVo box you get. You could have 4 TiVo boxes and there would still only ever be that £3 that needs to be paid (directly or in a package).

ohhh, thanks that makes perfect sense, thanks for your help, i was gonna say an extra £3 per tivo box would be ridiculous.

It is per account and on VIP50 is included as part of the package. £100.55 if you have two TiVo boxes as part of the two allowed boxes within the package and then £6.50 for every box after that, regardless of what it is.

I'm still on the old VIP package, and probably being short changed.

V+ Box downstairs, standard V box upstairs.
20mb broadband. no superhub.
I do have the premium HD channels still.

Am i right in thinking a lot of you have the Tivo box, plus the V+ box and VHD boxes?

Only those that have switched to TiVo, otherwise the multiroom box is typically a VHD. Plus if they had three boxes they'd be paying at least one multiroom fee.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Hi guys, I'm in the process of leaving sky (tv multi only, no sports/movies £32 p/m)

and taking a deal with Virgin (already got BBM & TLK wknd £35 p/m) both are out of contract. Here's the offer:

BBL 10mb

TLK Evening & wknds
Tivo (£49 activation fee)

HD Movies

HD Sports

V+ XL box

£72 for 6 mths

£79 for 6 mths

then £86.49 for 6 mths

It looks similar to the VIP deal.

I think this is the best I can do, my issue is whether to haggle sky (AGAIN!) to get a decent tv package then haggle virgin for a better bb & tlk deal.

Any thoughts.

---------- Post added at 12:08 ---------- Previous post was at 11:59 ----------

P.S.
Called last night to confirm. Was told sports/movies not HD.
May cancel now to stay out of contract.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Hi folks,
Sorry for resurrecting a 2 month old thread, but it seemed the most appropriate place to enquire. I upgraded from VIP20 to VIP50 in August 2010 to take advantage of the free Sky Sports HD offer. However, looking on various threads around here, I can't help feel I've been overpaying all this time (especially when I see some people have two Tivo boxes and still pay less than me)?

My bundle is specifically 2 V+ boxes, both with Sky Sports/Movies in HD (one free as part of the VIP bundle, one with the £7 surcharge). Looking at my bill, I'm wondering if I'm paying for 3 boxes ("1 additional V box") even though I only have 2?

Quote:

Bundle charges:
- Talk International
- Talk Mobile
- Talk Unlimited
- TV Size: XL
- 1 Additional V Box
- V+ HD Monthly Fee
- XXL 50Mb Broadband
- Phone, TV & Broadband Saving
Bundle charges total £61.06

Phone line rental:
- Line Rental
Phone line rental total £13.90

Premium TV channels:
- Movies4,Movies5,Sports1,Sports2
- SkypremHD

Bundle charges total £43.50

Your package total £118.46
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

The bundles were redone when TiVo launched, so if you upgraded one of your boxes to TiVo you would probably pay less per month (but your Talk International package would be changed)

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Can anyone give me idea of the exact price I would pay for the VIP package? I am interested in knowing before I give VM a call.

I currently pay £94 for
-50Mb broadband
-XL tv
-V+ HD
-Sports 1 + 2
-Premium HD

To me,it seems that for around the same I could get a new Tivo box and the movies package - is that right?

On the VIP package, is there any one-off charge for Tivo installation?

The price for the VIP50 is £100.46 PM then there is this in the small print?

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Hello,

I really don´t enjoy writing this message and posting my question because I am now going to do something that I usually hate other people to do. To ask questions without having invested enough time to properly read the information already available on the forum.

I haven´t been actively checking what is available with Virgin for quite some time and now I am just overwhelmed by all the new boxes, services, bundles etc. Maybe you can point me in the right direction with regards to possibly changing my current services. Thank you in advance!

I am out of a 12 month contract and am currently using the following:

BB L
TV XL
Talk International
Talk Weekends
V+ HD Monthly Fee
1 Additional V Box
The invoice lists Bb/Phone/TV Sp Mov Discount

Charges: 38.25

Phone line rental

Charges: 13.90

Premium TV channels

Movies4, 5 Sports 1, 2 SkypremHD

Charges TV Channels: 36.50

So, in total I pay 88.65 for the above.

Reading through at least a few of the pages of this thread, it looks like I could get quite a lot more for "a little" extra in the monthly charges, like the VIP packages, even though I have yet to figure out the differences between VIP 50 and 100.

For me, I am now contemplating either trying to save money by downgrading (for example, I hardly ever watch any of the Sky Movies channels; I focus on SkySports really and use BB a lot) or to put a little bit more money on the table for some additional services and "gadgets" like the TIVO, the faster BB etc.

My challenge at the moment is that there just seem to be so/too many combinations that I just seem to miss the forest for the tree. Therefore, any opinions, thoughts etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all!

DUS

The VIP bundle is quite straightforward. It's this: http://shop.virginmedia.com/bundles/...e-package.html

It only becomes a bit more complicated when people want more than the two boxes that are a standard part of the bundle deal

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Thank you, Ben.

I´ll see what I can find out over the weekend. Yes, you are right, the VIPs are indeed quite straightforward.

As far as I can say so far, if I want to keep TV XL and Sky Sports, whatever else I remove from my existing services, there doesn´t seem to be a way to save an awful lot, > 10-15 pounds/month.

In an ideal world, I would only subscribe to BB L, TV XL and Sky Sports HD without a phone line and anything else, but then I would pay almost the same amount or even more than I am paying at the moment. So there doesn´t seem a point to downgrade from my current package. That´s why I am considering to upgrade to "enjoy something new".

We´ll see! I will check out the VM website and see what other people on this forum here did in similar situations. Just to get some ideas of what is acutally feasible at the moment.

Cheers and best

DUS

ive just upgraded

getting vip50 with 1 1tb tivo and 1 500gb tivo for £97.96 a month

on fees i have to pay is £49.95 for the extra box and £30 activation (but they have credited £30 onto my account so in fact i only have to pay the 49.95)

Cant wait until next year for it to be installed!!!

Not sure how that works out. With the new TiVo pricing VIP 50 with two TiVo boxes should be £104.96

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I'm currently on VIP 50 and have been so for some time, I've now noticed via the postcode checker that I have 100Mbps available in my area.

Does anyone know the best price I can expect to pay P/M for adding 100meg, I'd want to keep my current 50meg modem, not interested in the Superhub. Just wondered as I've been a customer for a long time if any discounts can he had on the VIP packages for long time customers.

Signing up to a new 12 month deal is fine with me as I'm happy with VM.

Thanks for your help as always CF.

BenMcr 06-11-2011 12:25

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

VIP 100 is £110.46

And 100Mbit requires the SuperHub, you cannont keep the 50Mbit modem. If you want to use your own router, then the SuperHub has a modem only mode

Firmsky 06-11-2011 13:08

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Thanks for your reply Ben, so that's an increase of £9. So I take it long time customers don't receive any discounts from VIP packages? Thanks once again for your help.

You are actually getting a £1 discount :D Because the difference between the price of 50mb and 100mb is £10 :D

Hi Ben

Who knows, all i know is the contract was delivered with the prices on it with the "right to council" form enclosed (not that its gonna be sent in)

I'm not complaining about it

We are on VIP50 and pay about £108 with one V+ box and one STD none HD box.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

VIP50 with a TiVo and a V+ costs me £101.46 per month, you need to ring up and query your price!

BenMcr 07-11-2011 00:49

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

It may well be the correct price (due to price changes) if they've been on VIP 50 since before the TiVo launch

Remember swapping to VIP 50 with TiVo will drop it to £101.46

joanneg 07-11-2011 13:34

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I'm currently on what I think is called VIP50

XXL Broadband
XL TV
XL Phone
Sky Premium Channels HD
V+ Box
V HD Box

and would like to upgrade to Tivo.

I pay £96.50 for the above at the moment and have been with VM for 6 yrs.

Don't know if that's a good or bad deal?

I've had constant problems with all services for the past two months and have had engineers out 6 times in 2 months. I tried to complain yesterday but customer retentions were closed.

So my plan is to call customer retentions today and try to get Tivo without paying the £49 installation charge due to the problems I have had lately. Am happy to pay the £3 monthly charge. And would like to move my V+ box upstairs.

Don't know if I'll be successful or not, but can only try. Any ideas what the cost might be? Or any feedback?

Thanks.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Ben, rang up for VIP100 and have been quoted 111.46. Took that price though as I didn't have to pay installation or any activation fees so £1 over 12 months is better than a £30 activation. It was Nice chap from Sheffield who sorted it all and he added Spotify to my account and also said I should be able to keep my 50Meg modem providing the engineer is happy but stated the engineer my state I have to have the Superhub. Fingers crossed I don't!

Don't keep your modem. It's not compatible long term with 100Mbit as there are already areas using more downstream channels for 100Mbit than the VMNG300 can handle

The agent did say something along those lines and added if the installer is happy ask them to leave a Superhub and if problems arise in the future I can just call in and activate the Superhub. Not sure if that is possible? Obviously an install is still taking place this Thursday so I'll see what happens. In regards to Spotify how long it does it take to be added to my account? It's still telling me I don't have it and I need to upgrade to 30Mbps. Thanks once again for your time.

Even happier now I know it should be £111.46 as I got a free £30 activation and free £49.99 installation! Good work VM:D:D

Just rang about Spotify as its still not showing, been told the code wasn't applied as promised and I now have to wait until my install date of the 10/11/11 for the code to be applied as they can't change my order now. Why is everything always so complicated! I can smell Billy Bull here but I'll wait till Thursday then see what happens!
