Together with legal rules about what can be shown on UK TV (e.g. you can't televise any game between 3pm & 5pm on Saturday), the bottom line is that it's going to take an awful lot of money to challenge Skys' strangle hold. 879 million for Champions League was the first coo, how much will Premier league rights cost?

A suggestion in this article is that the Premier League may make more matches available. The article reminds us that 45% more matches are shown now than 10 years ago ago (106 v 154) but states there is scope yet for far more to be shown.

The article also suggests that those who feel they now have to pay to two providers for all matches have not realised that by staying with just Sky Sports they would still have more matches today (116) than they would have had 10 years ago. The price per match would have been equivalent to £3.03 in 2004 and £2.81 in 2014.
I'm not a Sky supporter but find the calculations often show different outcomes to a lot of posters' perceptions.

I think Channel 4 +1 HD will be axe to give slot to E4 HD or Film4 when deal with Sky and Virgin are up.

But 4Seven HD may launch on both Virgin and Sky when deals are up.

(When signed E4 HD or Film4 HD may move to More TV Pack.)

Well Sky have raised prices as follows
£1 for entertainment pack
£1 for entertainment+ pack
£2.50 for Sky sports 1+2 pack
50p for sky movies pack

Those are the price rises.
This might give us a idea of virgins price rises when they come.

I wouldn't have thought that there was, AFAIK these HD variants of existing services have only been created to fill new (temporary) capacity that nobody else seems to want.

Freeview is an open platform, it doesn't have the budget to make channels exclusive. However, if Channel 4 got a great deal then it might be viable for Channel 4 to make these channels available on Freeview but not on other platforms where it would have to bid for capacity against pay-TV broadcasters.

The packages on VM already went up in February 14 my parents was £5.75 and they don't have any Sky Premiums so surely aside from the Sky Premiums the next increase should be Feb 15 ?

That is a good summary indeed. The prices i posted were from the letter i got this morning.
Either way i'm still canceling in October once my contract is up as for me it's not worth the money as i'm not watching anything on it lol.

Indeed MM one would hope the next rise would not be till next year but l have a bad feeling about this and one must hope those portents don't come true.

Which is sort of what I was hinting at, CH4 may have got the muxes dirt cheap for a while to make it worth their while.

Virgin do the following every year:

Sky Sports and Sky Movies goes up on October 1st - still to be confirmed for 2014.

The base packages (M, M+, L and XL) goes up in February to April every year.

It also strengthens Channel 4's negotiating hand with VM and Sky - they will be keener to get them now that they're on Freeview and YouView.
