It's been quiet on here tonight from virgin media staff. Are they still in the Premium HD sales meeting.

Not too bad if that what it is going to be - Sky charge £58.50 for everything + HD and that doesn't include ESPN, Film 4 HD (yet) or the On Demand library that Virgin customers get

Lol, I know. It's silly isn't it..? I've just done a comparison on line and a comparable package to my VM pack with Sky works out £4 p/m cheaper (but with many more tv channels with Sky)... I must be doing something wrong, I know on demand is useful but I can't for the life of me remember the last time I used it !

Don't subscribe to movies and sport though, so not affected, the pub is for watching football and DVDs are for watching films.

Once again my response to that is hmmmmmmmmm.

P.S. the picture you linked to doesn't prove anything either way as it's for the current HD lineup only and nothing to do with any future HD services

Things are just getting silly now.
People are saying they are moving over to the "dark side" when in fact the prices are not confirmed.

Wait for the press announcement before having a frenzy over prices and who's cheaper. Virgin might have a surprise up their sleeve, and you never know, if the rumours are true, they may be tweaked before the announcement.

That's all I have to say :)

I think that if they do charge it will be because $ky made them sign a contract that makes them charge for them. They then drop the charge in September which means they still have the most attractive package, that would be typical $ky!

As for the recent ad campaign stating that they don't charge for HD, I think I am correct in saying that the campaign was launched before this deal was done

There is all this speculation, it might cost this, i doubt this will.... and so on.
Nobody knew about 5 HD launching when it did, and nobody really knows what virgin media will announce.

We could all wake up tomorrow to find there is no charge, and we will wonder what all the fuss is about (heres hoping anyway) :)

Totally agree. How anyone can track what is coming soon in this thread anymore is beyond me?

It's worse that you have to hunt on the thread for Media Boy's update now instead of it being on the front page but now with pages of speculation inbetween it's become a mess.

Can there just be a HD rumour thread and everyone just spouts off in there and the Coming Soon thread stays as just that?

The channels aren't here yet, there is no date for when they will and no pricing either.

The rumour that some people are bounding around is £7 for all Sky Movies HD and the Sky Sports HD1 and HD2

But I repeat... wait for the OFFICIAL announcement very soon on the pricing as NOTHING has been confirmed yet.

Various reports on Digital Spy saying they phoned up VM CS and they said as long as your on the XL pack with Sky Sports, you will get HD at no extra cost.

I was just on VMs website on the chat feature, asking them about the Sky sports in HD etc. Couldn't get anything out of Claire she couldn't commit on Sky sports and movies coming to VM. She mentioned Ofcom when I asked about it.

I asked if the £7 was true she just said phone to sales team. She cut me off in the end when I was asking about Film 4 in HD. Cheeky!

Surely if people comment on there thoughts over HD pricing it gives Virgin an insight into peoples feelings. That's what a forums for speculation and hear say.

We'll be hearing more on the 19th just phoned Virgin Media. Guy on the phone said there will be news then. He said Sky Sports 1 and 2 in HD will launch for the start of the Prem League.

He wouldn't confirm or deny the £7 per box rumour, just said wait till the 19th July there will be news on it then.

I just text my mate he works for Virgin Media call centre in Swansea. He wait he has to say on it all.

I assume if there is gonna be a charge for HD ( that is what you lot are going on about? to much to read back) then it will be an opt in rather than an opt out?

It seems to be only the Premium channels. Nothing has yet been announced about the any basic HD channels

I done a lot of ranting on here last night however I've had a good sleep and time to think :)

I suppose you can't argue about £7.00 if you are on the M+ or L package after the recent price changes.

SKY Sports + Sky Movies

M+ old price was £33.50, new price as of 1st July £27.50 (Saving £6.00) Now add HD at £7.00 = £34.50 (£1.00 more than you used to pay)

L old price £33.50, new price as of 1st July £27.50 (Saving £6.00) Now add HD at £7.00 = £34.50 (£1.00 more than you used to pay)

XL old price £27.50, new price as of 1st July £27.50 (Saving **** all) Now add HD at £7.00 = £34.50 (£7.00 more than you used to pay)

If the £7.00 accross the board is true, nothing confirmed as of yet, XL customers will be taking the biggest shafting. M+ and L customers used to pay £6.00 more to receive their sports and movies than XL customers.

This to me would suggest XL / VIP customers will receive HD for free. I can't see anyway Virgin could explain this as a fair deal to their highest paying clients in terms of TV:td:

Agreed, I only have Sports and £7 is a hell of a lot to pay for 2 HD channels.

The more concerning thing is that if someone has 2 HD boxes it will cost them £34.50/month for 4 SD channels, 2 of which will never be watched and 2 HD channels :shocked:

The only way for VM to drop/lower this charge is for us as consumers to not sign up to it. This will force them to re-think the pricing structure assuming Sky had no say in it during the recent negotiations

Unfortunately there will always be people with more money than sense and go for it just because its the latest thing.

This where i think virgin made the boo boo instead off saying hd for free it would have been better to say we will do a hd pack all for £7 excluding bbc hd,itv hd,ch4 hd and five hd which would be free.Then doing additional boxes at £5 or £7 per box.But i am going to wait for official announcement on pricing and see what happens but at this moment in time at the speculated price no thanks ill stick with the free ones.

I don't think so really. Yes, there will be a large amount of people who will want to subscribe to Sky Sports and Movies but not everyone will, so for non sports and movies HD channels, they have the upper hand, as even for the non Sport/Movie on Sky you still have to pay £10 per HD box per month to gain access to the HD variants of channels you subscribe to. Where as on VM, you only have to pay this extra fee if you want SS/SM in HD. Some people will be willing to pay this for the better PQ some may just want to stick with what they've got with the upscaled SD. It's all down to personal choice really :)

The OFCOM investigation recommended (didn't set, but recommended) that the wholesale price of Sky HD Premium content was £5.89 + VAT.

If the wholesale price is indeed that, then Virgin aren't making that much profit at charging £7.

As for the 'per box' madness, this is what Sky do to their own customers, Sky customers have to pay the £10 HD charge per box.

I can only assume that part of the recent Sky-VM deal means that VM must do embrace the HD charge per box, otherwise VM would look insanely great value for money compared to Sky, and Sky won't allow that.
