I'm fingers crossed they get what they want, sick of it all, let them go, they don't really want to stay and are just getting what they can out of it.

Sadly I bet they will just not quite do it.

Interestingly within my own extended family the young ones are all voting YES, and the old uns are voting NO.

If that pans out across Scotland, it'll be a case of will more old uns vote or young uns which will determine the end result.

Er ... If the result is No, then that proves "they" do really want to stay. Democracy and all that. ;)

How young are the young ones in your extended family, and are they male or female? The only demographic where there is a majority for Yes is amongst males aged 19-40. Everywhere else it's a No, of varying sizes. And amongst the new voters, 16s and 17s, it's quite comfortably a No.

Any theories on why the young and very young differ?

Well, for a start the 19-40 demographic is quite broad. I suspect that the Yessers within that cohort are in the upper end of it. They are the ones who have grown up against the backdrop of the 1980s. Nuff said, I think.

The very young, on the other hand, are the internet-savvy citizens of the world, who don't see borders and identity in the same way that older people do. The proposal to create a border makes no sense to them, whether the justification offered is geography, politics or ethnicity.

How much of the 'younger male' attitude stems from the sort of pride, passion and even hatred we see on the football terraces, for example, I wonder.

Knowledge and understanding the consequences for one. Also everyone is more of a rebel when they are younger :D

Poor Scots don't get many options. Either Celtic or Rangers. Yes or No :p:

Maybe that's it lol ;)

Seriously though, I do think those sort of extreme, partisan, emotions have a lot to answer for and can easily be exploited by manipulative politicians.

Sadly it's not just the cybernats that go over the line when someone expresses an opinion.

Sickening. :(

I think a lot of Scots have been saying "Yes" to pollsters, but will vote "No", and will always say they voted "Yes".

So the tight 50/50 split might be far from the truth.

That Picture on top with vandalism saying yes has just reminded me of Boots in Swansea earlier. A Boy in his mid 20s was caught shop lifting. 2 Riot Vans and a Police car totalling 14 officers on scene and here in Wales if we had vandalism like this above we are lucky to get an officer.

Regardless of the outcome my main worry in this will be our nationalists demanding a similar referendum and the subsequent campaigns taking up the already wasteful resources of the WA.
