Very annoying, how did you find out?

I found out by calling THEM at 5:15 when no engineer arrived

The guy in installations could see it had been cancelled but couldn't explain why. New date is the 17th of May :(

If all a reminder does is change the channel for you, how is that any help?

A fair point; but if you don't remember something's on when you've set a reminder then you've completely missed it anyway haven't you?

There's no difference between setting a reminder for something and setting it to record except that, with the latter, you don't miss the programme if you forget you set a reminder ;)

All of these have the same answer: The box poping up with a message saying "xxx is on now, you set a reminder for it" is going to remind me that I set a reminder.
Maybe if you don't have the TV on unless you want to specifically watch something it'll be pretty useless, but most people the TV is on all the time as background noise anyway, likewise if you're out it isn't going to be much use, but people usually know if they'll be out on a certain day so would record instead (or even, shock horror, do both!).

The difference is one huge vital one, there's no indication that a recording has been triggered, with a reminder you really can't miss it. I don't see how you can read my post, agree with the scenario I put up, and then again say there's "no difference" between a recording or a reminder. I think it's pretty obvious there is a difference, a reminder reminds you, a recording could be sitting there for a year before you realise you actually wanted to watch something.

Works fantastically on the V+ when I'm just channel surfing while waiting for my programme to appear

Recording progammes is a poor excuse for no reminder if I want to phone in or vote

Indeed. I am trying to understand your reasoning but I really just don't get it. Perhaps it's because I just cannot imagine going back to pre-2002; which was the last time I had to be ready to watch any given programme at the time the broadcaster had decided to show it.

And yes, I know that sporting events should be watched live, and I completely agree. However, I would still watch on a small delay, just so I could FF through an un-interesting bit if I wanted to :)

I've just picked the keys to the DeLorean up set the reminder for tonight's football , now back to pre 2002 :D

I second that you should have been offered a priority install.

OK, looking forward to TiVo install tomorrow, but still annoyed about the fact that they told me on the phone I might get to keep my V+ without the £6.50 multiroom charge, then couldn't confirm it, then told me I would only get it if I was phoned by them as a surprise. Are any of the VM staff contributors here in a position to a) calm me down and tell me I just wasn't selected, bad luck, or b) tell me if I am able to get included in the offer before the engineer arrives tomorrow?

Why? Have VM taken on more than they can handle?

Cheers Fixerman.

Had a bit of a play with TIVO, been out today. Set up all my series records didn't take long to suss out how. I feel liberated now, can set up as many records as I like without worrying about clashes and hard drive room :)

Picture quality, can't tell diff between V+ and TIVO. I actually like the independant padding options for each series record you set up although a glodal one would be nice as mine are all virtually the same.

Was told by VM my BB would be upgraded today from 2-10meg to 20meg but my Local area network status is telling me I'm getting 100.00 Mbps. Maybe I'm reading it wrong!

TIVO gets a thumbs up so far but give it a few days yet.

Having lived with Tivo for 3 days now I thought a post was due.
Absolutely loving it. I spent the first day going through the epg thumbing up and down and doing wishlists and its already recorded some great shows id have missed otherwise. PQ is similar to my Sammy V+, no more lipsynch issues or sound drop out either. Love the boop boops too :p:
I too like others have the problem with catch up from the backwards epg, it just takes me to the menu to search for it.
Overall im well impressed, sure it may have a niggle or two at the moment but I can live with an odd niggle as its just a great bit of kit ;)

I tried setting a recording through the internet but it failed as for some reason it seemed to be trying to set channel zero?

Update - TiVo Helpdesk said this was a forthcoming enhancement - Channel zero isn't loaded yet.

just had mine installed today, looks good at the mo. SD picture is no way as good as samsung V+, and It'll take time to get used to. Typing in is a pain, hope a future update allows you to use number keys like a V+ or a mobile. My wife loves playlists on Music On-demand, can you skip tracks like you could with previous virgin boxes? (press 3 and so on) but otherwise I feel like we have the future here today as TV viewing goes. In a years time it'll be the bees knees!

I agree. But common courtesy dictates that you don't call someone's opposing POV "utter nonsense" just because you disagree with it.

Yes, but that was only used when I was not in to watch stuff because you could only watch something after it had been completely recorded.

l would describe you as very touchy l am afraid but if l upset you l do apologise.
