Dual Boot .....

Can't say I had any problems with dual booting, installed to Disk 1 Partition 1 without any worries, now on start up I can choose between Vista or XP, no editing of anything required.

Although took me a minute to realise that Vista assigned different drive letters to my other partition with XP on it.

I think the key factor is simply not to install to the same physical drive as XP.

Still a few probs though, Audigy 2 won't install (tried the trick mentioned previously in this thread, didn't work for me) Scanner (Epson Perfection 1670) has no driver either. Also TV card is installed with a BDA Driver instead of a WDM, so no progs work with it!! All say no card found!

Anyone know of Tuner software that uses the BDA Driver with an Asus (Phillips) 7134 TV Card ?? (don't say Media Portal either, didn't work).

I got it downloaded, ok & installed on my slave 'D' drive, with no problems - dual boot with XP also ok.

To be fair I didn't explore much, i couldn't imagine getting my Radeon 'TV Wonder' working without a fight, or the associated dvd & VHS player, so, for me, it isn't worth the effort at this stage. :)

Just saying 'it looked nice' would be damning with faint praise, so I'll reserve judgement, for now :)

All that useless eye candy I hope that ain't gonna be all Vista is desired for.

Shades of Deja Vu... ??

Seem to remember everyone dragging XP down too when it first came out.... ( I know, tons of probs still ongoing too... !!)

Let's give Vista a chance though eh..... after all it's still a beta, and I'm happy to test it and send feedback to hopefully make a small contribution that will make it better.....

i've seen the beta on a few PC magazines as well so if you still want it might be worth looking there

hi stuart, its a shame that some people just abuse a public resource like this.
I also offer mine ftp too! but again on Stuart W terms.

anyone who mis-uses my machine and the log will go directly to ntl or the appropriate isp without thinking twice!!

I thought that at first.

But I've had a few weeks to play with it and now I can't bring myself to go back. Here's why:

1. Media Center - just brilliant and works flawlessly. Beats any of the other TV programs I've tried

2. Old programs - all my old programs and games have been made to work really well

3. Hardware support - even where a Vista driver has been unavailable I've been able to use old XP drivers without too many issues

4. User interface - the 3-d effect really does make it a better experience in my view

5. Sleep mode - so much more effective than the old Standby and faster than the old Hibernate

6. Explorer - I much prefer having my own choice of folders and links in the left pane. The icon view is better, giving an idea of what's inside the folders.

7. Search - better implemented than any of the downloadable tools - just clcik Start and search for anything

8. Start Menu - I've finally stopped using the classic Start Menu from Win95 - this Start menu actually works really well

9. Performance - takes longer to boot up and switch between users which is a pain. But with 1.5GB RAM it flies better than XP and handles multitasking way better. I can run loads of things and the system remains responsive even when at 100% CPU

So I'm saying, stick with XP if you want to, but the future isn't XP.
