Can actually go into shops and buy clothes that fit now. Bought some undercrackers from Asda and they fit lovely and are comfy too. Simple pleasure I know but I used to have to wear big shorts for underwear before I lost the weight

It's a nice thought but I won't be celebrating till tomorrow. There's some weird people about who keep quiet and still vote for them. 'Better the devil you know'. It's a form of sadomasicism I think.

Got my 14.5 stone loss award this week. Last few months it has all come off my gut which is awesome. Lost 1.5 stone in the last 7 weeks and lost over 10 inches off my waist since end of March. God knows how but I have managed to maintain a 3.5lb per week average weight loss for 58 weeks. Sorry if my updates are boring

Tremendous achievement, literally none of your clothes fit anymore, no seriously it is a tremendous achievement and seeing as we're all giving you encouragement by giving you waypoints (should be weigh points in this case) in terms of shedding actual people another stone and a bit and you'll have a me, I've been trying to shift the bit but tbh now I want to it's proving stubborn, up till last year I'd only have to go to the loo or skip a meal to lose a pound or two but now I've noticed a bit of a belly it's deciding to stick around. Years ago you'd have been in the paper giving the thumbs up holding the waist of a pair of trousers you could fit two people in, I used to wonder if any would appear the next year continuing their weight loss exploits and defending their title, perhaps on a stretcher complete with drip giving a much weaker thumbs up. Anyway enough of my inane ramblings, well done, you should be really proud of yourself, you've done so well and your updates are never boring, unlike my monologues.

Part happy, and part selfishly sad - my daughter’s 21st birthday. Happy for her of course, she’s developed in to an amazing woman and thankfully with absolutely none of my negative traits. Come to think of it, none of her mother’s negativity either but that’s a different story. Anyway she’s in a long term relationship, she graduates next year and now she’s 21.

And sad because…what happened to my little baby girl??

Gig at Kirkstall Abbey on Saturday night. Fantastic location and well organised. The bands were all good especially Ash and Sleeper and reasonably priced (compared to the crazy money my son and daughter pay to see stuff). Barely anyone under 40 there out of the 8000 or so people so I didn't feel too much of an old git. Walked home in 10 minutes afterwards so all good.

I think you were so ansxious of that hill that you prepared yourself by training and doing all the "side quests" that would help you beat the mountain and then at the end of it all you said "Eh, that's it?".

This is what I think was going on in your life at least, definietly motivational

A friend rang me last night, saying his wife had dropped out of a pre-booked lunch at Home (a very (very) good restaurant in Leeds) - did I want to go with him (foc)…

I (obviously) said yes (I’d been to it in a previous location twice before, and it’s (just sub) Michelin Star), and had a amazing seven course tasting lunch (with paired wines), an extra bottle of very tasty White Burgundy to drink between courses, an extra cheese course with a delicious dessert wine, then espresso with accompanying large Cognac.

Calorie loaded Saturday ate over 3000 calories. Sunday I went the gym did an hour on the cross trainer then cycled home. Later warmed up on my treadmill then went on a 9 mile bike ride. Felt like I still had energy so did 45 minutes 12 degree incline walk on my treadmill. Rested but still felt I had more gas so went on another 9 mile bike ride.. Fitbit says I burnt over 3k calories in exercise over 3.75 hours and a total days burn of over 5.5K calories. Not bad for a 54 year old overweight guy

Only you need to know your target weight so as long as you’re heading there and doing it so with the approval of your doctor then slow it down, speed it up, whatever you want. The improvements you’ve made to your life are astonishing and I’m not just talking about size. You’ve eased your cardiac load massively, any traces of diabetes would be all but eliminated, your cholesterol must have dropped through the floor, not mention your joints being more nimble. You’re an absolute inspiration.

You’ve eased your cardiac load massively, any traces of diabetes would be all but eliminated, your cholesterol must have dropped through the floor, not mention your joints being more nimble. You’re an absolute inspiration.

Cheers I appreciate your kind and wise words :-)

Appreciate it but no need to thank me. You deserve the praise for all the hard work and sacrifices you’ve put in.

Have you thought about a mobility scooter?

My late mum didn't want one, but when she did, she was glad she did.

Friday will be my dads funeral, I was going to wear a black tie, but after speaking to my sister I'm wearing a Simpson's one with "Like father, like son" on it.

I wanted to wear the watch we bought for his 70th, but it was too big for me, I went to H.Samuel were we bought it and said we bought it here an I wanted to wear it at his funeral.

The woman removed links so it would fit, and waived the charge to adjust it.

Dude111 29-08-2024 04:32

I am so sorry again for your dad Hom3r :(

Be thinking of you tomorrow David, hope the day goes as well as it possibly can, all the best

104 miles cycled in 3 days. Safe to say I am pooped now but cycling is now my fave exercise. This mornings 1st ride out was 26 miles in the pouring rain and my only regret was I wore my main gym trainers actually did not mind getting soaked so that at least means I can go out plenty over the coming months

I got a renewal quote from Admiral they quoted £976 with 30+ years no claims, upon spraying tea over my keyboard it was tweaked to to £776.

My 21 year old nephew pays £1,000

I went to Compare the Market and got it for £401.43, nearly half price.

HTF can they justify nearly £800.

Always best to shop around every 12 months, I do it online via the Topcashback site and then via Go Compare so get around £42 cash back as long as it tracks.

Very well done indeed, does any excess skin reduce too or is that something you're stuck with?

Well this is the stumbling block now mentally. 6 months ago all I could think about was losing weight now I am relatively close to losing most of my fat the loose skin is causing me massive anxiety . Very conscious of the risk of body dysphoria . I am hoping when I reach a target I have yet to decide upon I might be able to get help on the NHS for surgery as I have not had any NHS intervention for the weight loss. Only other hope would be crowd funding because it is quite and achievement

It's fabulous what you have achieved and in such a short time so try not to worry about your anxiety on this and hopefully surgery a possibility in the future if you want it.

My happy thought is I managed to sort the garden out for Autumn today, I didn't think I would be able to as rain was forecast all weekend but at 4pm it's like summer outside with a pleasant 25c so thought I would get my ass outside and sort it out while it's not too wet. The cordless mower I got this year has made the ball ache of a job a doddle.

50 year olds who use the gym as if they’re 30 years old tend to get injured easily. I could write a list of injuries I’ve accumulated but by far the worst has been my most recent - rotator cuff pain. And with that bad boy there’s no real working through as if you damage either you’re looking at around 8 months of recovery and rehab, maybe even longer at my age. Anyway I’ve managed to get past the worst of it by not working my shoulders directly and focusing on bench presses etc. Keeps the strain off of my shoulders but still cause them to ache a bit and it’s been that way for a month or two.

Until a mate of mine gave me some stupidly high strength CBD oil. Wow! The pain has gone, that stuff is magical. Slowly working my shoulders again but no more rotator cuff pain has put me in a right good mood :D

So you're just masking the injury meaning you won't give it chance to heal?

I've had trouble with my right shoulder being painful after leaning on it while weeding my patio a year ago and this rotator cuff pain thing you speak of sounds just like what I have. This limits movement of my arm behind my back and hurts when slept on, it doesn't hurt with normal use, does this sound like a Rotator cuff and should it eventually go away?

Russ 24-09-2024 22:41

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

I’m not masking the injury, I’m masking the pain. I’ve had rotator cuff trouble for about 2 months and the only treatment is rest and ice. My GP said I could carry on in the gym, just protect my shoulders and stay away from any movements that focus on the shoulder muscles (so no shoulder press, no side raises, no upright rows etc) but anything that affects the shoulders in a secondary way (such as bench pressing) are ok as long as I take my time and don’t ramp up the weight so that’s been my plan ever since.

What I’m feeling now is the residual pain from the original injury. It’s been more of a niggle than a pain really which had restricted my workouts as the niggle worries me.

But since the CBD has taken the pain away I’m back to shoulder presses, side lifts etc. slightly lower weights but in time I’ll build it back up.

Re: your pain. I’m by no means an expert, I can only go on my own experiences. But if the pain feel centred around the boney part of the top/front of your shoulder then that’s your rotator cuff. The recovery and rehab is a bitch because to get to the rotator they have to move muscles etc out of the way. It’s a horrible operation and injury. Avoid at all costs.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

No pain when pressing the top of the shoulder so I guess it maybe something else. I had the same issue with my left with reduced movement but after several months I suddenly noticed it was gone and the pain was no more and had movement back.
