ITV 1 remains on 103. ITV 1 HD is a seperate channel so can be elsewhere in the EPG

Same as C4HD is elsewhere

Ok Thankyou but will it be like it is on Freesat at mo when they show something in HD then you would have to press the Red Button or will it be a stand alone Channel?

A simcast channel is one broadcasting the same programs (in HD were available) at the same time as the parent channel, so yes, it's a separate channel. :)

This from the ITV press release:

The ITV1 schedule will be simulcast on the new channel, with the majority of peak time content available in ‘native’ HD, including all live football, and an increasing range of drama, factual and entertainment programming. Other ITV1 content including GMTV and the daytime schedule, will be ‘upscaled’ – giving viewers a better than ever experience of the nation’s most popular commercial channel.

Because 'itv 1 hd' is run by ITV plc

'itv' in Scotland is run by STV plc, and UTV plc in Northern Ireland - which are seperate companies who have no involvement in 'itv 1 hd'

So ITV plc do not have the broadcast rights for 'itv' in those regions.

Chris 12-03-2010 15:15

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

When it was a red-button service available to Freesat only, I believe it was broadcasting according to the ITV London schedule. This was politically unacceptable to STV in Scotland (which is very precious about its status as an independent member of what remains of the ITV 'network' - you rarely, if ever, see the yellow ITV1 logo anywhere on STV). I suspect the same will apply when it begins broadcasting with its own EPG number.

I'm wondering how this will affect the Freesat version of the service actually - if they move it off the red button, it presumably will become available to the whole UK, seeing as Freesat can't use encryption to restrict who can see a channel.

I thought, and i dont think im wrong) that is Sky viewers manually tune/search/scan for ITVHD then they can watch it already, Scotland or not??!!!!

Chris 12-03-2010 15:42

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

You can scan for it if you have a Sky HD box, but the process is a little more complex than usual due to the way it is encoded by ITV. It isn't broadcast as a regular channel.

devilincarnate 12-03-2010 15:57

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

So lets recap ?

HD channels already available on Virgin Media TV:

That is going to take the total to 12 and also the extra on-demand content that we will get as well!

Of course they could.

Sky announced the launch of Sky Sports 4 HD and Hallmark HD as well as ITV HD on their platform, so VM still have some way to go especially if Sky reaches its 50 HD channels target by Christmas.

I just took it to mean that Sky knew what it meant for Scotland.

Its not a platform issue its those ***** at STV opting out from buying shows from ITV in England  yeah all the programs people actually watch.

The Virginmedia twitter page says they are in discussions with STV about the ITVHD channel.

Well the ITV HD news has made my day! This is the one I wanted for the World Cup plus other football offerings.

Seems it's launching on channel 113, so the Virgin Central closing wasn't related. Maybe they've done a deal for some of the plus 1's too...

In the living room we just have a standard Def V box, it would replace that.

By swapping it with our additional can I still Self Install?

Thanks for the advice.

I think at the moment VM want concerate on getting HD on there network like last year we had a few SD channels, tis year more and more people are getting HD TV's so HD is becoming more important to service providers.

Well they could help launch a new channels in hd in the UK instead of just trying to catch up with sky.

I'd like to see them do something along those lines to make virgin seem like a real alternative to sky.

You got a source for that assumption? Film4 have not given a timescale when they will launch on Sky and Living HD won't be going to Living any time soon either. Sky aren't buying vmtv anymore so they won't get LivingHD by default. I think they will get LivingHD when we get Sky1HD the 12th of never!:(

MGM HD (the channel not the MGM Company) is 98% owned by Sky, but they only have a smaller stake in A&E channels so those are not out of the question. Who would have thought we would have thought we would get FX HD and that has some great content.

The difference with FX is that BskyB have no direct say in it, as it's fox international. It's a news corp company sure, but unless Murdoch is at the head pulling the strings then it's going to act in it's own best interests, not that of another company even if it's under the same umbrella. BSkyB can dictate their own policies far far easier than they can influence those of companies running autonomously with entirely different executives.

What I would like to see is Virgin launch Virgin1HD and Bravo HD. It all well enough moaning about Sky not sharing their channels but Virgin need to get out there and show that they will invest too.

The optimist in me thinks that Channel 118 has been freed up for Virgin1HD, but the pessimist in me is expecting ITV2+1!

Challenge Jackpot HD anyone?;)

Virgin don't want to produce a television channel they just want to carry channels and provide access to it.

Just noticed that next weeks Klitschko Vs. Chambers is available on demand for £9.99. This is a Primetime Live broadcast. Does this mean Virgin now carries Primetime Live and will the Froch Vs. Kessler bout be available too on PPV?

VM seem to be sending out some conflicting information regarding E4HD. The ITV HD press release says E4HD will be added to XL?

http://pressoffice.virginmedia.com/p...852&highlight=

Though they seem to state M+ everywhere else?

Not AFAIK, no reason has been given as to why they are getting dropped, but if it means more HD, then that's ok! :D

MB is spot on :)

Only downside is once we get all the HD we need this thread will become reduntant until the next standard in tv comes along, I like most probably visit this thread at least once a day to see whats going on.

Great news on SyfyHD too, another great addition VM.

SkySports/Movies & Sky1HD are all I want now, and maybe NatGeo Wild HD. fingers crossed

I can understand why people want Sky 1 or Sky Sports in HD but I don't understand why anyone bothers to subscribe to Sky movies anymore, it is cheaper to use lovefilm or other rental services where you can choose what you watch and not get constant repeats all for a lot less money.

jtaylor06 14-03-2010 13:59

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Picturebox will be as superior as Sky Movies if they start putting more premiers (or just more latest films) on there.

But what's better is that you can watch the movies anytime, and non-V+ subs can rewind and ffwd the film.
Oh, and it's in HD too.

Anybody else agree? :)

Because to cancel movies and keep sports only saves you a couple of quid. A marketing ploy at it's best...

zantarous 14-03-2010 15:16

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

I still like Sky Movies as when i do fancy watching a film I have about 10 to chose from, I don't go to the cinema much anymore and buy the big flicks on Bluray. Everything else I watch on the movie channels and if we can get them in HD that would be a nice big bonus. But as BikeNutt says if you drop movies you only save about £5.
