Lol, Sky must laughing pretty darn hard right about now. Some bigwig in Sky has just said something along the lines of "we have saved ourselves £4 hundred million on CL rights alone, we've lost less than .30% of our customers during the closed football season and when the season restarts we will show copious amounts of boring, turgid defense minded games which teams don't want to lose. Should we still put our prices up? Course we should, because we know people will whinge and moan, but they will still pay it."

On a different note, I don't how long they have been showing it but I have just seen a BT advert with Gareth Bale and Jake Humphries on a voice over telling customers BT Sport have CL football in 2015, so be careful if you want to take out a free broadband for the next two years. :-)

The advert said that they have all the European club competitions, not just champions league.

BT have all champions league and Europa league games from 2015 , I'm sure the La Liga rights are also up for renewal but not sure who'll win them.

Being a BT BB customer I'm interested to know how much they plan to charge for BT Sports once the Champions league rights kick in , it costs £3 to take BT Sport in HD on every platform other than VM now.

Spot on. From my earlier calculation based upon Chad's research, I was surprised to see that Sky Sports has only risen by inflation since 2004.

I'm sorry but I may be new to all go this but when did this become the sky sports forum. Just coming personally don't take much thought into taking sky sports and most people on here don't have it either so is there ANY NEWS (except from "summer") on entertainment channels launching as I live in Scotland and we are ALREADY IN THE SUMMER AND school holidays??

Any news in disney hd channels yet either as media boy did seem to think June but obviously they aren't launching in June, Virgin media really have to pull there finger out as all we have had is false hope and price increases!!!

You missed the word Cup.

The advert says all the top European club Cup competitions.

Disney Channels HD was not confirmed by any insider just an old Rumour poster.

That BT Advert was first seen on STV on Saturday night in Media Boy HQ.

Web rumours say BT has got them from 2015 - but still not confirmed.

Possible price rises coming soon on Sky Sports and such matters are relevant to this thread, whether or not you personally have Sky Sports.

A full list of channels coming is on Media Boy's regular update elsewhere on this thread.

Most of the 'false hope' is actually not emanating from Virgin Media!

Until the same rights are sold to several different providers there is absolutely no chance of any real competition. The only competition is for the sports rights themselves between providers, which in turn can only mean price increases for the viewer as the bidding wars become astronomical![/QUOTE

I agree. As it stands a football fan has to subscribe to both Sky sports and BT sports if he wants to see all the live televised games regardless of cost. The only thing that keeps the cost down a little is not wanting to price themselves out of the market, and Sky are in danger of doing just that if they put their prices up as much as has been suggested.
BT scores a bit of a winner by offering free sport to its broadband customers and by being included in virgins xl package.

I think the mistake is thinking that things will remain as they are now. Sky and BT are bitter enemies at present (at least that's how some would portray it) but financial reality will come into the equation at some time in the future.

Sky and BT cannot go increasing their bids exponentially and there will come a point at which the two will have to do some sort of a deal in order to bring the price down. Competition does normally rectify anomalies although this does seem to be dragging on a bit.

I am not aware that there is anything to prevent Sky and BT presenting a joint bid for the premier league rights. If that was still higher than other bids submitted, why would this not be accepted?

Unless Disney hd channels become an additional chargeable channels we ain't gonna see them anytime soon,lg seem to be focused on acquiring channels and apps that costs can be passed onto us customers sadly :(

Seems a bit harsh, Howard!

We are apparently getting further HD channels from Sky soon, not all of which are premium subscription channels, and no doubt we will be seeing a lot more in the autumn. Not on the scale of last year, however.

Thet are upping the price by £2.50 this September. Although the 2 years free BB more than offsets that.

This is true. Say Sky put up HD charge it will still be cheaper per channel... won't help some I know.

I still think it should be made compulsory that HD has no extra charge. Its ridiculous having extra for a high definition picture. I wonder if this is the case in other countries??
