The lot we have now we bought a couple of years ago after the last big freeze depleted our stock and I'm hoping we won't have too much cause to use it this year.

Wikes are selling it at £4.99 (25kg) at the moment.

Well according to the Daily Fail jog its looks like for the North there are several cold weeks ahead from the weekend.

Fingers crossed that though it may get colder we should escape the freezing snow. Our area of the Cheshire/Lancashire Plain tends to escape a lot of the harsher weather conditions as we are protected, to some extent, by the surrounding higher ground when the prevailing weather comes from the north and east. Our main weather influence is from the north and west and that is the reason we have our reputation of being Wet Manchester. :D

Well it or depends on how much the cold air pushes southwards thenry because as we know the weather is often difficult to predict.

Well as long as my council grits the road and my 30 minute journey doesn't become a 3-1/2 hour journey to hell like last time.

Don't worry there won't be much if any snow and it won't even get that cold ,still waiting for the "beast from the east"

Even the supermarket's cheap 'value' brands do the job.

Example - Grit from Asda (£2.49 for 2kg)

Smartprice Cat Litter (£1.58 for 10lt)

It is cheaper, but people doing this in 2010, I think it was, caused a national shortage of cat litter

Or what about getting a 20/25kg bag of sharp sand (currently £1.81 per bag at B&Q) and use bag of cooking salt (or other cheap salt).
Spreading sand first then sprinkle salt on top, beats spending £6/£8 - 20/25kg bag of rock salt.

Started snowing in this end of Nottingham about 20 minutes ago..

Quite large flakes, but only a light covering so far.
