nope. It just shows you have VM love to screw you over. Configuring your own dns servers is a basic router feature but VM want you to use their own dns servers therefore they arent going to give you the feature.

You honestly expect a VM router to give you the choice of using a 3rd party DNS.. Next you'll be expecting the ability to route through another ISPs cable....

If they did then they're simply giving partial control over to a 3rd party service. I'm not saying it wouldn't be great but I can see why it's not a priority or probably a future option..

Don't VM make money from adverts - iirc if you enter a bad url using their DNS instead of a proper 404 it goes to a page of theirs. They won't make it easy for people to let OpenDNs grab that revenue instead.

Considering I've had quite a few routers and never seen one without that option I think it must have been deliberately removed from the stock firmware.

Makes sense that it is removed.

Cannot do any testing right now as I am at work but really hope the new firmware fixes the shub!

It would have been removed as part of the Fixed WAN IP option which is useless for VM network as they don't do residential fixed IP's..

Maybe. I don't know and it's probably pointless speculating. It was certainly on the features wish list the VM community board asked people to raise way back in the days of the earlier firmware fixes. I think all that that round of changes produced was a few bug fixes and no additional features. They did bow to pressure for a modem mode later. R36 appears to be a bug fix only release.

IMO so long as modem mode works properly then people have the option to buy their own router with the features they want.
