john Rhys-Davies and Jerry O'Connell are in talks for a Sliders revival. I hope it goes through because I would love a new series like this with different stories and settings every week. With the standard of special effects these days I think the series will be a lot better quality than the original because they'll be able to create any environment the writers imagine.

I loved the first seasons of Sliders. It was a fantastic show. Got a bit crazy toward the end, but would love a revival.

Yeah they then brought in Jerry's brother to replace him then all the alien nonsense.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Not so much of a renewal as new series info. Another Walking Dead spin-off is in the works but tbh I think TWD and FTWD is enough:

Quote:

Time to re-sole your walking shoes. AMC has just ordered another spin-off of its monster hit, the Walking Dead TV show. The new series, which does not yet have a title, is scheduled to kick off production this summer, with an eye toward a 2020 premiere.

No cast has been announced, but unlike the prequel, Fear the Walking Dead, the new series is a sequel and will center on “two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse,” and will feature heroes and villains alike.

Nice, he is the only semi-main character that i feel i dont know anything about. I put him en par with Black Widow but we have learnt more about her as we have gone through the movies plus she is getting her own origin film. I imagine Hawkeye will be aimed more at 10-12 year old boys in terms of the stories and action but it will be good to get some depth on the character and build him up a bit.

Two more Marvel series coming to Hulu which should be good:

Quote:

More Marvel is coming to Hulu. The streaming service just announced two new TV shows from the comics giant, Marvel’s Ghost Rider and Marvel’s Helstrom.
An action drama, Marvel’s Ghost Rider follows Robbie Reyes, “a quintessential antihero, consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Reyes lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields.”
Meanwhile, Marvel’s Helstrom follows Daimon and Ana Helstrom, “the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer in Marvel’s Helstrom. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity — each with their attitude and skills.”

Both Marvel’s Ghost Rider and Marvel’s Helstrom are slated to debut on Hulu in 2020.

Read more info below:

“Marvel and Hulu Expand Partnership With Two New Live-Action Series

The Spirits of Vengeance are coming! In an expanded partnership, Marvel Television will bring two new live-action series to Hulu from a unique corner of the Marvel universe. The iconic adventures into fear properties, Marvel’s Ghost Rider and Marvel’s Helstrom are slated to debut on Hulu in 2020.

Marvel’s Ghost Rider, also known as Robbie Reyes, is a quintessential antihero, consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Reyes lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields. Marvel’s Ghost Rider is executive produced by Ingrid Escajeda, who will serve as showrunner, Paul Zbyszewski and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb.

Daimon and Ana Helstrom are the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer in Marvel’s Helstrom. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity — each with their attitude and skills. Marvel’s Helstrom is executive produced by Paul Zbyszewski, who will serve as showrunner and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb.

Both series are co-productions with Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios and join the upcoming season three of Marvel’s Runaways and recently announced adult animated series based on the popular Marvel Television characters including Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K, Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show and Marvel’s Howard The Duck, which will culminate in a special event, Marvel’s The Offenders.”

2019 Upfront dates ;

This is when the US networks announce the fate of their shows, what will be renewed, what wont, and what new shows are coming.
Of course, they have already cancelled or renewed many shows, but the fate of others is still unknown, plus we dont (generally) know what new shows are coming.

May 13: NBC, Syfy, Fox
May 14: Disney, ABC
May 15: CBS, TBS, TNT
May 16: The CW

So by Friday 17th, we should pretty much know whats coming in the new (US) TV season.

An interesting question, but unless they’re postulating that Werner Von Braun was liberated by the Soviets rather than the Americans, there’s no way the USSR would have got a manned mission to the moon first, or ever. Their N1 rocket was just too dangerous.

I think they may have stolen the US designs, as the Sov cosmonaut steps down from something very similar to the Lunar Module.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other TV Snippets

I like the premise but the one thing which is making me feel despondent at the moment is Joel Kinnaman. He was quite drab in Altered Carbon which a lot of people moaned about and I didn't think anything of it at the time and put it down to the character he was portraying in the series. Unfortunately the same performance was repeated in Hanna which leads me to conclude that it is the actor who cannot act nor portray any semblance of personality.

I knew that but I still think the 100th episode could be the last. Let's face it it's a season away, anything (storywise) could happen between then and now.

Perhaps I'm just unusually being a pessimist.

General Maximus 10-06-2019 14:59

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other TV Snippets

yeah, hopefully though they are going to get plenty of notice if the series is ending so the writers can sit down and know they have got 16 episodes to finish off the series properly and do it justice. Like GoT, the characters have been through so much and come so far, they deserve a good send off.

A new Gremlins tv series is in the works which will be a prequel series to the original movie:

Quote:

Gremlins are back! WarnerMedia just announced they’ve ordered a new TV show called Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.
A prequel to the Gremlins movie, the series travels “back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo.

That could be really good if done well. Hope the animation style is good too.

The second one was indeed certainly nowhere as good as the first one and thus struggled at the box office compared to the first one.

Just to make it clear - this Gremlins series is an animation, not live action as the films were.

Syfy have announced that production on Wynonna Earp season 4 will begin later in the year, to hit our screens in 2020. :)

It will most likely air in the summer.
No news on the supposedly ordered 5th season, I guess we wait and see on that.

Warner Brothers are working on a new series of The Flintstones.

Amazon are reportedly working on the cast for Season 2 of The Boys.

One of the writers is already working on Season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Amazon has ordered Papergirls - a show based on a [graphic] novel of the same name.
Quote:

... [it] follows four young girls who, while out delivering papers on the morning after Halloween in 1988, become unwittingly caught in a conflict between warring factions of time-travelers, sending them on an adventure through time that will save the world.

The good news for everyone is that it isn't just "one of the writers" who is jumping the gun and getting ahead of himself for season 2, it is the director and creator Jon Favreau. Everyone should have heard of him but in the unlikely event you haven't we are talking about Happy from the MCU who directed Iron Man and produced many of the other Marvel films. I am very excited and happy that somebody who has such a fantastic history of quality and passion in their work is helming a Star Wars project. We just know it is going to be done properly.

Showtime have announced a series called Halo, based on the game of the same name.
Quote:

[the show] will take place in the universe that first came to be in 2001, dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant.
Its expected to air in Q1, 2021.

Known dates for Marvel TV Series on Disney+ ;

Aug 2020 : The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Early 2021 : WandaVision.
Early 2021 : Loki.
Mid 2021 : What If.
Late 2021 : Hawkeye.

On top of this are the known Star Wars TV Series ;

Nov 2019 : The Mandalorian.
Feb 2020 : Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Season 7)
Sometime in 2021 : Rogue One Prequel (Unnamed)

In other words, 2021 is looking like a good year. :D

Disney are surely missing the point. I’m a big marvel and Star Wars fan, but I will not be subscribing to their channel.

I’ll either watch it by other means or if the opportunity arises buy the shows I want via Blu-ray or other medium.

There’s no monthly income from me, much in the same way amazon and Netflix can kiss my behind.

I am just wondering though that with the way wifi is going, 5G internet and broadband connections etc how long it will be till physical media disappears altogether and streaming is the only option. Disney must have done some number crunching and worked out that it is still in their interest to sell dvds for the foreseeable future but the sure way to dominate the streaming market and take everyone away from Amazon and Netflix (price aside) is to say all future content (post cinema release) will only be available on their streaming service. Who wouldn't sign up if it meant they had unlimited access to future MCU films, Star Wars and Lion King etc. Surely that is the way to get 500m subscribers? That is why they are doing Lady and the Tramp on Disney+ and if they were clever they would say Lion King is streaming only because that is due out in November the same time as the debut of the streaming service.

Missing the point??

Disney are marketing it's service very well. The monthly fee is cheaper than the other services on offer, it will have many great shows and movies as well as a lot of new and exclusive content available, as well as only offering the one price which gets you 4K and all content with a number of users. Netflix only gives you that if you pay over £11 a month.

It's also the only place that will get Marvel movies and shows so they will certainly be taking it in.

This years big "arrowverse" crossover is going to include the characters from Black Lightning.
We can already expect those from Arrow, Flash, Supergirl & the Legends (and possibly even Batwoman).

That’s interesting because when they launched Black Lightning they were coy about which universe it is in. In fact they’ve done little to address that aside from one very fleeting reference to Supergirl, which suggests the BL characters aren’t actually in the Arrowverse and they are going to have to pull off one almighty piece of plotting to make it happen.

TBH I have come to really dislike the crossovers. The Earth X one was a mess, very light on character (because there are just too many of them) and focusing purely on fanwanky pitch battles with as many costumed characters on screen as possible at any one time.
