Here is an interesting one, Andy Liddell admitted after the game that he was offside when he scored against Villa.

How come we are not reading articles criticising Liddell for not telling the ref that he was offside? Where are the people calling him a cheat for not admitting it?

yes but he doesn't play for Man U... not seen all the games from the weekend yet but I read a comment from Wenger saying Stoke should have won after they Arse were given a free kick for a should barge buy Akinbuyi..

I just guess as these 2 aren't involving Man U they papers will just let me go. look at the Oldham goal that was disallowed for a push on James.. i've seen that a few times and there was nothing wrong with it.. if they had lost the match 2-1 would that have been the worst decision of all time

In fairness, it's very well to come out and say these things, but it smacks a bit of Beckham and his 'I'm clever 'cos I got myself booked' rubbish.

Andy Liddell might say that he was blatantly offside but, even after the replays, it was difficult to see that the ball came off a Sheffield United player and not one of ours, so it must have been difficult in the spur of the moment for the linesman. As for the comment about Sorenson well, that's nothing new - a goalkeeper should stop every shot.

I just think he's trying to rub salt into the wounds of the Villa fans - with a bit of luck, he'll get done for his comments (although there's no particular reason why he should).

I just think that he should engage his brain before speaking - if they play Villa again at some point in the future, he'll probably start moaning if he gets booed every time he touches the ball.

Yeah but the point I was making was that strikers who are offside and score never get criticised for "not telling the ref" even when its clear that he knows hes offside - kluivert against the pool as an example. But when a keeper did something similar he was hung up by the media as all that was wrong with cheating footballers.

I know what you're saying, but Liddell can't come out and say he was blatantly offside - there was a question about who's head the ball came off and, bearing in mind the fact that Liddell was already running to collect the flick on, he wouldn't have known one way or the other.

IMO, he won't get criticised for saying this because it was a questionable decision anyway, and he's basically just shooting his mouth off.

EDIT: More to the point, in the example of Roy Carroll, it was obvious as soon as he did it that the ball was about a yard over the line - this has been seen a blatant attempt to fool the officials (whether it was or not is a fairly moot point). Unfortunately, keepers are the players who get the most scrutinised when they make a mistake, which Carroll did (spilling the ball in the first place).

I'm not criticising Carroll for his actions (I believe that most, if not all, keepers would have done the same thing) but the difference is that Carroll denied a clear goal, whereas Liddells 'blatant offside' was a goalscoring opportunity, and I think that's the difference - none of this would have been brought up if the shot had been saved.

I know what you mean though it would be nice to see some sporting acts from these premiership footballers.. they are meant to be sportsmen after all so acting sporting isn't too much to ask..

maybe they could even stop rolling over 15 times whenever someone goes near them as well ;)

the thing is there is so much money involved now both to the clubs and the players that none of them will stamp down on it.. can you imagine Wenger impossing a 6 game ban on Pires for conning a ref during a game or Fergie doing the same with Ronaldo..

The thing that annoys me is that FIFA and UEFA don't seem to want to do anything about it.. look at what they did with Rivaldo at the world cup.. fined him about the equivalent of ÃƒÆ’Ã†â€™ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…Â¡ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£10

We're not arguing over who's best - it's a competition to see who can make the most pointless petty comments against the other team, and at the moment I'm being soundly beaten :D

Did you not see the fair play tables I posted earlier? Man Utd came 3rd last year and are currently 1st.

I'll say this - on wednesday United have got NO chance. As much as I would love to see us wipe that smug grin off Jose's face, we simply do not have enough talent in our League Cup team to take on Chelsea's 1st OR reserve team - the latter being as good as most mid-table premiership sides. Our only hope is if SAF fields a full strength team but I can't see him risking the all big boys for a trophy he doesn't take all that seriously in the first place.

He should play his first team.

Forest won the league cup, the league and the champions league with a definitive XI. In Clough's opinion (RIP) any game deserves respect, and any competition is worth winning. The amount of other trophies he won is indicative of that opinion.

re: United- any team with Rooney, Keane, Scholes, van Divelrooy, Ferdinand is woeful.
